Hit your local Blockbuster and see if they will let you grab some 1-month cards out of GTAIV rentals

Other than 40gb, are there any important hardware differences between the 60gb model over the discontinued (but still available) 20gb model?

I don't think so. Just make sure you get one with a recent manufacture date so you get HDMI. That's the only difference I'm aware of.

There's chatter about the Jasper chip in 360's, but i'm not sure what the differences are or if that's included in new models.

These people and the different chips. The people who are concerned about these chips will never buy one because there will always be a new chip coming out.

Well, my 360 Elite (w/Falcon chip) just died last night. RROD. Microsoft is no longer sending boxes, they just e-mail a prepaid return label. I have it boxed up and ready to ship today.

Still shipping UPS Ground. This is basically the 4th or 5th time I've had to ship a 360 back (first for the ELITE).

This is my second time. You have the option, btw, of them sending you a coffin if you call the 800 number. They said that it is quicker to print the label and box it yourself so that is what i did.

The UPS store i dropped it off in my little town said they get about 3 returns on 360s a day.

Yeah, I already have mine boxed up and ready to return today. I called around 11:30 PM and I received the shipping labels I think at like 1:00am. Much shorter than the 12-24 hours they requested.

The phone tech guy was a complete ass though. I thought he told me to hold on at the end and then starting saying stuff in the background to his coworkers...sounded rude. Then he got back on and was like..."Um, Oh, Um, We are done here"

Maybe these people want, what they hope, is the least problematic chipset. I had four 360's in less than a year before I got rid of it. I'm certain no one else wants to deal with that.

Some quick dumb questions...I was looking at replacing my 20gb with an Elite and had some questions regarding transfer the content, games, saves, gamer pix, etc.

I was reading on xbox.com about the licensing transfer and just want to wrap my head around all of it and make sure I understand it all.

Correct me if I am wrong: Looks like the only way to transfer your games saves and music is to use the transfer cable. The transfer cable also moves your downloaded content but you still have to do the license transfer. If you don't care about the non-downloaded stuff (games saves, burned music) you can just transfer the licenses and redownload all your old DLC (games, pix, themes, etc.) that you paid for.

If I want to keep my old saves is there are other way to do this other than the transfer cable. The music isn't much and I can re-burn them on the new hard drive but I don't want to lose my saves.

If I have to have a transfer kit, how long does it take to get them from MS? I saw the form but you have to have the serial # of the new console before you can send it in and I don't want to wait months on a transfer cable to sell my old 360.

Any other things I should know about?

Thanks!

You could use a memory card to transfer games saves and your profile.

Can you use any memory card or does it have to be an MS one? Do places like Gamestop sell the transfer kit?

You have to use the MS memory cards.

It only takes a few days to get the transfer cable if you fax it in.

Make sure your game saves support memory card transfer.

So I picked up a 360 the other day with the price drop and have a question concerning the a/v setup. For some reason, I can't get the included component/av cable to work. I plugged in the 3 banded cables on the appropriate spots and then the red/white audio cables below, leaving the banded yellow cable unconnected. I tried it on both sets of component plugs and neither will get any picture or sound. I also tried with the switch on both the HDTV and TV setting. I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I figured this is pretty simple so I'm rather baffled why it isn't working.

I also tried HDMI, but since my TV requires DVI I need both the HDMI (to DVI for video) and the A/V (sound) plugged in. But the jack on the 360 end for the included A/V is gargantuan and covers both slots. Is there a separate A/V cable available?

Do this http://www.chadledford.com/?p=50 to clear up some space. Worked for me.

I know these are really obvious questions, but what kind of TV do you have? If it's HD, make sure the switch on the cable is set to HD. Are you selecting the correct input on the TV?

It's a Panasonic HDTV. Here's a diagram of the back connections: pic link

The yellow circle is the component cable connections,I've been trying to use. The red circle are the connections I use for the PS3. I tried the standard (y/r/w) connections and they work fine. I also tried it with the switch on the cable in both the HDTV and TV setting just to make sure. I also flipped through all the input channels as well.

So this just removes the plastic casing?

Michael, thank you very much for bringing this up. Microsoft also sent me 2 kits, one that I used successfully and the other unopened. I just sold the unopened one for $39 + $12 shipping to someone in Brazil. I cannot believe that I got that much for it. Do people in other countries not have the option of getting these kits?

A question though, can I sell the one that I used? Didn't I read here that it is a one use kit or was I mistaken?

Thanx once again, Chris

No sweat.

I don't see how it could be a one use kit. There's a cable and a DVD. Neither can store anything in memory. Sell away.

My 360 just died. Literally, a few minutes ago. It had been freezing up while playing Castle Crashers (a total of four times), and, upon attempting to restart it... RRoD.

I have had the console for roughly a year, and it hits now. RB2, GH:WT... It is a sad day for myself.

(Side note: This is the first time I have ever dealt with the coffin box, etc. What exactly do I need to do, as I noticed they said something about removing the hard drive. Thanks.)

Return times seem to be quick these days, so I wouldn't worry about missing a lot of game time.

They just tell you to remove the hard drive. And send the system. Nothing special.
