Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

For some reason i thought the Wallace and Gromit game was supposed to be much more expensive than 10$. Did the price get reduced?

Also, how many episodes is there supposed to be?

I'm not sure on either account. I just reposted what Major Nelson did.

I'm sure Major made one of pricing mistakes again and it will really be 1200pts

This will be the first episode of the four-part adventure game, Fright of the Bumblebees.

Hrm, i really hate the idea of paying 40$ for a non-disc based game. But i love Wallace and Gromit. Hopefully Amazon will have it on sale at some point (or points cards on the cheap).

From what I read in OXM, it's really short with no replayability. I like W&G, but doubt I'll actually buy it. The wild card would be my daughter. If she really likes the demo, I might get it for her.

Sweet, Boggle!!! I freakin' love the family game night games. I haven't bought Battleship & Connect 4 yet, but I love me some Scrabble, Yahtzee, and Sorry.

Wallace & Gromit is probably correct. The PC version is $35 for all 4 episodes. So 800 points each is pretty good. I might buy this on 360 instead of PC though. As long as the console version isn't gimped like Strongbad was on Wii.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Though no one may care, I just have to post that after what seemed an infinite amount of attempts, I finally finished my last challenge on Peggle and beat the 10 random games in a row challenge.

I had gotten as close as 9 boards but never gotten on the 10th before. I actually finished the 10th board with my last remaining ball.

What is more amazing is I never had the urge to throw the control and smash my television after all those failed attempts. That really speaks for that game.

Now to move along to the "clearing every board" achievement. That one might take me the rest of the year. Gulp.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

From CAG:
Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week

Current deal:

May 17 - May 23

30% Off Marvel Ultimate Alliance Hero/Villain Pack 560/800

(following pulled from OXM July 09/#98,pg. 31)

June 8 - June 14

30% Discount Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack 560/800

June 15 - June 21

30% Discount Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage 560/800

June 22 - June 28

33% Discount Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix 800/1200 (?)

June 29 - July 5

30% Discount Fable II Knothole Island 560/800
And though it's not mentioned there, we all know that Bionic Commando will be discounted 50% to 400 points starting tomorrow.

Great deal on SSF II if you didn't already buy it. Also nice to see a discount on that Fallout 3 content. Avoid the Gears 2 DLC as the $20 compilation is coming in July

I'll probably pick up Street Fighter II at that price.

What's the source on that? It'd be great if they were announcing the deals in advance like that again.

It was from the most recent OXM, in fine print on a page in the back. I tried to find more details, but Cheapy edited the info out of the original post.

Slightly off topic:

Does anyone know if the Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage will be discounted for the PC when it is for the 360? It is downloaded through the Marketplace and paid for with Microsoft Points from the same account as my 360.

Finally played the Bionic Commando: Rearmed demo last night. I never played the original, but had a good time with it. Went ahead and bought the full version while it's on sale. Definitely had $5 worth of fun already. Highly recommended.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

Just tried Yousimin. It's surprisingly simplistic for a Square-Enix game. It's the first color-block-matching game seen in the XBLA in... ONE WHOLE WEEK! The hook is that you're trying to find corners of a rectangle instead of looking for like-colored blocks together. It's a little different feeling scanning for rectangles. Still, it's pretty much the same as all the other color matching games, and I don't imagine it's different or varied enough to warrant a purchase. Maybe if it's ever Deal of the Week, I'd pick it up then.

Tried the Wallace and Gromit demo. The interface that takes the place of a mouse cursor is pretty bad, the animation is choppy, and it just has an overall shoddy "port" feel to it. I tried the PC demo to compare, and even on my crappy 7 year old computer, it's much better. I had to drop the settings down a bit, but it was still smoother and easier to control than the XBLA version. Plus it's only $35 for the 4-episode pack, so that's a couple bucks cheaper than getting all of the episodes on XBLA. Just my two cents, but I'd go with the PC version if that's an option for you.

Does the PC version have achievements? Then the 360 version is automatically better, beyond all its flaws.

I haven't tried the game yet, and probably won't. Episodic content on XBLA ends up being a little costly and I'd rather wait for a pack deal when everythign has been released.

Bear in mind, discounted point cards, cheap ebay sellers, or an Amazon sale might also make the game cheaper on the 360.

There is no excuse for the choppy animation though.

No, but if it makes you feel better, just find a sound file of the "achievement unlocked" noise and play it periodically as you enjoy the superior PC version. You can also close your eyes and imagine that your e-penis is growing a little bit each time you hear that sound, if that helps at all.

As much as I love the team at Telltale Games, this is a poor port and seems pretty rushed.

Too bad about Wallace and Gromit, guess I'll check it out on Steam instead. Steam has their own achievement system, for those who are into that. I'm not sure if this game is included or not.

If it doesn't increase my arbitrary score, then I don't want it. I know it's stupid. I don't deny that. But Microsoft have got me hook, line, and sinker with this thing.

The only game I play I still play even though I have all the achievements is Rock Band. For some games, I've gotten the last achievement for beating the last level and just turned it off before even watching the ending.
