I can't fathom that last part. I get OCD-like quirks, and can see playing games just to get all the achievements.

But to trudge thru a likely painful-to-finish game, and have this once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch a one minute ending to get some sort of payoff for your hard work; and choosing to not watch it?

Yeah, I prefer to play for fun rather than points, but whatever floats your boat.

The payoff was getting all the achievements. I could care less what the ending of Meet the Robinsons is.

Yeah, points based games suck.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

C'mon, you know that wasn't the point I was trying to make.

I like achievements, but I don't see them as a huge motivation to play a game I wouldn't otherwise play. I know that lots of people feel otherwise, and that's fine. I just think it's amusing how seriously some people take those achievement points.

I have that sound effect set as my mail notice on my PC.

Who said anything about a painful-to-finish game? Sometimes you just don't give two shits about the story, good game or otherwise. A couple that come to mind for me are Lost Planet and Stranglehold. I really enjoyed both games but found myself constantly skipping cut scenes. Even the ending one. I just didn't care about the stories they had to tell.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

I'm pretty split.

I'll play a shitty game just for the achievements. Just look at my gamercard, and you'll see tons of games on there that are absolute garbage. It was fun going through and getting the achievements though.

Then, I just finished Lost Odyssey (missing 1 achievement), and actually enjoyed the gameplay and whatnot, but the story got to be atrocious around the 2nd disc, and I ended up skipping most of the cutscenes from that point on.

Moving back to XBLA talk.. I'm hoping that Microsoft releases some kind of montage video at E3 this year like they've done in the past. I know there's a bunch of good stuff in the pipeline, but not much of it interests me thus far.

I could be accused of this, as I have achievements for TMNT, but I played that...because I wanted to. Go figure. Ain't no shame in my game though.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

I am very impulsive, so I end up with tons of games I might not buy under normal circumstances. Even the bad ones, once I start them, I want to see them through. And that means as close to 1000/1000 as I can get. Finishing the game itself is good, but the achievements (if done right) can help you get the most out of the your games. Monsters vs. Aliens wasn't that good, but unlocking (and listening) to the level commentaries was fun. I also probably wouldn't have tracked down the two dog tags I missed in Wolverine or went back through on hard if it wasn't for the achievements.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

A good story adds to the game if it's a good game, but I don't mind a fun game with no story. I will play a game till I get bored of it or it becomes unfun, achievements or completion status be darned. There's so many other games to play, that I'll leave the 'work' to work.
I do agree that achievements can offer a new way to enjoy the game or some additional goalsetting.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

If I could hijack this thread with an XBLA question:
I'm considering getting a game code from an ebay seller for Dishwasher : Dead Samurai and/or Elements of Destruction for $6 each. I passed on both games at 800 points but sort of liked their demos. Does anyone have an opinion on either?

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

I just spent an hour playing the trial of Blazing Birds. Stupid name, but fun gameplay. Took a few minutes to click with how to play, but LT - short LB - mid and spike, RT - long, and RB at, er, some other time.
Pretty fun, I might drop the 400 points on it.
I'm also looking at an ebay seller for Castle Crashers.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Well they said it would cost $4.99 on psn via twitter. So it should be 400pts.

According to Major Nelson CellFactor is also coming this week.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Wolfenstein 3D is 400 points.

Also coming out is CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars at 800 points.

CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars is a fast-paced first-person multiplayer shooter. Choose your side in the battle of technology versus humanity. Manipulate your environment and kill your enemies with your choice of gunfire and/or telekinetic superpowers. Use your mind to rip objects from the environment and smash them in any direction or use your powers to create a bullet-proof energy shield. Flying, teleporting, and accelerated speed give you countless ways to kill or be killed. Take on the three single-player challenge modes (one mode for each character), or battle live enemies throughout the world in one of four multiplayer modes!

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Read a review months ago in OXM. They said that CellFactor is a poor-man's UT3. Since I never evne play that, I doubt I'd want this.

Glad to hear Wolfenstein 3D is 400 points. I might have to pick that up for nostalgia, though old FPSs don't age well, IMO.
