I wouldn't mind if it was just slow speed - I'd let it download while I go do something else. One problem was that it kept getting timed out and unable to download at all. And normally, that wouldn't be a problem either, as I'd just wait a few days or whatever. But for some reason, the second a new update is out, Sony won't let you shop or play online with the old version, so you have to download the update in order to play - but you can't because it's all fucked up. See the catch-22?

either there is a regional difference with speeds or something in your setup is affecting your speeds. have two PS3s. updated one last night, took less than 10 minutes total. updated the other this afternoon, took less than 10 minutes total. just to see, right now i am downloading the update from sony site, says 12 minutes and downloading at 165 KB/sec....

I just downloaded the update in less than 5 minutes... must have just gotten lucky, because I too at times have had problems with severely slow downloads and the occasional, it just will not download at all.

Just to throw my 2 cents in. I downloaded the firmware yesterday at about 4pm EST and it took about 10 minutes or less (I walked away from it while downloading so I don't have a more accurate time). At about 10:30 pm I was downloading some demos and got booted from PSN and was then unable to reconnect due to a DNS error. I could still browse my local network and my PC was on the internet so I am assuming that this was a PSN problem. I gave up but will try to continue my downloads this afternoon.

mine went fairly quickly last night, maybe 15 minutes max. I know that doesn't sound fast at all but I was downloading stuff on my PC and I had my 360 downloading a couple game demos. So for Sony that was lightning fast.

mine took about 5 minutes yesterday afternoon (download + install). The only time downloads are slow for me is if an update just came out, or on thursday night when the store is updated.

2.42 went ok for me....pretty fast, although it locked up my system when I tried to go into the PS Store. I had to flip the switch on the back to reboot.

Took about 20 minutes to download the update for me last night at 8PM. I then bought Pain which took about 30 minutes to download twice. The Pain download also stopped for me at 770k in but didn't time out. I walked away from the PS3 for 5 minutes, came back and saw it was stuck. I had to reboot the PS3 and then it went fine.

Pain is a pretty fun game. I need to check the other modes, as all I did was the tutorial and the sandbox. I think I'd feel gipped if I spent $10 but $5 is a nice price. My wife seemed to enjoy it even more than me.

Took me 40 minutes to DL the update today. Ended up picking up Poker today -- don't really know why except that I couldn't let the sale go by without getting something I didn't already have and that Rocketmen game seems sucky.

No limited-time intro price on PJ Eden like there was with Monsters?

They just offered me a survey and I went ahead and took it. It had download speeds as a question and I gave them the lowest score possible. Maybe the message will get through at some point.

Based on what I read over on the Playstation forum, very little:

"Playability of some PLAYSTATION®3 and PlayStation® format software has been improved."

Where is this survey? Or is it just for "a select few"?

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty has been set for an 08/21 release date.

Much sooner than I was expecting.

They did say "late Summer" at E3.

Now I'm just gonna have to set aside the 8 hours I'll probably need to download the damn thing...

It very well may be random, but I believe it was sent to me from the Playstation Underground website which is where you register your hardware and games. There's also a forum there to discuss all things playstation.
