Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Got my $20 credit late, late on the 12th. Used it to buy Guacamelee for $11.99. Smart move. It's amazing -- one of my favorite downloadable games of this generation along with Shadow Complex ( another Metroidvania combat-puzzle platformer). The game is funny, smart and consistently entertaining. Cross save works perfectly and quickly off the cloud. Game looks amazing on both systems and the music is great. Wish there was vocal work, but besides that, I have no complaints. I especially love how co-op works here -- it allows my son to play along with me and help me out (by beating down swarms of enemies as well as acting like a "checkpoint" when I die in battle) without ever hindering my progress at all. I've never seen co-op implemented better in a platformer. It's a total winner!

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Today's Blog post is about the upcoming Playstation Plus freebie Zombie Tycoon 2

The Many Classes of Zombie Tycoon 2: Samurai, Engineers and More

+ Posted by Laurent Mercure // Frima Studio

When we announced the release of Zombie Tycoon 2 right here on PlayStation.Blog, we were purposely a bit vague about the gameplay. But, now that the game’s release is only weeks away, we’ve got nothing to hide!

Zombie Tycoon 2 is a tactical real-time strategy game in which you will lay waste to your enemies by controlling two squads of zombies, one hero-like monster, and one zombie-spawning vehicle. We use the term ‘tactical’ because the game is all about managing your units and deciding how to tackle the warzone. There are no resources to gather, no structures to build, and no tech-tree to climb. As you capture buildings, your zombie army grows, you unlock the ability to transform your zombies, your monster gains levels, and you expand your control over the battlefield.

Our biggest challenge as a developer was coming up with controls that not only work well, but feel intuitive on both PS3 and PS Vita. And guess what? Impressions so far are unanimous: we pulled it off! Your squads of zombies are linked to two of your face buttons, while the other two buttons control your monster and your spawner. All four of your monster’s active abilities are mapped on the directional pad.

Throughout the single-player campaign, you’ll learn everything there is to know about the two factions, the different zombie types, and the monster units. On one side, you’ve got Orville Tycoon and his old-school, hulking zombies, who are just about done invading Finkleville. On the other, you’ve got his former boss, Archibald Brainhov and his army of fast and frantic zombies. To say that he’s got a score to settle with his former apprentice is a monumental understatement!

There are six different types of zombies (seven, if you count the starter zombies), and four epic monsters to mess with. Each zombie type is unlocked by capturing a special building, while the monster is selected before starting a game. I’ll briefly go over each unit, to give you an idea of how your tactical skills will be put to the test.

Brawler zombies are pumped-up starter zombies. They hit harder and are much, much tougher. Every time they strike, they have a chance of stunning their target, making them perfect front line units.

Scavengers are the only zombies with the ability to attack from a distance. They can throw garbage, TV sets or sign posts at their enemies. Team them up with brawlers for a killer combo!

Engineer zombies are not battlefield material. But they are highly tactical units with the unique ability to capture buildings twice as fast as any other. These are better used when you feel that your army is at no risk of engaging the enemy in close combat.

Samurai zombies are swift and deadly. They hit a lot harder than brawler zombies but are more fragile. With the ability to charge at their victims, they are perfect for assaulting unsuspecting squads of engineers or scavengers.

Cleaner zombies can move through and neutralize chemical waste, but more importantly, they explode upon death, dealing damage to all nearby enemy units and leaving puddles of toxic goo on the ground.

The silly-looking Scout zombies are perfect for spying on your enemies. These fast-moving units skulk around unnoticed by neutral humans and structures, and when they take root they become completely invisible and regenerate health.

You can find detailed information on all four monsters on our official blog. We’re closing in on the game’s release date — April 30th. Stay tuned to our Facebook page — we might have a few codes to give away!

In the comments they mention they will be including a Platinum trophy with this game, for those who care about such things. I was surprised at how in-depth this game seems to be, especially compared to the simplistic mini that the original game was. I'm very happy to be getting this Cross-Play game for "free".

Catherine and Hitman: Absolution are hitting Plus in Europe as freebies in May. Seems like they get the best games. Don't know if that means we will ever see them though.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Europe definitely gets better games on PS Plus. But they don't get the ancillary things we get like discounts and online storage, IIRC. I hope that means we might get Catherine eventually -- I've heald off on that one intentionally.

I never mentioned here, but there might have been an accidental leak of May's PS Plus content for the US. This picture popped up during the store update yesterday.

It shows Batman Arkham City and LIMBO as part of the IGC (when they aren't as of yet). That probably means they will be free games for PS Plus soon -- especially since I own them both; that's usually a requirement for inclusion, this month excluded. No word from Sony yet, of course.

At any one time there are, I think, 12 PS3 games and maybe six Vita games offered in the IGC. Some are new, others (like inFamous 2 and LBP 2) have been there from the beginning of the IGC concept last summer.

Batman AC and Limbo were both free for European Plus members back in December I believe, so I could see those coming here.

So if I buy this from PSN I still get the cross-buy Vita version also, correct?

I was also looking at Sly Cooper : Thieves in Time, and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault. Their store listings both confirm cross-buy, but All-Stars only mentions cross-play.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

Cross-play is using the Vita for the Ps3 game. I think for ASBR, that means you can play multiplayer Vita vs. PS3. There is no cross-play for the others. I'm pretty certain there is Cross-Save for Sly, which means you can continue your game on either console.

Cross-buy for ASBR & Sly, buy the ps3 version, get Vita for free (unsure about R&C)

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

All those three games are/were Cross Buy (though R&C still isn't ready for the Vita, amazingly). Is possible they change the policy for All Stars, but I doubt it. remember it only works one way : buy the PS3 version, get the Vita one for free. Buying the Vita version doesn't get you the PS3 version.

Edit : Checking the website's game page, there is in fact no mention of a free Vita version. While I'd be very surprised if they changed that, I guess there's no way to be sure at this point. I've put the question up at CAG for you and I'll update if someone knows the answer...

edit edit : Yup, it's confirmed to still be a Cross-Buy game.

Unfortunately I bought Sleeping Dogsfor the 360 near launch for $29.99 and never even opened it. Guess my best friend gets it for a belated birthday present when I see him next month.
And I've already spent over $70 on Pinball Arcade for the PS3, but that's a different story. For those who don't already own it, it's a nice collection and there are plenty of DLC tables to pick through.

Also apparently the Blogcast mentioned a sale on my Great White Whale of a game (Catherine). I still think it might go free, but if it's $5 or maybe $10 I'll probably give in and just buy it already.

Looks like there's actually an extra freebie in May. Five games total -- four playable on the Vita. It's a good month to be a Vita owner and a PS Plus member.

Tomorrow Sleeping Dogs will be the freebie and there will be a 25% discount on Papa & Yo (yawn)
