Is Gamestop a publicly traded company? If so, I hope you're keeping records for at least 7 years or you may have bigger problems than some unhappy customers.

so MW2=$5 for me...i did get calls telling me my preorder was there. never bothered to do anything about it though

I don't think they delete the preorder info very often. I preordered a PS3 Slim last year. They called when they unloaded them off the truck and I went to pick mine up. 2 days later they called again letting me know my PS3 was there.

I don't know what the issue is with long-held pre-orders. When I worked at Gamestop we had pre-orders in the system for Madden 98 because someone never bothered to actually pick it up.

That's the one thing I don't get. That info can't be more than a few Bytes of info. I don't care one way or the other, but it seems like a lame excuse.

Have any of you have ever bought anything on layaway? Now, there was a racket. You would loose all of your money if you didn't pay it off in the allotted time.

For a company the size of GS and with their resources, it's just embarrassing that they can't do the same.

I hate Gamestop as much as the rest here, but does anyone know what Target and Best Buy and some of the other major retailer's policies are on this now that they take pre-orders?

Other than Amazon, with their recent credit back deals I never pre-order games. I just don't find any need.

If you think that's bad, you should check out some of the furniture-rental store contracts. When you rent multiple things at different times, payments are applied to either the entire balance of your account or the most recent item rented, so that the older items are never paid off, and the store can repossess EVERYTHING you've rented if you miss a payment. As if it wasn't bad enough that if you rent-to-own you end up paying ridiculous amounts for the items. (That's a very simplified explanation, but that scenario is still possible.)

As for Gamestop, the last game I pre-ordered was Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. It would take a very cool bonus for a game that I really, really wanted on release day (rare) for me to do it again.

You can get a $20 gift card at Amazon or Wal Mart with a preorder on this one, making it $29.99.

I'm with hail2dking on this one. I ordered 3D Dot Heroes, Metro 2033, Deadly Premonition, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake, Dead Rising 2, Red Dead Redemption and Fallout New Vegas and the total came to just over $300. I'd been sitting on some credit forever, so that brought it down even further, but anyway you cut it, $300 is a great price for that order. Between the current coupons and the recent BOGO, Gamestop has jumped up a few notches in my book.

$20 to either of those places is the same as cash in my book. Either way, you spend $50 up front and get $20 on the back end. Is that better :)

I stopped by Gamestop at lunch because that is the only place I could find Deadly Premonition locally. So when I got home I notice there is a card in my bag for one of those retarded online browser games that I can't imagine ANYONE actually plays called Legends of Zork and it shows up on my receipt as $5.99 but I paid $0.00 due to a promo I guess. The card says the game is completely free to play but what has me worried is the receipt lists it as Legend of Zork (Jolt Trial), so I'm just wondering if this is some Gamestop scam and my credit card is going to get hit in a month for this Jolt shit, whatever the hell it is.
Maybe I'm being overly paranoid, but I don't trust Gamestop.

The game is free to play even without the card. It is like the Facebook games in that you can choose to pay real money to advance quicker.

The game is kind of dumb but if you have that card, sign up with the code, have your character hit level 5, then you are entered into a drawing to win free games for a year. I think if you hit level 15 you get a second entry.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

i stopped by today to pick up the newer Zelda game for DS as I'm going to a trip. The guy is like "oh we have one copy left. I'll go grab it off the shelf." I go "is it the opened copy?" he said "yeah" so I told him not to bother. so i paid for it on amazon w/ 1 day shipping (thanks Prime!) and I paid less than what I would've there at Gamestop.

slop101 04-28-10 08:14 PM

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

Not to mention, the game's been out for almost 6 months now. Why in the fuck do they need open copies at all?

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

i understand it, working at a mom and pop game store. having a case on the shelf helps sell product. that way you don't have to hand someone the physical product to look at. that's bad, especially when it's busy, because you can lose track of product and it gets stolen. and most gamestop stores by me have no security at the door, so it would be totally easy. but after reading all the crazy shit about them on consumerist and other sites where employees play "new" games and then sell them as such. screw that noise.

slop101 04-28-10 11:27 PM

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

They already have display cases/artwork they can use for the shelves without having to disembowel an actual copy.

I never understood why the game factories don't just send a dummy box to Gamstores. How hard is it to throw in an empty case with proper label into the box at shipping?

that's not always true of every game. last night i was in the store and they printed out their own cover for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and put it in a dvd case for the shelf.
