Good "behind the scenes" article on the making of the game, and why it took seven years:

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Aaaand...done. I enjoyed the game for the most part, although I'm glad I rented it as I can't imagine ever wanting to play through the entire thing again. I did develop a knack for interviewing after the first few cases, and I ended up 5-starring a lot of them on my first attempt because of it (and thorough clue-searching of every corner of every location helped).
I think I figured this one out early on -- it's the pupils. Everyone's eyes look almost exactly the same, with the small size of the pupils never changing from person to person or with differences in lighting or situation. It results in an unnatural feeling.
I spent some time during cases hopping into any vehicles that looked unfamiliar, so I ended the game with 93/95 found. Film reels, though? 0/50. I'll go back to get those because I love movies of the time period and I'm curious to see what titles they included. If I'm going to spend all that time looking around, I expect shout-outs to Rififi and Detour at the very least.
Agree with this 100%. I was really, really tired of chases by the end, especially during the street crimes. "I bet this will end with a chase...and here we go!" was my usual reaction along with an
. The worst part was never knowing whether it was a chase that required a tackle, a warning shot, shooting the suspect, or just reaching a pre-scripted location. Very frustrating.
Oh, and the DLC cases were fine, but Nicholson Electroplating really screwed up the flow of the story towards the end. They plopped it in right before the very last case in the game, with Phelps and Herschel as the detectives, so if you've finished the game then you can imagine some of the many reasons why that case in that spot messes with the story that's playing out.
I was really hoping they would work in a beer bottle or teacup being an actual important clue somewhere down the line. That would've been clever.

Chase sequences in this game suck. Once you realize that it really is just sort of a cinema scene it takes the fun out of it. When you run after someone the game moves you at a snails pace until you get to the "part" they want you at. A couple of times it will let you do something different...but for the most part they should have just made it a cinema...

Reefer Madness is really short if you go for the trophy/achievement path. If you go for one of the trophies, you can't 5 star the mission as you skip 2 interviews and miss out on a clue. The 5 star path is a little longer, but it's still the shortest (and weakest) of the DLC missions.

Unless the PS3 trophies are different than the XBL achievements, I got them all on my single playthrough, did 3 interviews, found all clues, and ended up with 4 stars only because I completely screwed up one interview with 0/3 questions correct.

Just finished it. I have to say, they took an interesting approach with this game. 1) It's not a typical Rockstar Games action packed deal, more of a movie that you are playing. Mostly:
Glad I played it, but I think I might have to go trade it for NCAA Football 2012. I just don't see myself playing this anymore.

Reefer madness and the electroplating cases were probably my favorites of the whole game.....well, I have to include the final Black Dhalia case as well.
I actually found it to be just as long as the other cases as well.
Ready to move on now to Max Payne 3 then GTA V.....unless of course Rockstar & Team Bondi add some new free roam features to this game.

If you go for this trophy, you skip the first trip to the soup factory, where you interview the owner and one of the employees (where you also get a clue). The only trip to the soup factory involves a shootout. You can either get this trophy or get 5 stars, but not both without playing the case twice.

The trophy I'm talking about is High Flyer, which is - Find the flyer at Juan Garcia Cruz's house and proceed straight to the 20th Century Market.

Finished the game this week. Loved it at first, then really started disliking the game in the middle, and ending up just liking the game at the end. The ending just didn't really satisfy me much. My breakdown:
Things I liked - Loved the car and foot chases, the soundtrack and radio music, voice acting was amazing, facial technlogy was impressive. I enjoyed the interactivity of the interviews, and how the game plays out a bit differently based on your choices.
Things I didn't like - hated searching for clues especially when the game would not progress until you find something. Towards the end, I was totally stuck because I didn't read a newspaper. (thought it was optional) I didn't like that the game pretty much plays itself. You can skip driving and action scenes, gunplay was very stiff.
Overall, LA Noire feels like one of those 90s era PC adventure games.

I can also confirm it is possible to get all the trophies in Reefer Madness in a single playthrough. The only one I missed was the one you get for going through the backdoor in the house.
