Beta goodness is back on with Fat Princess.

Check out USA Today for a beta code giveaway. Unfortunately, you have to register with their site so get your spam accounts on the ready. You also have to provide your PSN ID.

I'm downloading the beta now!

Very strict terms and conditions by the way. Doesn't look like these will be easy to hand out if it wasn't directly sent to you. I think IGN is handing out some more and perhaps a few other places will be.

Man, I wish I had been paying attention to sign up for the beta. I've been anxiously awaiting a chance to play this.

Have you started playing yet? Was wondering what your general impressions were so far or for anyone else that might have gotten in?

Also, I can't remember if you're on my friends list or not, but if you want to send me an invite to shove some cake down a skinny girl's mouth I'd be down. Or if you want to play Fat Princess with me, look for me online: tlwizard81.

Fat Princess is at the very top of my "wish list". Can't wait for this one. I'd love to hear any impressions of this game.

I've been trying to score an extra beta code to hand out here, but I have been unsuccessful.

As for impressions, it's a little hard to say right now just because it's in beta and there are some pretty big glitches that need to get kinked out. There's a bunch of ingame stuff, as well as some major server lag that I'm sure will get worked out. So to complain about that stuff would be pointless. And who knows what will be changed or fixed for the final release.

It is fun. I think. I've been enjoying it but my concern is that many games are going to end in stalemate. This is a game that demands team work and cooperation, and if you don't have that, then you hope the other team is dumb. Dumb like AI.

It is exciting when both teams go back and forth with rescuing princesses and recapturing them. But that can only last so long. As of right now, there's not a time limit like in Warhawk, so there could potentially be a never ending game.

One of my biggest disappointments with it, is that each class or structure can only be upgraded once. You have 5 classes. So pretty much as long as your workers do their jobs up front, both teams will always be evenly matched. Which to me means, why have upgrades at all. I'd be a lot happier if each class had multiple upgrades with escalating resource requirements so that you actually had to strategize.

I've typically played the worker because the goal is clear. When I've played the fighter class, you basically descend into battle and hope that you come out alive (that is if everyone is meeting in the middle and fighting... if you're chasing after a lone person it's much clearer what you're doing). And I think that's actually pretty "realistic" in terms of fighting this way (thinking back on the chaos of something like Braveheart) but I never got the feeling of accomplishment. However, with the Priest class and the mage class, since you're a bit outside the fray it's a little easier to feel like you're doing something productive. (There's also a Deathmatch available, but the idea of going out simply to fight based on the system at hand is not appealing to me.)

Each map has shortcuts and secrets and it's fun finding those and exploiting them. However, the moment everyone knows about them, the jig is up. Unless the other team is not playing wisely. Granted we've only seen one map in the beta and it's a mirrored map (so the left side of the map is exactly like the right side) but perhaps with additional maps if there are different layouts this would require true strategy.

Do I even need to talk about the visual style? It's fantastic. Music's great. Sound effects are great. Controls feel very natural.

Oh, and it's pretty bloody. That can be turned off apparently, although when I tried to do that nothing changed.

I'm so thankful that it has a single player version. Maybe it'll even have a campaign. But the single player version needs difficulty settings because as of right now and the one map we have, it's pretty easy to win.

My assumption is that the game is gonna be $10. My gf thinks it's definitely worth $15 (and it wouldn't surprise me if it cost that much). I'm glad I got this chance to play it because it sated my curiosity and it no longer has to be a necessary day 1 download for me. I probably still will download it because the best time with it is going to be while everyone is playing it. Actually, I take that back. I will definitely download it day 1. This sorta reminds me of PJM in that the basis of the game (CTF for FP, or TD for PJM) isn't groundbreaking, but the artistry, creativity, gameplay and design all are. The team behind this have clearly put a lot of energy, time, love and thought into this and those are the kind of creative projects that should get rewarded. (And I think do get rewarded on the PSN).

So in a nutshell, great. Biggest complaint is the limited upgradeability and that I feel that will ultimately lead to massive stalemates. Or it will lead to everyone going out to fight and the fighting is just sorta chaotic and hard to figure out what's going on.

And again. This is only based on a beta and one map and one mode of play.

If I think of anything else, I'll post.

Thanks. That's way more detailed than I expected, but I certainly appreciate your input. Sounds like they have some work left to do.

Sorry. I'm procrastinating the real writing work I have to do today, so all that energy was focused into a post.

I should've just said... it'll be worth getting!

There's pretty convincing evidence MvC2 is coming to XBLA/PSN (e.g. Achievement list for Xbox)

I'd be down for that if Capcom didn't charge $15 for it...which they will. If they do some HD work on it, I'd understand the extra $, but if it's a direct port, I'm looking for $10.

I couldn't play on-line, so yeah, played the single player mode. I find it hard to play the single player mode, since the AI is not really working together as it should. However, it's a cleverly developed game, simple strategies and cute upgrades. I think red and blue is fine, i have no problem figuring out which one is me. It's a fun game for at least 8 players and up. It's can be quite chaotic in 16 vs 16 mode. I believe $10 is the price to go ($15 is asking too much, especially it's developed toward multiplayers).

Please let it be a HD remix or something, not a direct port... I rather spend $5 more for upgraded drawings.

I think you're more likely to get a straight port for $15.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

^ damn... $15 straight port, no deal, but yeah it does beat $60+ secondary market.

I still have the Dreamcast version, but i need a good VGA box (you know one of those thing allow you connect older electronic devices to LCD monitors w/o AV inputs, like those computer monitors).

Hey, if anybody know some good VGA boxes, let me know, thanks in advance.

Not yet, but I'm thinking about it. One thing I do like about XBL over PSN is the fact everything has a demo version available. $10 is a lot to spend on a blind buy IMHO...

Re: Official PSN Games Thread

wow, that's a pretty cool VGA adapter for the Dreamcast. The only drawback is that it can't hook up anything else, like the PS2. I did a search, the one selling from Amazon's market got bad reviews...

Definitely OT, i might start a new thread, thanks!
