Finally. After molesting countless thumbs and ruining everybody's Pac-Man CE scores, the Xbox 360 controller's dismal d-pad looks to be replaced by, well, a functional d-pad. IGN's Martin Robinson claims to have played with a redesigned controller at Leipzig's Games Convention, describing it as "aesthetically identical" to the original, with "the d-pad sitting in a larger rocker and proving more tactile." The new controller is expected to debut alongside Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and is thought to have been prompted by the upcoming release of Street Fighter IV.

No sooner had we ecstatically bid the old d-pad adieu than Microsoft advised that its tweaked Xbox 360 controller is not yet destined for mass distribution. While confirming an October 24 release date with Eurogamer, the publisher noted that the new controller, sporting an "optimized" and not-entirely-awful d-pad, will be released as a Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 tie-in product. As such, it will be "a limited edition promotional item that is only available in Europe, Asia and Latin America while supplies last."
It's also a revolting green.
We've contacted Microsoft in the hopes of ascertaining its US plans for the improved controller, if any.

Xbox 360 sold out in Japan
Microsoft's Xbox 360 console has completely sold out in Japan, with no new units due until September.
Hardware sales have rocketed in the region following the release of Namco Bandai's Tales of Vesperia, released last week.
"Currently, the Xbox 360 is sold out, and retailers are unable to restock their supply," reads a statement from the company, translated Kotaku
"This is a result of our own sales targets being exceeded by the actual customer sales. We deeply apologise for this inconvenience to our customers, retailers and business partners.
"Here at Microsoft, we are moving forward quickly with console production, and plan to ship the standard Xbox 360 model out this September. Furthermore, we will sequentially be shipping out the Elite and the Arcade models. We ask that you please patiently wait until the console is shipped," added the company.
The Xbox 360 sold 24,942 units for the week ended August 10, outselling rival PS3 for the first time in the region.

So, upon release, ToV sold more copies than the 360 had sold to-date in the region?
Is it typical to release more copies of a game than you've sold (nearly more than shipped) consoles?

Yeah, I still have two coffins myself but didn't know about the label printing until after I had already ordered my recent coffin... but, they wanted the power brick as well this time which won't fit in the old coffins.

I requested a coffin Wednesday night, 8/6, and my replacement 360 is scheduled to show up Monday, 8/25. The weekends kind of held things up on both ends for me, as I got my coffin on a Monday and will get my new one on a Monday. So that 19 day turnaround is more realistically probably about 16 days.
You should be good to get it by 9/14 (or 9/15).

I don't play mine that much and I still have my orginal (Nov 2005) model. Though, I did sell it yesterday to a friend because I now have the elite.

Wow. Seems to be a rash of RRODs lately. I play mine about 15-20 hours a week which iI don't think is too outrageous.
Mok, they said they would overnight me a coffin as well. It showed up a week later. The shipping of the actual console though was overnight, both ways.

How do you trigger the button sequence for fighting the walker the first couple times I did I wasn't prepared and screwed the pooch? It is pretty sweet, although if you weren't interested in this game initially I don't think it will sway anyone to buy it. This demo seems more to prove to the fanboys that it doesn't suck. This games story I think will be the good part.
