I think I'll go for the guitar/game bundle. Screw the drums not being compatible. Plus, I just don't drum that often by myself in RB anyway. Almost always guitar. Drums are basically relegated to party play once every few weeks. On top of that RB2 will definitely be compatible with the drums so I'll just stick to HMX games for my drumming needs.

It should be interesting to see what the new guitar is capable of. I imagine that they will be selling alot of the guitar paks if its truely revolutionary.

New details...

This game is going to kick so much ass. I can't wait to create my own songs!!!

Mordred 06-19-08 04:51 PM

Color me impressed so far. Everything sounds good. If they fix the lag with the PS3 controllers (please God no more dongle) I'll be ecstatic.

Michael Corvin 06-19-08 06:46 PM

That's a damn fine looking axe. The drums don't look very sturdy.

Also, cash is awarded at the end of each song, divvied up amongst the band members based on their individual performances.
 That's awesome.

Looking awesome.

Yep. I have had to sell my guitar on craigslist everytime before a release of GH to upgrade to the new one. Looks like I will be doing that again. That looks just too sweet.

The base looks really narrow, doesn't it? Like it wouldn't take much to knock them over. Plastic PVC piping? Really, that's the best you could do?

*sigh* I tried to tell myself for any number of reasons that I was going to wait for reviews. I put in GH3 the other day, and the further away from it I get, the less I enjoy it when I come back. Frankly, while I am consistently blown away by what rabbit can do, the "chore" aspect (which to be fair, I found to be somewhat true of GH2 on Expert as well) just zaps the enjoyment out of a great setlist for me. So I knew I should tread with caution when it came to 4.

Then they said "Everlong." Dammit! Now I guess it'll be a matter of which flavor I'll get. :(

Just get the game. All the old guitars work. Or hell maybe you'll get lucky and the first five announced above will be in a demo.

Yeah, the appeal of drums is big, though. That said, I'm leaning toward just the game since the music creator doesn't personally interest me and that seems to be the place where most of the new instrument features are geared. Then if the game's good, I'll piece the equipment together.

So why not just stop at the level where you are still challenged and its fun but its not a such chore?

Better served for the GH3 thread, but there are a lot of things that factor into it being a chore. Basically, and for me personally, that level doesn't exist on GH3.

Kelkee 06-20-08 10:18 AM

The cash being divvied up is a neat little detail. Its going to be the little details that make this one standout.

Now this may sound a bit (or waaay) off topic but I had an idea for a future GH title. Was listening to Stairway to Heaven and all the imagery and mythos associated with that song. What about an RPG:GH?

You battle foes with songs.
Different songs you learn have different powers (magic, healing, offence, defense) and such.
Could train with master musicians in some fantasy themed land.
Enemies you defeat increase your music power and battle setlist.
Can buy different guitars and bass, power ups and such.
Online play.

Final Guitar Hero Quest

I'd be all over it, but I enjoy GH and RPGs so it'd be like my perfect game.

aktick 06-20-08 10:27 AM

The music creator doesn't really interest me either, but I will be interested in downloading other user created songs, I would imagine some people will spend a lot of time creating good songs. I'm definitely going game-only with this one.

Carry on in the GH3 if you want to discuss. So Hard is too easy for you and Expert is too difficult?

Right now Hard for me is fun and challenging. Im learning new techniques to better my game every time I practice and play. At times it has been frustrating and I walk away for a few days and return noticing that I have progressed to some degree. That keeps me going.

I'd definately buy. I think it would be a great spin-off to the series.

You may consider getting the guitar pack. I imagine that the new controller will allow you to boost your scores higher somehow with the new mechanics built into it.

Isn't that what Brutal Legends is supposed to be?

I already have too many damned guitars. I'd consider it if I could get something for my wireless LP, Xplorer, or Strat.

Michael Corvin 06-20-08 10:58 AM

I have two and ordered the GH: Aerosmith one. I'm giving one of them to a friend, but it looks like I'll be getting rid of another one when GH4 comes out.

Kelkee 06-20-08 12:21 PM

Does anyone know if there will be the option to have 3 guitarists play at once? Lead, Rhythm, and Bass?

Kelkee 06-20-08 12:47 PM

Hmmm. Close but you dont actually play along to the music. Seems you just press button combos to get spells to cast.

Im talking more along the lines of actual GH play. You battle playing against your foes and the winner is the one with the better ability.
Stronger foes have more difficult songs, longer songs to battle.

Perhaps actual artist's songs are like relics to discover that give super powers. As opposed to regular battles that just take a few chords or notes kinda like Zelda's Ocarina did.

Not an RPG, but The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai for XBLA is along those lines.
