Call of Duty: World at War

CoD2 had some great set pieces. It had a pretty memorable and compelling single player and the multiplayer was fluid, easy to pick up, and a good deal of fun.
For CoD3 they set it in a portion of the war that many didn't know a whole lot about and the set pieces were just boring. They completely screwed up the multiplayer by adding in all the vehicles and the game shipped with completely broken multiplayer. For the first several days i was unable to get a single ranked or unranked match... that is absurd for a Live title. Vehicles were just broken.
I did like the character classes having different skills but those skills weren't usable outside of just a couple modes.
Thankfully i think CoD4 did the character class thing correctly.

Yea not much to expect in a WW1 game. My two wishes for COD were Pacific campaigns or the already mentioned Vietnam.
There are a lot of things that they could do with either one. Hopefully the game is better than COD3 though.

Here's an idea that hasn't really be done (Timesplitters doesn't count) Why can't you have a game that follows a families bloodline through different wars. Kind of like how COD4 had two stories going at once. Plus if done right you could feel a real connection with the characters, and you could get a couple wars out of it, and different weapons it would help keep it fun.

I really don't understand all the hatred for COD3. The single player wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't bad, and the multiplayer (post-release jitters accounted for) was a huge improvement over 2. The flow is much better, and there isn't the feeling that you're just playing a Counterstrike WWII mod.

Call of Duty 5 Aims to Redefine WW2 Shooters
Painfully aware of how oversaturated the World War 2 genre is, Call of Duty 5 developer Treyarch aims to make it the best WW2 shooter ever, according to Senior producer Noah Heller.
No pressure...
Painfully aware of how oversaturated the World War 2 genre is, Call of Duty 5 developer Treyarch aims to make it the best WW2 shooter ever, according to Senior producer Noah Heller.
"Modern Warfare opened the door to so many people new to Call of Duty," senior producer Noah Heller told MCV.
"The game built great fertile ground for us to start on and if we're going to say: 'Look it's Christmas, here's another Call of Duty as you loved it last year', then we need to make sure the game is high quality or people won't trust what Call of Duty is."
Heller added, "This has to be the best shooter and has to redefine the World War II genre."

I'm with you guys, I'm much more excited about Brothers in Arms than another Treyarch CoD sequel. Though having it set in the Pacific could help.

My standards aren't pretty high for this one so hopefully things will come out ok. All the world war stuff has been done to death and then done again. If they can figure out just ONE single thing that works and will set this game apart from the hundreds of other world war games out there I will be pleased. I would also like to see the achievement system like the ones from COD 2 and 4 where they are all main game and then you can unlock other stuff that is a separate reward for playing multi.

I know, I thought the same thing (as in "why did they put that in there?")

Saw the trailer earlier today on xbox live - didn't really do much for me as they didn't show too much gameplay - The tree climbing looks cool though.

Trailer looked alright, definitely did not seem to take a huge step backward at all. The one thing that has my interest is that there will be 4 player co-op. While I love MP, I always play a lot of these games and wish instead of AI squadmates in the main story I instead had a couple friends to try it out with.

I didnt want to begin a new thread, this COD one will do.
I was just looking at the playstation 3 games on wikipedia and noticed that COD 3 was released on the PS3, what is the difference between the ps2 and ps3 versions of the game?
