I 5 starred it on Easy , only missed like 4 notes total.... On Med I keep failing at like 85%.

Alright, I have some news on the Activision front regarding GH1/2 and the compatibility patch. This news comes from the "take it with a grain of salt" friend of a friend of a friend, but is purported straight from an Activision employee familiar with the GH franchise. So do with it what you will.

1) The cross compatibility patch for PS3 will NEVER happen. The reason for this is that Activision feels the RB equipment is crappy (in the case of the guitar, they are correct) and they don't want people buying their guitar just to play RB. They feel they have the better product and want people to buy GH instead of RB.

2) GH1 and GH2 songs will be ported to the GH franchise during 2008. The likely avenue is through DLC for GH3 but a standalone release is being considered (Guitar Hero Classic?)

So that's what I found out today. Again, this is as far from official as you can get, so don't shoot the messenger.

That would be awesome. Throw 1 & 80's together for the 360 with the DLC? That would rock.

I thought I read once that Harmonix has the rights to all of the old GH1 & GH2 songs? I suppose if the artists/labels or whoever gives them the rights, they can have them. Just thought I saw something like that at one point.

This is just a guess, but they have the rights to the current versions so Activision could just re-do all the songs on each game. I'm sure they can't just port it over.

Depends on what engine they use. If they use the GH3 engine, forget it, if they tweak it properly, then I'm okay with that.

I don't know about the 80s, but I thought that there was a good deal of GH1 songs on GH2 for 360, either on the official release or though DLC.

BTW, the term "port" that I used is a reflection of my lack of a better one. To clarify, what he said was that GH1 and GH2 songs will be playable on GH during 2008. Sorry for that misuse of the word.

Couple of quick questions.

I played this game christmas eve at my cousin's house. The xbox 360 version. My six year old loved it, and he has a wii. So I would like to get the wii version so I can play this with him. My nine year old didn't seem that interested but that may have had more to do with the fact that like everybody there was trying to play so it was hard to get a turn. Is the wii version pretty much the same as the xbox 360 version?

Any idea on when/if stand alone guitar controls for the wii will be available?

And why is this game so frickin' hard to find? I have best buy gift cards from christmas i would like to use so I am limited to getting it from Best Buy, but you can't even get it online from BB. Is this because of the sound problems? Are they just holding it back from stores until they get the sound issue resolved?

The WII version is the hardest one to find. I found one for xmas after going to 10 different Target/WM/BBY/CC stores. The one I found was in a Target 20 miles away in the middle of nowhere.

The game will play exactly the same on any system.

Really? I saw it for the Wii at numerous places over the holiday, the only one that seemed MIA was the 360 ones.

Not in my area. I have seen every version readily available except the 360 version which is still scarce.

In other news...I finally passed Thru the Fire and the Flames on Medium! But at a miserable 63%.

What finally helped is my Les Paul didn't do star power automatically like it usually does (for once) and I was able to save up a full bar once I got to the last quarter of the song. This pulled me thru but it was very much by the skin of my teeth.

I hate playing songs crappy just to pass but truly never see me being able to pass that song on Hard. I actually felt so good about passing it finally (even at such a shitty percentage) that I jumped on the first tier of Hard on GHIII. Passed two songs but failed two. I even failed one of them at 6% in which I found humorous and depressing at the same time. I didn't figure on it being such a huge jump up from Medium.

I don't know if I will be able to complete the Hard level on GHIII. I also hate playing when you miss notes constantly and get the music drop-outs all the time. Ugh. I won't give up but this may be more that I can handle. I tried placing my pinky on the farthest one down as others have suggested but even in the early Hard GHIII songs, you move so much that I lose my place constantly.

The EGM rumours section says 4 new GH titles this year:

Guitar Hero 4
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
2 others (possibly a DS version)

If that's not milking, I don't know what is.

Well GH4 should be expected. A new GH every year should be part for the course as long as the title is popular.

I'd buy Aerosmith as long as it's not a full price title. But those boys have alot of songs to choose from!

DS version? Pretty stupid. Like the cell phone version.

Which is funny, b/c around here, the 360 version is BY FAR the most prevalent.

Why? It's guitar charts are way better than RB's. So is the equipment.

I see PS3 versions the most.

Anyway, GH3 is my first entry into this stuff but I think it might be enough for me. GH4 or any other releases might be overkill for me unless the tracks are amazing.

I find it very surprising that the people who brought us 37 Tony Hawk games would ever milk a franchise.

While I assume you meant GH3's charts, I'd have to disagree. Adding complex chord changes just to make it more difficult (and having to loosen the engine to make some songs possible) isn't better in my opinion. I know you like to say "they are more like on a real guitar", but that, too, I disagree with (and if I want to play a guitar, I play a guitar, with these, I want to play fun games, which GH3 wasn't entirely).

Yeah, I dislike the GH3 charts immensely. It doesn't even feel like I'm playing guitar anymore.

I feel the same way, Spider. On GH2, hard felt like it was attainable with practice, but not on GH3. I stopped playing 2 mostly because I hated the fucking xplorer, and going back to it now with the Les Paul is fun, but I think after I beat hard on GH2 and Medium on GH3, I'm done unless I'm playing for fun or with friends. Then again, I'm not an achievement whore (not that you are...just saying in general). The orange button is murdering me on GH3, much more so than GH2, and the fact that there are so many other good games out right now to play, I just won't be investing the time into mastering GH. It's fun to a point, then it can fuck right off. Besides...it's cutting into my 4 hour plays on CoD4 with you fuckers.
