This is a good and interesting read on the history of the XBox 360's failure rates. A lot of inside info on low yields and what not.

(Side note: This is the first time I have ever dealt with the coffin box, etc. What exactly do I need to do, as I noticed they said something about removing the hard drive. Thanks.)

Also, as I stated. They are NO longer doing a coffin. Basically, you box it up yourself, apply the pre-paid label, and drop off at a UPS Store. Good to go. Hopefully they are fast. I better get a nice looking Elite with no scratches or i will bitch.

I think the only thing about it that's "one use" is that the hard drives you transfer from/to get marked by the software, preventing you from performing a 2nd transfer.

Maybe that's what I read and got confused with?

Rumor patrol:

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/09...ce-media-blit/

According to forum poster Dodece over on VG Chartz.com, Microsoft will hold their five hour long New Xbox Experience re-launching event on September 25th beginning at 7:00PM eastern and unleash an all out media blitz. Rumored to be announced during the event is news regarding free Halo 3 DLC, new Mass Effect DLC, the first of two chunks of GTAIV DLC and info regarding Portal. Also, during the event, six Xbox Originals will be released for free. There is also mention that MS will announce a Sirius Satellite Radio partnership, a new music download service and something called "Mad Lib" of which isn't explained. As if that wasn't enough, Microsoft will be announcing twelve new game titles exclusive to the 360, all of which are codenamed, but the rumor source confirms Assassins Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, a new Conker title, a new Rare shooter and two new Halo games are in the mix. Phew!

Wow, that's a lot of announcements.

I wonder what the partership with Sirius will be. It would be nice if you can stream radio channels while playing. Of course, I have XM, but still, for others it could be nice.

Free Xbox Originals sounds good. Charging 1200 points for them never made sense to me; at least in their non-enhanced states. I have absolutely no DL space -- I'll have to attempt to DL them, then immediately delete them so they show on my history until I buy me a bigger HD.

Yeah, i'd have no space for free XBox Originals. I still have Ninja Gaiden taking up all the space.

Hopefully new Mass Effect content will be worth while.

For those of you without 120gig hard-drives (of which I only have 30 left), can't you download the free games now. Delete them, and then go back thru and re-download them later (when/if you have room). Every other item I've ever down-loaded (even free) I've been able to go back months later and re-download.

Yes but take it from someone who has a 20 it's annoying, and if you have a bandwidth cap you don't want to do that too often

I don't think the new fall update is until November.

And doesn't the fine print say "You may redownload this as long as it is available". I know they're purging "poor" titles but leaving them in the background, but that might not last forever.

I really don't expect them to release any original xbox game for free.

My 360 was out on delivery to the repair center yesterday morning.

So now my wait is how long it will take them to ship it to me, how slow the shipping will be, and whether they will require a signature.

edit: Tracking just showed it was delivered to them at 4:30 yesterday. Is there a place online to track their processing of the thing to get an estimate on when they will mail it out to me?

Just got my (new) 360 back from Microsoft. Only took 9 business days from me sending it out. Now I begin the long process of redownloading everything so I don't have to be online to play DLC stuff. Thank god for the "Download History" screen.

This is what I'll do too, if possible. But I'm pretty sure you don't need to complete the download, just initiate it. Then kill the active download and clean up the incomplete download on the hdd. You just need the license

Still, I find this hard to believe. I can see the relaunch and the update on 9/25 or 9/26, but not 6 free games for everyone.

I thought this could be fixed online with the web based DRM tool.

The DRM tool fixes all of the licenses, but you still have to redownload the item to "re-tie" it to your system.

If the content is already on your HDD, then it shouldn't take more than 2 seconds to "re-download" the item, regardless of the size. Those two seconds just add up when you've got quite a bit of DLC or XBLA stuff to go through.

I looked online and it said that I needed to redownload, unless I just misread it.

Well that's good news. I just want to play some Rock Band again (and can't wait for RB2)! My history said something like 147 files. It shouldn't take too long.

I can imagine this will be a bigger problem when people that have 500 songs by the end of the year for rock band and decide they want the larger hard drive.

That news about the 360 is so much better than any "news" we got at E3. Sequels to two of my favorite games, a Rare shooter, and news on the DLC for GTA IV...awesome.
