Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I'm going to pick up at least
Echochrome Cuboid Digger HD Magic Orbz |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I got Cuboid and Magic Orbz.
BTW, why in the hell can't these games be pre-patched? I thought an advantage of digital distribution would be that you just get the latest version when you download a game. The update for Magic Orbz is bigger than the game, so I guess it added something substantial like some of the Burnout Paradise updates. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I already owned Magic Orbz (fun game), but I picked up Cuboid and Smash Cars (since I liked the demo). I also tried the demos for Digger HD and Mushroom Wars and wasn't too impressed with them.

Do you like Smash Cars? I thought the demo was okay, but the reviews complained about a lack of content and being overpriced. At half-off, it might be worth it, I guess (especially compared to Mad Tracks currently on sale on XBLA).

Thanks. Please do.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Like many, I never played this since it came out on the PS1 when the PS2 was already out and taking up a bulk of my free time. Will definitely be checking it out now.
Final Fantasy IX Confirmed for PSN Japan gets PlayStation's final numbered FF. by Anoop Gantayat April 2, 2010 - In Japan today, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy IX will be released as a PlayStation Network download. With the previously released FFVII and FFVIII, PS3 and PSP owners will have access to the original PlayStation's trio of numbered FF games. The announcement wasn't made via press release, or even via Square Enix's official site. Actually, the announcement came from Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada in a brief video message posted to the Square Enix Members Twitter account. In the six second video clip, shot using a cell phone, Wada simply said that the game would be released as a download title. Release information -- hopefully for North America as well as Japan -- will presumably come with a more formal announcement. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Worst FF I've played. But I'm glad for fans of the game :).

I thought FF8 was the worst FF I played, the Junction system suck big time. This was the only FF game I have never finish and I probably won't be bother playing it at all. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I liked the junction system in FF8 so different tastes :). Never played the NES FFs nor the remakes.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Sweet. I love Final Fantasy IX. It helped was out the taste of crap Final Fantasy VIII left in my mouth.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
FFIX is more of a throwback to the roots of the series. If you never played any FF before VII, and that's your idea of what a FF game should be, then I can see why you wouldn't appreciate IX as much. As someone who has played every game in the series though, IX is tons of fun.
Still I wouldn't buy it (or any PS1 FF game) off of PSN, as I still have the discs, and if I really want to play it on my PSP, I can remote play (I don't really game outside of my home, so lag is not really an issue). |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I finally got around to trying the Mushroom Wars demo and really ended up enjoying it (I'm a sucker of RTS-For-Dummies type games. Well worth $5 in my book, based on my demo time. Still waiting on Uncle Gramps' Smash Cars impressions.
BTW : Tried out Digger HD demo -- not feeling that game at all. I'll take Dig Dug's spot on controls and fun gameplay over Digger's fancier graphics any day. Oh, and played Cuboid for about an hour and now my brain hurts. Cool puzzle game but can really be frustrating if you can't figure out level after a while. They should have had an option to skip a level. There seems to be a lot of DLC level packs, so that has me a little worried that the stand-alone game might be a little skimpy in content (though based on my current Cuboid puzzle solving pace, that shouldn't be a concern for me until 2023). |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Well, I've played a little more of Smash Cars. While I personally feel like I've gotten $7.50 worth of entertainment out of it, it's probably worth skipping unless you really enjoyed the demo. The slo-mo trick/flip mechanic is the big hook, and it's fun, but other than that it's pretty by-the-numbers.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
The Smash Cars demo did absolutely nothing for me.
Mushroom Wars I enjoyed, but it almost felt like a computer flash game. I'd play it on Facebook, but as for sitting down at my tv to play, especially with options like PJM, I just don't think I'd do so. I am interested in opinions on Magic Orbz, Mahjong Tales, and if there are any other opinions on Cuboid. Someone said this word on some other site, and I can't get it out of my head, but they said that these games had a certain element of "shovelware" to them. Can't get that out of my head. Also, I should probably ask this in the Uncharted thread, but has anyone checked out the Eye of Indra stuff? Worth $2.49? |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I like Magic Orbz and Cuboid, but be aware that they games that... I don't know the word for it, but they entice you to buy more content. In Magic Orbz, there are two big sections of levels that come with the core game, but then there are two more sections (with new trophies) sold as add-ons for $3 each. There's even a spot for another section that isn't out yet. It's like how some demos have a full menu but you can't access some of the selections. With Cuboid, you have to buy the "professional" levels and the level creator separately.
Frankly, I would avoid Mahjong Tales because it's the kind of game that's meant to be played with a mouse. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
The word is "microtransactions" and I friggin' HATE them. Still, I'm really impressed with the simplicity of the puzzles in Cuboid. They're frustrating but fun and it seems like the stand-alone game has a lot of content (though I guess it's hard to tell until you get to the end).
Oh, and if you'd like a free, less pretty, Flash version of Cuboid, right down to some of the identical puzzles, here you go. I haven't tried Magic Orbz yet (well, I did just for a minute), but in answer to my earlier question, the game was originally called Magic Ball and it still is when you buy it and download it; that's how the game file appears in the XMB. After you try to play it the first time it forces a 250 MB (i.e. 30 minute) download update that changes the name of the game to Magic Orbz. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Yeah, and that big update is for the extra levels you may or may not buy.
I had heard of microtransactions, but I thought they were things like cheat codes or weapons rather than expansions. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
This week's Spring Fever deal is pretty hard to pass up : WipEout HD for $9.99 (50% off). It's an AMAZING futuristic racer (with a demo even). Well worth $20; a sin if you don't buy it at $10.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
It's a good deal, but the add-on remains at $10. It's still a savings though, as the bundle is regularly priced at $25. This sale also makes it much easier to get the core game and see if you want the DLC at all, since you would be tempted to just get the bundle to begin with to save money.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I tried the Wipeout demo on two separate occasions and couldn't get into it. The controls just don't feel very responsive. I tried it the second time because of the raves, assuming I had missed something, but I guess it's just not for me.
