there are good dw weapons for good prices if you take your time and look hard. I have several now that are pretty good that I got for relatively cheap.
I have a couple now with life steal. they aren't as strong as I would like but they are decent. I got a sword the other night that is pretty good -- 1250 dps with 99% crit damage. I wish it had a socket, but you can't have it all. I also have another mighty weapon with 1202 DPS with socket and 274 vitality which is pretty awesome. I only paid 8 million for that. I have a "closet" of one handers that I switch between now.
I really like using the sword with my storm shield. I get about 160,000 dps unbuffed and I am very hard to kill with that storm shield.

sword and board is another thought i've had, but i want the leech from both weapons. i'm looking for a weapon like your mighty weapon (though attack speed is something i really want > 1.4) with leech and some combo of vit / str. we'll see what i find, if anything.
also need some inna's pants for the attack speed / movement speed. then i'm going to try to stack resists everywhere

you can take a look at the two 1 handers i am talking about here. i have my resists up to almost 500. When I equip my shield that goes even higher. 500 is the sweet spot according to most people. i would like to have leech somewhere other than my bloodthirst passive, but i don't. However the higher the DPS you have the less amount of life steal you have to have. Also if you run with Rend Bloodlust that compensates for lack of leech.

good to know that 500 is the sweetspot. a good target to aim for. i'm looking to replace my depth diggers with Inna's, so i need to make up that resist, plus add more.
Vile Ward (or other shoulders) + maybe a mempo will help with that. Also, the ammy market is crashing due to the new crafting, so maybe i can craft or find something good there

I finally picked this up yesterday, killed the Skeleton King and am officially hooked.
Any generic advice out there for a first timer? I started with a barbarian and am rocking a shield, (usually tend to dual wield or use 2 handed in this type of game).

you really don't need a shield at first. I would dual wield. I have a barbarian and didn't use a shield until hell mode.

Glad you are enjoying the game! I have alot of hours into that game....mostly with my barbarian. Give me the link to your profile on battlenet and I will give you some advice from what I see.

Thanks guys. I'll probably do some dual wielding tonight. I haven't played enough to really pick up much good loot yet, but it's been pretty easy so I probably don't need the shield.
Is there a ARPG lingo guide somewhere? I've been reading up a little and keep running into references that I don't understand.

well decided to load this up after all the patches...lol..Inferno was a joke. Shot through act 4 in maybe 30 minutes tops..never once feeling like I was going to die...and I still had my old crap gear.

I got my witch doctor up to level 60 and started inferno but didn't finish. It just got boring after the third time playing the same levels. I even started a barbarian character on hardcore mode but died around level 20. Unless some significant DLC comes out I'm done with this game.

re: Diablo III + Reaper of Souls (multi-platform)
So my story with hardcore....This is where it is at. The thrill of almost going down after having a character for 30 hours is so much fun. Even more of a thrill than Dark Souls, because you lose EVERYTHING!
My first hardcore character was a monk. I used a monk on normal so I felt comfortable using one. If anyone knows hardcore, the auction house is pathetic. Not as many people play so there is not as much good gear, and no real money auction house. So you are never going to be geared up as well as normal.
My Hardcore monk makes it to level 52, and I got hit with the perfect combo of Elites and lost him after 29 hours.
this is back before nerfs to difficulty.
SO a bit later, my friend and I decide to run with two barbarians. We had a blast easily getting them to level 60. We slowly worked our way through act 1 and 2 inferno. Act 3 was just crazy hard so we just played 1 and 2 over and over slowly building up our characters. After a long night of play, we went to the auction house and I got a god-piece of gear I had saved up for. So I went back into the game to try it out, but before the most recent patch when you went back in it spawned you were you left. This happened to be in the middle of those big hammer one-shot elites. I panicked. I was the dps guy, and my friend used his barb for war cry. So my resistances were 50% lower and armor 20%. I died as my friend tried to join my game to save me. 50 hours gone.
We waited until maybe 3 weeks ago to play again. With the lower difficulty we figured it would be easier, even with the lower quality gear on the auction house. I power leveled a barbarian to level 60 in 2 days. We were destroying the first 3 acts, and were ready to start act 4 but we decided to do one last run on act 3. I was getting lazy. It was so easy I was not playing smart. Those little green ball guys that charge you on act 3? Yeah, 4 of them hit me at once. I did not have ignore pain ready to use. Leap was on cool-down. My body just exploded. My friend and I were stunned. Another 40 hours gone.
I was so pissed. The next day, I started a monk in frustration. I wanted the near death experience skill the monk has (survive one free death every 60 seconds) and the fact that two barbarians can't stack war cry, but a monk's mantras will stack with war cry. I played 19 hours, only getting up to go to the bathroom, shower and eat. BOOM level 60.
So last night, we FINALLY beat act 4 inferno hardcore. It was such a fucking thrill. The monk/barb combo is fucking crazy good. We had some close calls, but god I am glad we did it.

I don't have the patience to start the game over multiple times. Hell just playing through the different difficulties to get to Inferno with two characters was a pain in the ass.

i don't have the greatest internet connection so I have never tried a hardcore character. I could deal with dying due to gameplay, but dying to lag would be horrible -- especially if I had 40 hours in. I am sure it is thrilling, but I am confident I would not last long due to connectivity.
