Gamestop IS that powerful.

Yesterday I was reading this article: "Apple Tops U.S. Retail Chains in Sales Per Square Foot", Gamestop is number 5 there. Below Apple, Tiffany, Coach and Lululemon. That's crazy for a store that "only" sells videogames.

Lululemon is that popular? Actually all of those are theme specific stores - Apple is Apple products only, Tiffany is fancy shit only, Coach are overpriced handbags, Lululemon is yoga shit, Gamestop is Videogames.

And they all tend to have pretty small stores.

yeah, it's not that surprising to me that Square caved to Gamestop. They are the largest game-only retailer in the country in terms of stores. It wouldn't surprise me if they are up there with Wal-Mart and Best Buy in terms of game sales revenue.

I doubt it.

In all honesty, why would they care? If all of those 1500 people never bought from Gamestop again, why would Gamestop give a shit? It wouldn't impact them in the slightest. Even if those 1500 people told another 1500 people who told another 1500 people, I still don't think Gamestop would break much of a sweat.

Just like the Netflix rate increase a few months ago, this will cause a (much smaller) shit storm online for a while and then blow over.

Well, companies go out of business for this kind of thing all the time.

You can't screw the customers on price/product AND screw them on Customer service forever. Netflix may have screwed people on price/product, but their CS is still awesome so they survived. Sadly Gamestop screws people on price/product and CS on a very regular basis as both of them typically suck horribly.

Even the dumbass people will eventually get the blunt point and realize they are being screwed and move on.

Maybe, but I don't think Gamestop is going out of business any time soon.

If anything I'd think that a rival streaming game delivery service would be their biggest challenge, not their shitty customer service.

HaHa I didn't realize there was a whole Thread for hating on Gamestop. Gamestop has alot of flaws but then again they have alot of pros. In the end you guys are still complaining because you still shop there!!!! That makes me :lol:

I've only bought one thing at Gamestop in the last 5-6 years. That was Deadly Premonition, which I bought there only because they were the only store in my area stocking it.

Sadly, they have been screwing people with their shitty trade in prices and weak sales for years. I'm all for profit margin and I know they don't make much off of new games or hardware, but still, $25 for a new release which will be put on the shelf for $55 is a bit insulting. $1 for $9.99. $2 for $17.99, etc.

The employees are under so much pressure to hit sales goals that customer service is often thrown out the window just to improve their numbers. I've had an easier time buying a new car then I do shopping at Gamestop. Many times i've had employees outright lie to me, telling me how so and so game will be sold out everywhere and the only way to get it is to preorder it today.

All the evidence they need is right in front of them, yet they continue to grow sales every year.

So it's legal for a seller like Gamestop to take a product, remove part of it and sell it like it was new and complete while other retailers were selling the entire product? At the least it sounds like false advertising if not outright theft. Especially if they did not let the consumers know they were removing a part of the product. I can't believe this is legal. They are not even offering a comparable service to take the place of what they are removing. It's like you buy a car with a Kenwood radio and the dealer says, we will be carrying only bose some day so we are taking the Kenwood out and then you can have the car.

Just as with any retailer, you need to wait for the right bonuses/sales. I've benefited quite a bit off of their trade-in deals and sales.

I used to trade games in with them, but now they aren't the only game in town. Best Buy, Toys R Us and Amazon all are in the trade in game, now. I don't have to deal going in there anymore.

I recently traded in a bunch of games to them. I had a clutter of games I got on sale or used that were kind of old. I checked prices to sell them online and compared it with what GS offered. At the time they had a trade in deal that gave you an extra 10$ for every three traded games. That made a huge difference when trading in games for a dollar that online sold for hardly anything. :shrug:

Plus I was able to get an off-beat game that nobody else locally had. So it worked out in the end.

Like others said, if you make your choices when deals are available it can work out.
