Wrong. Disliking things is just fine. It was the juvenile competition to claim to have hated them for the longest or the most that was laughable. But hey, this is the video game forum. I sometimes forget we're not all adults.

And yet this is an older forum with an average age around 27 from the threads asking everyone to talk about themselves.

I didn't see people one upping one another on when they liked/didn't like them.

edit: ok fine, one guy claimed to hate them before the OD and change to the Long Beach Dub Allstars (who I saw at the Final Freak Out (y2k Primus show)). But aside from that, just people bitching about bands they dislike. Nothing wrong with that.

So definite    to Stranglehold.

Dammit! I was firmly on the "not going to buy any more plastic instruments" side of the fence until I read this....THANKS Ted Nugent!

 Yep. Sounds like they are actually trying with IV. It's hard to walk away from Terrible Ted, the Eagles, Sublime, Van Halen & even Linkin Park. That's just 5 artists and I'm already pumped for the game.

freshticles 05-21-08 02:24 AM

Linkin Park? Do people still listen to rap inflected pop-metal?

XavierMike 05-21-08 04:52 AM

Actually, their new album has less rap influence then any of their others. And it is quite good, IMHO.

freshticles 05-21-08 05:07 AM

So they're just surfin with the times trying not to get swallowed? Ok, I get it.

I'll go ahead and admit that I'm pretty Anti-Mainstream and yeah I do wear it like a badge of honor :). But I'll say that while I was traveling for work and forgot my iPod I had to listen to the radio, I heard probably the newest Linkin Park song. I thought it was pretty good, although I haven't had to hear it 400 times in a week, just twice on that trip.

....on a side note
Just because the band logo tatoos surrounding your barb wire arm band read like a roadmap of what's cool this week in music doesn't mean you should bash people who actually dig a little deeper. ;)

I'm pretty sure I'll be on the fence with this game until I've heard one way or the other from people playing it.

That's what's great about LP. They can do the rap-rock thing, or do the rap thing, or the rock thing depending on what's popular. And yes, their newest album is probably their best, IMO.

Spoiler:
I fucking love "debut" trailers that don't have any gameplay footage in them

DaveWadding 05-21-08 12:27 PM

So Lenny Kravitz then too?

It just keeps getting better. I posted about wanting Are You Gonna Go My Way a while back. Another one that will be great to play.

Aren't they cutting off their nose to spite their face though? Marketing this before Aerosmith comes out? Really? What average person will pick that up if they see the marketing on IV already?

pinata242 05-21-08 12:54 PM

^ What are the odds that Aerosmith will be secretly compatible with GH4 instruments?

I thought I did read that it will be forward compatible. Makes sense, and nullifies my last post.

Really? Those artists make me want to run as far from the game as possible.

Of course, it goes along with my GH/RB complaint that the last one or two setlists are always these incredibly long '70s rock or metal songs that I don't find fun to play at all. There are difficult songs that aren't in those two genres, guys.

Kelkee 05-21-08 01:28 PM

It will be interesting to see just what the special guitar holds in store for us.

Now I'm thinking that the drum set's pressure sensitivity is a give away. I wonder if the frets are going to be the same?

On the other hand what kind of Guitar Hero can you rightfully claim to be if you can't play these types songs well?

XavierMike 05-21-08 01:44 PM

I would say 50/50. The new Aerosmith game seems to feature all of the band members and not jusdt focus on guitar.

I know. This was my big sore point when the trailer first hit. I think I said it was showcasing what I wouldn't be doing in a "Guitar" Hero game.

If there is more to GH:A than just GH3.5, they need to officially announce it quick.

Guitar Hero 1
1977 "Godzilla" Blue Öyster Cult
1983 "Texas Flood" Stevie Ray Vaughan
1972 "Frankenstein" Edgar Winter Group
1990 "Cowboys from Hell" Pantera
1983 "Bark at the Moon" Ozzy Osbourne

Guitar Hero 2
2005 "Beast and the Harlot" Avenged Sevenfold
2001 "Carry Me Home" The Living End
1983 "Institutionalized"† Suicidal Tendencies
1962 "Misirlou" Dick Dale
1990 "Hangar 18" Megadeth
1973 "Free Bird"† Lynyrd Skynyrd

Guitar Hero 3
1986 "Raining Blood" Slayer
1990 "Cliffs of Dover" Eric Johnson
1982 "Number of the Beast" Iron Maiden
1988 "One"† Metallica
2007 "Devil Went Down to Georgia" Steve Ouimette

Rock Band (Guitar)
1980 "Flirtin' with Disaster" Molly Hatchet
1975 "Green Grass and High Tides" The Outlaws
1972 "Highway Star" Deep Purple
1982 "Run to the Hills" Iron Maiden
1974 "Train Kept A-Rollin'" Aerosmith

I dunno, except for Rock Band's 'guitar' top tier, it looks pretty diverse to me. I think they try to use songs that are 'legendary', or very well known (Classics). Look at Stairway to Heaven, Money, Sweet Home Alabama, Stranglehold, Do You Feel Like We Do?, Eruption, etc... All 'legendary' 70's songs that could easily be in those setlists. As for the 80's, how about Panama, Dr. Feelgood, Still of the Night, Rainbow in the Dark, For Those About To Rock/Back in Black, etc...

Once you stroll into the 90's & 2000's, the legendary/well known songs drop off considerably. I'm not bashing the two decades, but they aren't as well known for mega-hits like the 70's & 80's.

fumanstan 05-21-08 02:47 PM

I really like Linkin Park and Sublime, so sounds great to me. It's the 70's or 80's bands that I don't care for.

I guess this one's not too bad.

RB is the worst, I will agree.

IMO this was a fun set...all of a sudden I'm ready to skip out of work early to go hook up my PS2 for a while!
