Now that I have joined the Guitar Hero bandwagon, I wish they would release the 80's GH game that was done for the PS2. I want to play some of the songs on there so much that I would almost go buy a PS2 just for that...almost.

I would love the 80s songs on the 360.

What cheat code was being discussed earlier? I've only seen the one that lets you play all the songs in quick play.

There is a cheat code to make Bret Michaels the lead singer all the time. That was one of the cheats I used before my 360 died on me.

Did you join the dvdtalk tour group on guitarhero.com? It's all about the groupies!

I kick ass on Medium, and can even 5 star all the songs, but Hard is just frustrating. I can get 4 stars on a few songs, but it's mostly 3's (and the more I progress, the more I'm hanging on to dear life, constantly in the red). And what really sucks is I actually play the guitar quite well, but it seems the skills don't transfer over.

Nah, because from what I understand, it's probably even harder as a guitarist because you're used to such a more complex 'machine'. In guitar hero, it's just colored buttons like a toy. I've heard friends who are guitarists find this game harder because of this reason, too.

I suck at guitar and am decent at this game so there may be some truth to that theory. My cousin is a bona fide rocker/guitarist and sucks so hard at this game.

If you were being sarcastic, then my sarcasm-meter must be broken.
My high score on Through Fires and Flames was 850k. That was on the Wii...

No, I kid. I don't play this game. Its for losers...

No, I kid again. I can barely get past that song on medium while I 3 or 4 star most songs on hard.

And yes, your sarcasm meter must have been off.

The jump from medium to hard is the toughest part of the game. The addition of the 5th button goes from having your fingers stationary all the time to having to move them all the time. The added speed doesn't help things either. You'll also need to master hammer ons and pull offs at this point. It took me a long time to get used to it all. I played a few songs on expert and the jump from hard to expert was easier, IMO.

I agree with this. I've played guitar for almost 20 years now, and one of the main issues is that I know how to play most of these on the guitar. So you are expecting and anticipating certain changes and note strikes that never come, or don't expect the ones that do. It's been a challenge with GH.

About the only advantage I have is that I'm used to using my pinky just like any other finger.

Hammerons and pull-offs are great in Guitar Hero 3. A lot easier to do. In GH II I thought they were damn near impossible. Rock Band is the same way, a lot tighter again. GH III spoiled me. But I think it's harder in Rock Band anyways with that new strum bar.

GH II and Rock Band are, imo, how HO/PO should be.

GH I was way too difficult, GH III was way too easy.

My Roommate became a whiney bitch about it last night, so he switched to drums haha.

I thought GH I was wicked easy, GH II more difficult all around throughout the whole game, a good balance, and Guitar Hero III was easy up until the last couple/few tiers that ended up being brutal on expert. Guitar Hero III is the hardest for me due to those killer songs that are keeping me from finishing the game 100% on expert.

ditto, I know a bunch of these which has really thrown me off several times.

and yes, the pinky power is key!

I often wish I could sub a real guitar, I think I would do better in many cases!

To note, I was talking in reference to the HO/POs. GH I is the easiest of the series, overall, by far.

I just don't like the note placements as much in GH3, theres a disconnect between them and the songs, it feels like I'm playing a videogame peripheral device instead of anything remotely similar to an actual instrument (an illusion GH1 managed to nail and GH2 did for the most part).

Oh yeah, the HO/PO's are definitely ranked impossible in the first game to easiest in the third. Sorry bout that.

I have not. I'm not that great so I don't know if I can help much. What do I need to do?

It doesn't matter what skill level you're at, because completing the game on easy nets you hundreds of groupies. After you register an account at guitarhero.com there's a "Link Account" option in the website where you plug in a code you get that's found in your game and it links your play history to the website.

Then you can join our Tour Group.

Now, I love how they did the HO/POs in GH1, but I don't really see how you could say they're they easiest. They're actually the hardest, as the timing window is pretty damn small, and the requirement to hold the lower notes is still intact. This is the reason that GH1 can "feel" better than the subsequent games, as I've noticed several times in GH2 and 3 (especially 3) where the game was registering that I've hit notes and I knew that I wasn't anywhere near hitting them at the correct times. The HO/PO window in GH3 is just way too big, and it tends to make the game feel a tad sloppy at times.

No no no, I said GH1 had the hardest HO/PO but was, overall, the easiest game in the series. It was a split post with multiple ideas in a short space . All sorts of fragmented .

Do you recommend getting the wired or wireless bundle for the XBox 360? I read that many people are having problems with the wireless controller and its removable neck.

How long is the cord that comes with the wired model?

I like the wireless myself since I am about 16 feet from my console.

The cord on the wired guitar is about 8 feet. I had to use an extra USB cable to make it long enough.

Have anyone downloaded the Halo theme yet?

It's kinda strange to hear the theme with a guitar riff.

Great news! There's going to be another update for GH3! (But just for the two consoles that don't seem to have any actual problems with the game - PS3 and 360. Still no word on the Wii version, of course.)
