Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I'm with Decker. I was new to R&C this gen and quickly fell in love with Tools and subsequently CiT, but Quest for Booty was very forgettable. Gimping the weapons, which is part of the draw of the franchise, really hurt the mini-game. I paid $10 (I think) last time it was on sale and felt it was overpriced.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Hmm. I guess no Quest For Booty for me. Thanks for the warning, guys.

I spent $10 a couple months ago. While I wish that I had only spent $7.49, and while I really wish it had simply been included as a prequel level on Crack in Time, I did enjoy playing it. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
How is the After Burner Climax game? I'm considering it, but then I think that instead of paying $10 for ABC, I could get Tom Clancy's Hawx for about $20 instead. That would be similar, but it would have a lot more gameplay. I realize that ABC is on rails while Hawx is not.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Update on Final Fight:
Capcom Testing New DRM With Final Fight: Double Impact April 23, 2010 - Capcom apparently isn't thrilled with PlayStation 3's ability to share game files over PlayStation Network. IGN reader nacthenud recently tried to boot up Final Fight: Double Impact on a separate account for his kids that he shared the game on. He discovered that account, which cannot connect to the Internet for security purposes, is unable to play the game. He later discovered Final Fight: Double Impact can only be played on the same account it was purchased on. nacthenud posted: Hello Capcom Admin, I do not know if this is the right place to send this, but it's the best option I've been able to find. Let me know if I should be directing these comments elsewhere. With regards to Final Fight Double Impact there seems to be a stipulation that requires authentication prior to launching the game. If I want to launch the game from the XMB on PS3, I have to be signed into PSN on the original user account that purchased the game. If my kids want to play the game on their user accounts on the same PS3 they can not, because my kids are not allowed to have online accounts. If my wife wants to play the game on her account on the same PS3, she cannot because she has her own PSN ID. Effectively, everyone in my household would have to buy their own copy of the game in order to play it on their accounts with their high scores and their save game files. Further, if I want to play the game on my own account but am not currently connected to the internet for a variety of reasons, I cannot. I know there have been a handful of other PSN games that have had this too, but those were games that were strictly online multiplayer-only games with no offline component. This is not the norm for PSN games and the first instance I've ever heard of this kind of DRM for a game that has a offline, single and local multi-player component. There is no reason to expect this to be the case with this game, yet there is no disclosure of this when you go to purchase the game at the PS Store. Was this an oversight on Capcom's part or a deliberate choice? If deliberate, do you know if this is something Capcom intends on doing with future releases? If so, I will certainly not be spending my money on these games in future. As it is, I will definitely be more hesitant to make a quick purchase on Capcom PSN titles and PSN titles in general. Capcom posted: Nacthenu, I'll try to be short. Yes, there is DRM. This was employed to combat the rampant "PSN Sharing" that has been going on over the last year. We're sorry that your family cannot play the game on their individual accounts (same console). This is a limitation of the Sony network. We are not committed to do this with all titles moving forward but the only way to evaluate impact was to try it with one title first. To be honest, you could just log in as yourself and allow them to play. I understand there is a principle here, but we would appreciate your understanding of our position while doling out your criticism. Either way, we appreciate you as a fan and I have mentioned your concern to the team. Take care and sorry for the trouble, _T nacthenud posted: Firstly, let me thank you for your quick response. While I understand that PSN game-sharing is a problem in some respects I would like to offer the following thoughts on the matter: 1) Most of my issue with this situation surrounds the fact that there was no disclosure of the DRM restrictions on the PS Store. If I had been given fair warning, I could choose to make an informed decision on whether or not to purchase the game (as you can well guess, I would choose not to). 2) This is not a "limitation of the Sony network" as evidenced by the dozens of other PSN titles I've purchased (including many Capcom titles). This was a limitation chosen by Capcom, as you indicated, to attempt to curb game-sharing. I realize it is the way the Sony network is set up if you choose this DRM option, it's an all or nothing choice, but it was a choice. 3) Choosing to use DRM such as this hurts the consumers that purchase your games. This makes us less likely to purchase Capcom products again in the future. I doubt I will ever log in to the PS Store on a Thursday (soon to be Tuesday) and download the latest Capcom game that shows up without first doing some research on the DRM employed. This experience has burned me and now I can't make purchases from a position of trust. That will basically kill all of the impulse purchases I've made in the past. 4) I would put forward the notion that employing DRM such as this doesn't increase potential sales of the title. Quite the opposite, I would imagine. There are the regular consumers like myself that will be in the situation described in point 3). But more specifically, what are the game-sharers going to do? Without these restrictions, they're going to pool their resources and buy one copy of your game. With this DRM in place they are not going to each buy a copy of your game. Rather, they will pool their resources and buy a different game instead. So Capcom loses sales to the game-sharing community as well as the regular paying customers. 5) I can certainly allow my family to play this game on my account, but I like to earn my own trophies and high scores and so do the other members of my family. We compare trophies with each other. We are prevented from doing so here, which means the amount of time we spend playing this game will be dramatically reduced. You say Capcom wanted to try this model to "evaluate impact". I trust I have communicated the exceedingly negative impact Capcom has made on this consumer. Regards, Nac IGN has reached out to Capcom for additional comments but hasn't heard back. We can confirm that the game doesn't play on an offline PS3. Update: The game only requires one initial check at at start-up. Once the game has load Update 2: Capcom has issued a response saying the DRM notification was not included in the North American and Asia versions of Final Fight: Double Impact and that a fix will soon be implemented. Capcom would like to formally apologize for the issues consumers are having with the PS3 version of Final Fight: Double Impact. Typically, the notification for a required PlayStation Network connection appears in the full game description when a game is downloaded from the PlayStation Store. Unfortunately when populating this content this detail was overlooked and wasn't included in the versions of the game that released in North America and Asia. It was included in the release for Europe. Capcom should have checked to make sure the notification was included when the final game was made available and we sincerely apologize for this oversight. The DRM requirements for Final Fight: Double Impact are not unique to this release. This protection mechanism has been implemented in numerous games offered on the PlayStation Store before. When it was brought to our attention that the notification was missing, we acted quickly with Sony Computer Entertainment America and a fix is on the Way. We would like to thank our vigilant fans for bringing this to our attention and we will exercise better scrutiny on future Capcom releases. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I hope they get reamed by this terrible DRM policy. I understand that they're not happy about the Gamesharing, but this is not the way to combat it. I hope they've learned their lesson after this one (like, I presume, Ubisoft did with Assassin's Creed 2), but I guess we'll see soon enough.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
If they have a problem with gamesharing then they should take it up with Tretton who went on record saying that you were allowed to share it on up to 5 ps3's. Sony said "We are not about making money every step of the way." Apparently Capcom does not feel that way (which is fine, they are a business and they want to make money. I understand this). They shouldn't hurt the fans of their games because they have a problem with something that Sony has said themselves. I will just not buy any more games that use this DRM on it from the playstation network, no matter how much I want them.
The way to vote for DRM has been, and always will be to do it with your wallet. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I don't know why they ever supported it. I think the original intention was that you could have the game on multiple consoles in the same house, or perhaps different locations under your control. Or, if your console was to die, you might have an extra slot. I think they just accepted it as an inevitable side-effect of that scheme. They knew you could take advantage of it, so they decided to come out and say it was okay. Maybe they thought it would be controlled to some degree, assuming that most people wouldn't be handing out their account info to others.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
The only content that I have that has strict DRM is Singstar songs and it is a pain in the ass to get it back as I have had to do it twice with two systems getting struck down with the YLOD. This one system/user stuff is nonsense. If they're going to do it that way then they need to figure out how to link it to a specific console but allow the different users on that console use the content.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
It's the sale most of you folks were waiting for : PixelJunk Week of the Spring Sale!
April 29nd - May 4 PixelJunk 3-in-1 Pack (PS3) (Bundle of Racers, Eden & Monsters) - $9.99 (regular price $19.99) PixelJunk Racers (PS3) - $4.99 (regular price $6.99) PixelJunk Eden (PS3) - $4.99 (regular price $9.99) PixelJunk Monsters (PS3) - $4.99 (regular price $9.99) PixelJunk Shooter (PS3) - $4.99 (regular price $9.99) Man I wish I had waited on PJ Shooter. It's a good game, but it's not that great and I would have preferred to pick it up at $5, but I got impatient. Nothing for me I guess as I already have all the rest except PJ Racers and I don't think that demo impressed me much. I might go ahead and check it out again just to be sure. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
That 3-in-1 is a crazy good deal. anyone who hasn't picked up these yet has no reason not to anymore.
And I agree, I wish I had waited on Shooter for the $5 price point. But I'm more than happy to support PJ day one. I also wish I had waited for the PSP version of PJM to drop to $10, but again, happy to support them. Will pick up PJ Racers. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
bah, I already have shooter and eden. I guess I can pick up the other 2 for the same price. Wish i would have been able to get the 3 pack lol.
i got shooter for 5 bucks like a month ago and just started it 2 nights ago. It is an amazing game I must say. The water/lava physics and such are pretty amazing. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Ha! You guys doubted me a month ago when I said I was going to wait on PixelJunk Shooter to go on sale when I nabbed Shatter/Flock instead. :P Guess what I'm buying this weekend?
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
In for Monsters!
Now the only thing I'm waiting for is Super Stardust. How has that never been on sale??? |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Shooter is an easy recommend at $5. It's a great game, but it's really short.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Oh yeah, still need to buy shooter. $5 is a done deal.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Anyone try the KICK-ASS game that was released on PSN?
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Shooter is a great game for $5 and was worth it at $10 IMO.
