Yeah you have like 10 or 15 seconds to re-grab the shields as the next level starts. They really help keeping those bloodmounts out. Of course when I played some of the Drones just kicked them down and ran past them.

I think the two most important reminders in playing Horde are..
Always no matter what get and keep the shields from start to finish.
Never kill the last ### until everyone has reloaded ammo and weapons.
I like it when you can get the shield and basically just have the bloodmounts right on top of you. The Mauler toward the later waves can be a real pain. For a fat guy he can run pretty fast up to you before you know it.

Well WE completed Insane on coop last night and many thanks to JustinRT for putting up with my carelessness and reviving me countless times through-out the entire game. There were several areas where it got intense and left us scratching our heads but well worth it. If you haven't done coop you really need to do it.
I did underestimate a few things like..
The Wrenches...in Insane they can take you down fast and they tend to surprise you more.
The accuracy...you couldn't hardly get your head out to look let alone fire. It was like they had Automatic Sniper rifles
Will be on later and I think JustinRT will to so if anyone is up for a bit of DVD Talk Horde just look for me around 7:30-8 central

You know, it's funny seeing all the HATE for GOW2 over in the xbox.om forums.
Among the many things like lag and glitches, the GOW1 Shotty fans crying in their soup over how the Chainsaw has made "more effective" in GOW2 is hilarious.

Well we lets say...attempted...to play a few rounds in "Horde" last night. I did learn one last night I didn't know was the new update "fixed" as I guess the Devs would call a glitch using the Shield. It can be kicked down no matter what now. That's going to change some strategies.

Yeah, we weren't too successful, but it was still fun. If anyone else wants to run through Acts 2-5 on Insane (or casual while I hide in Insane mode LOL), my tag is Marc Fusion (with a space). I'd also be most appreciative if someone could pass the damn "ride in the buckets" section in Gears 1 and send me an invite once they're just out. I can't get past that section to save my life. I've even beaten RAAM on insane, but the buckets kick my ass.

It's been awhile since GOW1 but now I remember those "Buckets"...in the mine shaft. Yea...I think it was me and possibly DVD Vampire that went thru coop on insane and you're right...that level is a slight pain and even more so with coop. You've got to be dead on almost all the way thru, take them out (ceiling) a bit ahead when you can and good reloads are the key.

That's cool. I never have a problem getting into matches, but maybe this will entice even more people into multiplayer. Especially for the Combustible/Flashback Annex matches.

I loved the first one and was an elite player.
But they could not have made the multiplayer any worse. I am still holding onto mine hoping for a patch but I am still blown away that Epic dropped the ball in so many ways.

thelwig14: How did they drop the ball out of curiosity? I'd like to hear the opinion from someone who played a lot of gears 1.
I've experienced weird lag issues when 5 of us were on horde mode. It became just unplayable.

Just lots and lots of little things.
First, the multiplayer connection issues are just awful. And when you are finally in a room, Epic forced everyone to be ranked (of course you can do private, but you need a room of 10). So, after the pain of getting into a room, you play the match, and then you are kicked back out to the lobby and have to go through the same process. So for every 5 minutes of waiting to get into a room, you have a equal time of gameplay. I assume Epic was so worried about rank cheating.
The contrast is in COD, everyone stays in the room and teams are rearranged. So in Gears 1, they had basic unranked matches and you could stay in the same room for hours and you had very little idle time (once again, I know there are private rooms, but many don't have 9 Gears friends at once).
In addition, Epic is forcing gamers to play gametypes you don't want to play. I can't imagine Halo or COD forcing gamers to not be able to play team deathmatch solely or some other gametype. The best Epic allows you to do is get it down to 3 gametypes and hope you play team deathmatch.
From a playing aspect, little things like powerful guns overtaking maps, smoke grenades knocking you down, grenade tags on walls (not a bad idea, just implemented poorly), etc..
GOW 2 is a great game, but being a flagship title, these problems, which should never have surfaced in the first place, are unacceptable. And worse, they still haven't been patched.

Just isn't implemented with enough skill based thought.
They should definitely disappear when the player dies (the person who tagged it), and there should be enough time for a player to recognize and roll and avoid. In certain circumstances and depending on the map configuration, there isn't a counter to them. Gears is a strategy, counter based game whether it is realized or not. And the grenade tags should have been implemented better.
There shouldn't be cheap deaths. If you get outplayed, you get outplayed.

I wonder how GoW would be with a perk system like COD just for multiplayer...

If you notice, the nade will make that trigger sound...but there isn't enough time to react. It shouldn't be a large window, but it should give a player an opportunity to react and in a split second manner, adjust and manuever.
If you get in a super elite, non cheesy game, GOW is amazing. It is like a methodical chess game. It is very deliberate.

I think that even if you die the grenades should stay there.
I agree with you that you should have an opportunity to react.
The other alternative, and I know that you can't always see the planted grenade, is to fire at the grenade and it will explode. I've seen a lot of people doing that.

I just watch where I walk, so as not to set off the tagged grenades. I've never had a problem with the grenades, if anything they make things a little more strategic. People usually plant them in the same places, so I just fire a grenade of my own or spray the doorways with a few bullets to set them off.

My gripe is being shotgunned from distance and seeing no effect a concussion grenade or smoke grenade has on an enemy, while it affects the begeezus out of me.

But in CoD you can take perks to defend against them.

And in addition to what was already mentioned, they are different games. In many GOW cases, it is one life only.
Even though the shotgun adjustment they made (less hip accuracy) was far better, I still think the distance is off. The shotgun shouldn't be as effective as it is distance wise.
Regardless, I just want the matchmaking connection issues fixed. That should be paramount as this moment...and here it is 3 months later.

This game is what turned the tide for me and made me buy an Xbox! I've been playing it for a couple of days now and it's just so good & addictive! I'm not ready to play online as yet but I'll give that a shot too!

Re: Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread
I gotta be honest, with the exception of the Lag issues and the shotgun having a bit too much range, I think the GOW 2 complaints from "hardcore GOW1" players smack of, "Now people other than other elite players have a chance to counter me".
I'm laughing because I don't understand the Grenade complaint.
1. Why should anyone get a chance to counter stuck grenades? Have you seen how big those grenades are? You can totally see the Chain hanging from as they hang and if you miss it then isn't that just the luck of the draw?
2. The Smokes knocking one on his ass is very realistic. So why are so many complaining about these? It's just one more tool to get a kill.
3. I also heard complaints...BITCHING... about Melee/Shotty kills. They say it's a "n00b method". How is this any different than Halo's method of shooting/Melee to lower shields then shooting orvice versa to get a kill? Again, another method to get a kill.

Re: Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread
I'm sure playing with Five in Horde is causing some Lag. I played with some here and random and everytime we had Five we ended up with Lag in some part of the game or just lost connection..
The so-called "patch" has made the Horde mode well...unpredictable. The deal with the "shield" now being able to be kicked down still doesn't sit well and grenades seem to take longer to spawn and harder to find.
UPDATE....Never mind, I found the "Patch List".....
*Set grenades to respawn less frequently. When a player picks up grenades from a spawned location, a new set of grenades does not respawn until the previous grenades have been used
* Removed the ability to instantly shoot coming out of a roadie run
* An issue where bots were unable to kick over a shield that was planted backward
