Agreed completely. Right now, the only "must-have" title for '08 is GTAIV. Meanwhile, I bought more games in 2007 than I ever have in my life...usually I'm a renter.

Condemned 2 is my first 'must buy' since Burnout turned out to be a turd. What's fucked up is all five of my friends LOVED the Burnout demo, so I may be getting it out of peer pressure.

GTAIV is the only must have for me so far, based on gameplay, but I'll almost certainly get Lost and any Indiana Jones games, just out of love for those franchises.

That Indiana Jones game actually looked really cool 2 YEARS AGO when they first showed bits of it, haven't really heard anything it for a year or more now. Hope it turns out to be good.

I'm pretty excited for 2008. Some games I'll definitely check out:

Soul Calibur IV
Grand Theft Auto IV
Turok
Devil May Cry 4
Ghostbusters
Iron Man
Indiana Jones
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Alan Wake (if it ever comes out)

Well, it happened...again! I've been playing Saint's Row (can't believe I waited this long to start that game..it's a lot of fun) and it was freezing up on me and shortly thereafter I got the red rings of death. This will now be my fifth time sending an XBOX 360 back to Microsoft. I figured the last XBOX would be okay (it's been working great for about a year), but alas all good things must come to an end.

I got quite a few 360 games I've need to playthrough, but I guess I can start Assassin's Creed now. Got that on the PS3 last week at the Best Buy sale.

I knew it looked funny when I typed it. All five with 360's, obviously.

I'm with you on not liking the demo. The sensation of speed seems to be done away substituting in a more realistic feel, but that sense of speed is what made Burnout 3 such an awesome game.

yeap, that's the source of my problem... the 1080's settings are not there when connecting to the Onkyo receiver. Perhaps i can do a factory reset and see what happens, but i'm not gonna do it, since i can have both 1080i and digital audio via component cable anyway (i don't want to set all the values again).

What really bugs me is that the PS3 is able to detect the 1080i setting from the Onkyo receiver, but not the X360 The receiver has two HDMI inputs and they are identical (i even switched the HDMI with the PS3 and still the X360 can't do 1080i, but yet, the PS3 is able to do it on the other HDMI port).

Anyhow, thanks all for the answers, live and learn...

Took me less time to find it on xbox.com than it did for you to type each of your rants.
thanks for the answer, but that doesn't really point out what i did wrong, only the work around...

i find that some of you really don't know much about the X360 hardware. I have a reason for my ignorance, i just got my X360, it's like two months, minus the RRoD time...

Anyhow, i won't be posting rants anymore (clapping your hands). I rather solve the problem on my own (i.e. google and CAG) and keep the knowledge for myself.

It's really not rocket science, sorry for the troubles...

It's not that people don't want to help but you came in acting like a dick so you got the responses you deserved. Next time try a cordial approach and the I'm sure the responses will be quite different.

if you consider using the optical output that is built into the cable as a "work around"... which is what you started your rant about.

"For ultimate sonic fidelity and the capacity to enjoy discrete, multichannel surround sound from select games and most DVD movies, you can take advantage of the cable's digital audio output using a Toslink optical digital audio cable (not included)."

In any case, glad to hear you got it figured out. As others have stated, I think you'll find the DVD Talk forums generally better than others, due to less noise and a generally more mature crowd. I hit CAG and some of the others for deals, but not for good conversation, like occurs here.

MC, look, i was really frustrated okay? it was not long ago i "recovered" from the RRoD problem and then the X360 decided not to let me have 1080i setting via HDMI through the Onkyo receiver. If the PS3 is giving me the same crap, i can understand. However, putting the two next to each other and the X360 just won't do 1080i for apparently no reasons, i just can't take it anymore...

If i have to ask again, it will be like this:

Why the fuck the X360 won't allow me set to 1080i through HDMI port #1 or #2 on the Onkyo receiver while the PS3 has no problem with it?

Look, i don't play favors, if the PS3 does the same shit, i'll post in the same matter in the PS3 thread (and probably get the same treatment, maybe slightly better, since a PS3 problem is like a challenge for the PS3 owners).

Geez, am i suppose to know that the X360 can't do 1080's on certain TVs and receivers via HDMI? And the record, i have the HT-R640 receiver.

Look, maybe that's the way i am okay? if something is not right, i speak it out. if it's my fault, i apologize, live and learn. My posts are not out of line for the record.

Yeah, getting the optical cable will give me digital audio, but at what cost?

1. $6 (no biggie)
2. One week for the cable to arrive (a little biggie)
3. No more dvd upscaling (big biggie)

Like i said, i still perfer the X360 connected via HDMI, but tough shit, it won't...

Do what I did: snap the plastic case off the component/composite AV pack. This will allow you to plug it in to expose the optical out and have an HDMI cable plugged in for video. There's a small tutorial out there somewhere with pics, but just stick a flat-head screwdriver in the crease on the side, twist and pop. Edit: here's the small tutorial: http://www.chadledford.com/?p=50

Or bite the bullet and buy this set, if only for the smaller audio breakout box that will work without guerrilla modding of your original cable: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...60hdmiavcable/

you could do that?! didn't know.... definitely good to know. i already kinda snapped the Wii's component cable (the audio jacks are too short for the receiver). Hmmm, i might just do that, thanks! Although it doesn't help me with the resolution problem over the HDMI cable.

Ocelot, will your 360 Display in 720p over HDMI? Assuming it will, coupled with your TV's native resolution of 1280x720, why would you be bothering with 1080i to begin with?

yeap, the X360 can display 720P over HDMI, no problem there... I want 1080i b/c when i was watching Planet Earth hd-dvd via the add-on, the 720P setting gives me a smaller screen (boxed in) on the 56" DLP. While on the 1080i settting, i get the full 56"... Of course, from the viewing angle/distant, 720P and 1080i PQ are pretty much same. Also, the boxed in version of Planet Earth via 720P, is not exactly in the center of the TV (not entirely bothersome, but it's annoying). Lastly, the boxed in version, the outlines are a bit "flashy," so if you're not really paying attention to the movie, that can be very distracting...

However, i don't have the boxed in problem when i play games (720P and 1080i display same)... so maybe it's only Planet Earth? I haven't try other hd-dvds...
