DVD Talk Ultimate Edition
I just went through and downloaded every item in the store. I wonder how much this stuff will cost when it goes live for everyone.

I'm going to guess that since Home's reputation is already shaky at best, everything will remain free for a while.

I'm trying to get everyone to change to the BR abbreviation actually
Figured it would be easy for all to know I'm from here if I send a friend request.
Related, I made the mistake of choosing "Trevor" when I created my Xbox live account. I get all kinds of 12 year olds sending me requests thinking I'm the Trevor they know.

I had my PS3 with an HDMI cable set as 1080p output and it worked fine for about a year. Took the cable out and replaced it with a regular AV cable to connect to a mini-TV and it worked great. Now I changed it back to 1080p after reconnecting the HDMI cable (same one I had before switching it) and the 1080p won't work anymore and caps out at 480p. It tests it and the 1080 looks grainy and the picture skips and then it goes back to 1080p.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

That's what wish lists are for
Just put a couple of items of various prices in a private wishlist (things that you wouldn't mind having but don't really "need/want" right now and don't really want people buying for you) and then when you have to come up w/ something to make the $25 you have some items pre-selected/handy.
Just a thought...

Both games are sold out at that price now btw. Probably for the best, I have dozens of unopened games already.

Awesome PS3 bundle right now.
PS3, Dark Knight blu-ray, Resistance 2 CE for $400
Almost tempted to return my Costco PS3 and buy this, saving almost $200.

I hope nobody is holding their breath on Netflix for the PS3. Sony says it's not in the cards right now.
Another quote from Sony: "We've concentrated most of our efforts on our download service, both rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows. Our efforts will continue to be there, because our customers want to own the content."
And how do I "own the content" on a downloadable rental exactly?

and why would we want to own crappy 720p compressed versions w/ stereo sound? If I want to own it, I buy it on Blu-ray. If I want to rent it (which I commonly do), I use Netflix - which would be very nice to use on my ps3.

I think your PS3 is confused and probably still trying to output over component. So, what you should do, if I remember correctly, is hold down the front-side power button for ten seconds or something like that. That should fully reset all the video connections. Then when you start up with the hdmi in there, it should naturally output over the hdmi and you can up it to 1080 in the video settings.
When I restarted it said it detected an HDMI cable and then asked if I wanted to use the maximum resolution... I said yes and it cycled through 1080p twice (grainy and kept flipping the picture) and it settled again on 480p. Argh

Damn Call of Duty: World at War and their usual one person online.
I also bought 3 BluRays for the price of 2 and had a $25 Amazon gift certificate, so I made out really well.
Thanx again, Chris

Exact same TV I had it on before, 46" Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U.
I had it outputting 1080 perfectly, then literally unplugged the HDMI from the PS3 (but not from the TV, it has multiple HDMIs), plugged in the AV cable and hooked it up to another TV (without moving it), changed it to AV, worked perfectly, then unplugged the AV and plugged in the HDMI and went through the setup, and it won't do 1080p.

I've been playing Persona 3 FES the past 2 days and I'm really pissed I didn't buy this earlier. I've been trying all the next gen JRPGs on the Xbox 360 and PS3 and outside of Tales of Vesperia and Valkyria Chronicles none have gotten on my buy list (most of the 360 ones are down right awful). This game blows away everything else I have tried on the next gen consoles. I also ordered my copy of Persona 4 from Amazon.
Games like this coming out on PS2 really stress how bad of an idea dropping B/C was. The PS3 is trying to find AAA exclusives and you get Person 3 and 4 coming out and unplayable on most PS3s. Persona 4 may end up one of the highest reviewed games of 2008 and Sony can't capitalize on it to sell PS3s.

First off, is there an option in the video settings to select HDMI or other cable for video (I can't remember and am at work right now)? If there is, then that's your problem.
If that doesn't work, try this. In the video settings on the XMB, while having the composite cable connected, try checking the 720p option. Turn the system off, turn the toggle switch on the back to off and turn the TV off. Unplug the composite cable, and plug in the HDMI cable to the PS3. Turn the TV on, then turn the toggle switch on the back of the PS3 on and finally turn the system on. Hopefully you get something from that. If you do, then simply go to the video settings on the XMB and turn the 1080p option on and make sure that works.
If that doesn't work, try looking at some of the options for your TV. Make sure it is set to 'Auto' for resolution and anything else that would prevent it form not allowing a 720p/1080p form being accepted.
Let us know how it goes.
