Re: Official PSN Games Thread
So there should be 10 total Star Wars tables? I have the Boba Fett, Empire and Clone Wars pack. So that leaves the Balance of the Force and Heroes packs?
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Well that was the case but to be accurate, as of today there are eleven.

I have most of these already. Hohokum is pretty cool though I wish I had waited for it to go free. :) The upgraded Guacamelee is pretty good, got that one for free on XO months ago. Doubt the PS3 progress transfers to the PS4, but might check that out. Unfinished Swan is arty and at least different (but pretty short) Five games on the PS4 this month for free. Makes Xbox look a little chintzy for making banners about giving away both a good game (Child of Light) and a crappy pool game for the XO in April as a one-time benevolence celebration. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Five PS4 games, so that's good, but it's an awfully quirky arty indie kind of month isn't it?
After watching some video reviews... Guacamelee: Really happy to have it on PS4, where I'm more likely to finely finish it. I was a little worried that it would never be on PS+ since it was already on Games with Gold. Very happy to be wrong!   Ether One: Looks like an interesting puzzle adventure game. I remember seeing previews for it, and the premise seemed worthwhile. I'm absolutely in to try it out. The Unfinished Swan: The one I'm most interested in. Seems very much in the vein of Flower and Journey. Race the Sun: Endless runner with great visual design. I'm in. Hohokum: Always looked very cool...almost like something from the Pixeljunk series. Murasaki Baby: The only non-PS4 game, and it looks charming, but they mostly lost me at touch controls. :( |

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Disagree!!! Guacamelee is awesome, and I found the platforming to be tough but fair.
I'm not sure how close I was to the end though. Beat that Jaguar guy before my hands could no longer function from holding the Vita for so long! |

Oh, and the jumping puzzle required to get to that fight was completely unforgivable. That said ... if there's an easy mode maybe I'll give it a try (I don't remember if the PC had difficulty settings). |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I got to a part where I had to roll through a barrier and jump onto a moving platform and after a couple of hours I gave up.

Also, the metascores for May's games are pretty solid IMO. Three of them (Guac, Swan and Ether) are in the 80s. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I don't know, I think the mix of AAA and indie has been real good lately. Plus, I like that they do include indie type games as it allows me a chance to play some good games that I wouldn't spend my money on otherwise. I would/did not buy Rogue Legacy and Steamworld Dig and those, for me, turned out to be really fun games.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...rth_America%29 The first 2 years were not AAA games, mostly ports of old games and some indies. After that, it looks like about once a quarter an AAA game would pop up. Keep in mind that was almost 6 years after the PS3 was released. I wouldn't expect a super-awesome still-$60-retail game given out every month or two, especially for the PS4. I would expect the PS3 selection to continue giving AAA games every few months, while the PS4 will be mostly indie games for the most part. |

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Besides, at least we aren't getting Volgarr the Viking. ;)
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
The actual answer is simple: money. Sony and Microsoft have to pay for the games they end up giving away. As I recall, it's a negotiated rate, generally a fraction of full retail. But a fraction of a $20 indie game is cheaper than a fraction of a $60 AAA game.
There are other perks thrown in of course, advertising and whatnot. But the main reason is always money, and how much the console makers have to pay out to the publishers. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
The thing that's surprised me is that they haven't leveraged PS+/Gold more in the AAA space for relatively recent games with high DLC attach rates.
As an example, they could offer something like BF4, CoD Ghosts, Killzone or even Destiny for free on PS+, and the publishers would likely benefit greatly from DLC sales. To me, that makes a lot more sense (from a business standpoint) than giving away something like Knack, AC or Ryse which AFAIK don't sell a ton of DLC. The closest thing I can think of in the current gen is Infamous First Light, which probably sold a few copies of Second Son. Edit: I bet Resogun sold some DLC. I bought the shit out of Resogun DLC! |
