If I want to play PS2 games on my PS3 I should be able to do it without worrying about wearing out the laser. Why tip-toe around your PS3 fucking babying it? It's supposed to play games, I'm just using it for its intended purpose.

How am I supposed to do that? The entire time I'm playing a PS2 game I'm going to be thinking "Ocelot would be so dissappointed in me right now". You've ruined the whole thing for me.

Just think about all the wear and tear Sony saved you early on, when decent PS3 games were few and far between... and now they save you the trouble of being tempted with playing PS2 games by removing that functionality. Sony does love us.

Wow, it feels good to be ahead
I'm almost done with level 6 (KZ2 will get me there). The road to level 7 is gonna be tough let along level 10...

Ok, finally set up a media server (actually went the easy way and got a plug-into-network drive for cheap from Fry's). I have to say, the PS3's implementation of connecting to it is much, much better than the 360's (and it also seems to play a wider variety of files).
Also upgraded my hard drive, couldn't be simpler. I'm still annoyed that a lot of games force you to install so many gigs of data and still have load times, but it makes it a bit more manageable. Now I have enough room to get MLB the Show.

Oh, trophy levels. I don't play enough PS3 games to get a lot of trophies. Most of mine are from PSN games. I think I'm at level 4? I'm not really sure, and I couldn't possibly care less.

I checked last night just out of morbid curiosity...and I'm level 6.
Trophies from: Uncharted, Warhawk, LittleBigPlanet, Flower, Prince of Persia (I think my son got those), GTA IV and Bioshock (which I need to finish).
Do I win?
...and I also couldn't possibly care less.

What network drive did you end up with? How does it work compared to attaching a USB harddrive directly to the PS3? (other than being able to keep the drive separate).

I'd like to hear a bit more about the network drive, too. It's always annoyed the heck out of me that I can't get my PS3 and laptop to work together (wireless, wired, software upgrades, step-by-step tutorials... no dice) and if this could be a work around, then consider me interested.

Anyone get the error that said something like:
"the maximum amount of power from the usb ports has been reached, please remove one device to continue"
I only had the controller plugged in, nothing else. So there is nothing to remove.

I don't understand what's with the careless attitude for Trophies, but it always seems a big factor for Achievements.
Chess, i'll bet you got an impressive amount of trophies for LBP, congrats
I read some where that the trophies not only can be displayed in Home, but also as a way to redeem prizes...
Hey, i still play games w/o trophies you know, like R&C ToD and SFII HD Remix. Do i really care about trophies? To some degree... but i have to admit, it does give me some sort of satisfaction when i get one, especially the hard ones (not to be confused with anal ones). By hard ones i mean, like clearing a garden in PJE (all seeds, not just Spectras). By anal ones like get 20x Combos in PJE (those are really for showing offs, those are the ones people shake their heads and roll their eyes)...

How are trophy levels calculated? Are bronze, silver, gold and platinum trophies worth X amount many each and when you get enough points you move to a higher level?

Sorry for the vague instruction, i'm not a big fan of streaming, i hate streamed media... i have seem my PS3 detects the media servers when my PC is on (the media player is running). But i never bother to check it actually works.

What are the required points to get to each level?
Using the Bronze = 1 point, Silver = 2 points, and Gold = 6 points scale:
Level 2: ~13 points
Level 3: 40 points
Level 4: 70 points
Level 5: 160 points
Level 6: ~267 points
Level 7: ~394 points (estimated)

awww, i love dvdtalk, my very first internet forum! but i have to be honest, the video game section is not exactly grand (particularly always involves veterans with the same interest). i'm always here, you guys know that
and i do love you guys even i'm being ignored (that's okay, i like to be me, rather than conformity). hey hey, this is not a goodbye!
