Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
There are exceptions where one will look better than the other, but it has nothing to do with 720p vs. 1080p.
Sony's policy is to not list a game as 1080p unless it's native 1080p, which is good policy, but apparently bad marketing.

And of course games look beautiful in 720P. Uncharted 2 looks just amazing, Batman looked really great, COD4, Gears of War 2, Ratchet, etc., etc.

Shit, I was about to restart my 360 at that point. I borrowed it over the weekend, started playing Monday, beaten Tuesday. Challenge mode is cracklike.

Question on the challenge maps:
(Using a spoiler tag just in case)
I've six ways from Saturday but just can't hit those targets. Thanks.

Way late to the party (especially since I started this thread) but I'm around the part where i'm going after Ivy and I have to say so far i'm not on the GOTY bandwagon for this game that everyone else seems to be. So much of the charm is because of the novelty of being Batman and seeing the villains, and just the flat out cool character design and atmosphere that it seems like it overshadows a lot of the gameplay being just ok and not particularly great. So far, i'd say the game is just very good but not great.
The detective mode being heavily used way too much is my biggest complaint, and I think they went a little overboard having too much Riddler challenges around Arkham. Tracking nicotine or handprints everywhere is a bit ridiculous too. I enjoyed the first Scarecrow stage, but going back to it 2 more times was a bit much, even though they did some cool set up for it. I guess it's a way to mix up the gameplay a bit, but too gimmicky for me.
Oddly enough, I don't have any issues with the fighting. I think the key is to just take your time with each button press, rather then trying to mash X over and over until you need to counter when it's already too late.
Looking forward to finishing it up though and seeing a sequel. I'm glad I waited a bit for it to be cheaper during Black Friday.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
finally finished the game.
i enjoyed it a lot. while it does seem repetitive and button mashing, i realized at some point that i want to nail combos and not just keep pressing buttons.
i agree with fumanstan that the novelty of being batman and using "detective" work really added to the game. the atmosphere really was great, and i was totally immersed in the universe.
i do hope detective mode won't be as readily available in the sequel. look forward to it and beating AA again (on hard, this time.
)
and the ending and final boss fight sucked.

The hand-to-hand fighting engine is, in my opinion, nearly perfect. It manages to be uncomplicated, while still offering a lot of depth for you to master if you want to reap the rewards. The same can be said for the predator tactics, if you ask me.
My only complaints with the gameplay itself are the repetitive nature of the Titan-fueled bosses, the final boss battle, and the lack of limitation on detective mode.

GOTY Edition in 3D? http://ps3.ign.com/articles/107/1077863p1.html
Well, sorta... http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/12/d...-we-get-a-goo/
I hope this doesn't become the 3D standard for gaming.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
I got this game last Friday. Completed it by Saturday. Great game but i see a big problem with many new games these days....they are just far too easy. I had the same thing with Uncharted the week before. Completed it within a day. I have only done a few of the challenges but even they seem a tad easy. The design in this game is great and i loved the fighting system. It worked really nicely and every battle felt unique. I am very interested to see what they could do with a sequel to this.

You could always play your games on a harder difficulty.

Or not be hellbent on rushing through them? I think I got two weeks of enjoyment out of AA.
I personally don't want games to be too hard. Too hard=not fun. I'm looking at you, Bioshock 2.

There's a fine line between challenging and frustrating. Mostly I just want to see everything in the game, go thru the story, etc. A perfect game is 8-10 hrs imo.
I'm about a yr behind on my games so I haven't gotten to this one yet.

I widen that to 8 - 12 hours but I more or less agree, all the bitching about "The game is too short!" don't really apply to me ... especially when most of the longer games require grinding and/or rely on repetitive missions.

Plus the extra bits (Riddler challenges) were actually fun and added to the game. Unlike most games where you're just given a treasure hidden high in the air.
