They make some damn good energy drinks too, or are those made by Team Bondi?

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

Just beat it and listed my copy on half.com. The ending was fine with me, to the point where I enjoyed the last couple cases more than most of the rest of the game. I've already outlined most of my complaints through the thread, but the only really significant ones were how lousy the evidence logic was a lot of the time and the fact that the awesome face technology was so ridiculously used to show someone lying. With all the crazy eye rolls and spasms and exaggerated swallowing, they might as well have just had a frowny face pop up over a liar's head. Anyway, I'd give it a 9/10 for ambition/idea, dropped to about a 7/10 as an actual game.

I wasn't able to finish it yesterday, so it will have to wait until Monday. :(

A question for those finished....

Spoiler:
I haven't gone back and redone any cases as of yet, but wasn't a lot of the stuff at the beginning of the game narrated? (Going into each new case.) Wasn't that completely missing outside of the first 1/4-1/3 of the game? What's the deal with that?

Yeah, that was curiously dropped early on. Weird.

Unrelated, but the other day somewhere else someone posted the link to an old Kotaku story where it's mentioned that "noir" was misspelled early on and they just kept it. I was wondering about that. The misspelling has bugged me since I first heard of the game last year.

I've finished the story and the street crimes and am now going after the film reels (with the help of an online guide). I don't think that I have the patience to find every car - I'm at about 65 found right now.

I assumed they had decided that L.A. is feminine. Of course, Film Noir is spelled without the E because film is masculine. I don't think specific cities actually have a gender in French, but the word "ville" is feminine.

Yes, "los" is masculine, but that's Spanish and it wouldn't necessarily be the same in French.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

I just associate the title with Film Noir, which this game is obviously heavily indebted to. But that makes sense, too.

I just finished it, just have to get 5-stars on most of the cases. I noticed that this game has actors from Mad Men. GREAT GAME

Seriously, which characters? I've logged a few cases already and haven't seen any.

I'm not up to the last desk yet, but so far I've seen...

Spoiler:
Michael Gladis (a mustached bartender)
Rich Sommer (not wearing glasses like on MM, don't remember the character)
Patrick Fischler (had a guest stint on MM, but you'll probably recognize him as Mickey Cohen)

It cracks me up that I can never tell if people are just being assholes or completely clueless.

I know L&O was being an asshole.

Just finished it and while it was a great ride I don't see myself playing through it again. Selling I will go.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

I finished the main game last night. I would give 8/10, but admittededly the game earned one of those stars with the last set of cases, which are really strong. I stood up and took notice (in a good way) when:

Spoiler:
You start playing as Kelso.

My biggest problem with the game is that:

Spoiler:
After traffic, there are no stand-alone cases! As a result, most of the time you are arresting the wrong guy...which takes away from the sense of achievement as you go through the story. I'm all for having a main arc through the game, but in a game such as this it's very odd to having nothing else.

I will hold onto this, as I can see myself playing the DLC for this. I also want to go back and finish up the street crimes, hidden cars, and five star some more cases. I will NOT be doing the film reels or driving all 95 cars.

I only found one film reel:

Spoiler:
On Tex's porch near the end, just ran into it looking for clues.

I finished up my review. Personally, my biases would rank the game a near masterpiece, but looking at it objectively, a lot of people will merely enjoy going through it once and never looking at it again.

But it's so much fun stopping to get in and out of cars for 10 minutes every time you pass a parking lot. FOR HOURS.

LOL! This is exactly what I've been doing. When I finish the game I will try Pinata's approach.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

I finished this game a couple of days ago (I was in no rush to post my final thoughts) and I would give it a solid 7 out of 10 but only because of what it TRIED to be and the fact that it took a lot of balls to release a game like this (even though it is shitty).

The story by the end is fucking dreadful:

Spoiler:
I simply did not buy some whacko dressed up in his army uniform blasting people away with his flame thrower...why? Because he was so fucking out of it at the end that there is no way hell this guy would have been controllable by the people who were running the arson operation to begin with.....terrible

Points lost for placing it in an open world as well....had this been a strictly linear play through with more dynamic enviornments like Alan Wake it would have prob ended up being a much better game.

The gameplay....I think I've already said enough on it.

It's just scary to see hipster shit like "One of the most important games I've ever played" on Team Bondi's site.....really? Give me a break. The amount of praise this game is receiving is just laughable.....there is nothing groundbreaking about the game at all.....it's just very average with excellent acting.

I've honestly never been this let down by a game before to the point where I feel like I've been scammed.

You find absolutely nothing about the tech used for this game in regards to facial animation groundbreaking?

But hey..you gave it a solid 7 despite feeling like it scammed you and is shitty. That's some scale! ;)
