I am absolutely in love with this game. I have been playing for about 2 hours, now, and I can't believe how awesome this game is. There is one problem, however. I'm in the Loopdeloop Galaxy, where you have to do that darn Ray Surfing, and I can't do it for the life of me. I started with 15 lives, and got down to 11. I decided to reset the game, and go back, and see if I was any better. Big mistake. Even though I had 11 lives before I reset, when I went back to the Loopdeloop Galaxy, I only had 4 left. So now, not only can I not accomplish the Ray Surfing, but, I have far less lives to use! LOL!

Other than that, I have really been impressed. Awesome graphics, addictive gameplay, and it really feels like the true successor to Super Mario 64, but so much better!

This game makes me feel like a kid at Christmas, again. I feel just like I did the Christmas of 1985, when my Mom and Dad bought my Sister and I the Nintendo Entertainment System (with Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt and NES Zapper). That's how awesome this game is to me!

From all the listings I've seen, it only gets up to $40 when it's the coin AND Super Mario Galaxy... ;)

Really? I've never sold anything on eBay, but I have no use for this coin. Hmm..

Brent L 11-13-07 10:11 PM

A fluke, sure, but still:

Then two went for $24, and as recent as today one sold for $19.

I'm only 5 stars in and LOVE IT. I won't repeat what everyone else has said, but I must say the soundtrack is amazing.

I have this game, but with a heavy work schedule this week, I'm waiting to play until Friday. If I try before then, I won't get any sleep at all. :)

I also noticed that when I took a break from the game, shut it down, and came back, I only had a few lives. That's annoying. On the other hand, it's so easy to get lives by collecting star bits that I really shouldn't complain.

I'm 5 stars in and this game is awesome. I'm getting a bit of the motion sickness that I get with 1st person shooters... but it's nowhere near as bad and I'm sure that it will pass. I think it just has to do with the crazy gravity and camera angles. I'm in the bee world and thouroghly enjoying flying around as a bee, walking on the honeycomb walls, etc... I can't wait to get deeper into it, but alas it was time for good tv to start.

havent played much yet but great graphics, really suprised by them, the characters lok amazing. Great music. The only downside is when someone talks its so slow, you cant just press A right away.

UncleGramps 11-14-07 12:02 AM

I spent just about the entire evening playing this, ending up with 30 stars. The game is freakin' amazing.

MadonnasManOne 11-14-07 12:28 AM

Nintendo finally got around to launching the full website for Super Mario Galaxy.

I would be playing this right now, but my TRU didn't get the game today. Apparently a lot of the TRU stores on the west coast didn't get the game today, according to CAG, because of DHL issues.

So screw you guys.

Supermallet 11-14-07 12:49 AM

Spoiler:
The Sticky Pod Galaxy is a great place to get 999 star bits. There's a section where if you die, you respawn just outside of a mine field. Revolving around the mines are star bits. They reappear every time you die.

Is it pretty easy to get into I assume then? I never played Mario 64 for the most part, should I get this on the Wii and play that first?

I'll send you one if ya like, why bother with ebay?

Peter Skerritt 11-14-07 02:48 AM

Wow.

That's how I can sum up my first few hours with this game. The visuals are awesome, the music is a great mix of original tunes and interpretations of earlier Mario themes, the difficulty is just right... and I could go on and on.

I'm trying to finish this and get a review up by week's end, but I'll spoil a bit of that and tell you what you probably already know:

Super Mario Galaxy is undoubtedly one of the best Mario games ever produced and easily can be argued as the Wii's Game of the Year.

PixyJunket 11-14-07 06:50 AM

Yeah, this game is awesome. I had no expectations but holy crap.

Brent L 11-14-07 06:54 AM

The key to Ray Surfing is just to slow down a bit. The first time I tried it I kept presssing A, and that was the only time I died. Don't be afraid to slow down, take your time, and you'll still destroy the default top time.

spainlinx0 11-14-07 07:14 AM

What's the problem with Ray Surfing? I died only once. I never let go of the A button and my time is 1:02. The key for me was when I see the arrows I already start my turn and don't be afraid to turn that controller 90 degrees.

If you have played other 3D platformers before and are comfortable with them, you could jump right into Galaxy. For a gamer who's good at 3D platformers, Galaxy should be quite manageable, at least early in the game. There are optional galaxies in the game which will be a challenge for even expert players, but the game is good about giving you several stars to go after at any one time so that you won't be stuck trying the same part over and over. If you get frustrated, you can just hop to another galaxy and try for a different star.

This game definitely has more in common with Mario 64 than Mario Sunshine did, so it might be a good idea to check out Mario 64 prior to playing Galaxy, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary.

UncleGramps 11-14-07 08:15 AM

Another tip for Ray Surfing, in addition to laying off the A button now and then: don't always use large twisting motions. The controls are fairly sensitive, and sometimes all you need is a slight tilt. I died twice before finishing the level, so there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's not too tough when you get the hang of it.

Groucho 11-14-07 08:19 AM

Played this a little last...very impressive game that takes 3D platforming to the next level. This is the first game on the Wii that truly feels "next generation" to me.

MadonnasManOne 11-14-07 08:40 AM

Yes, the Ray Surfing can be a bit tough. However, I found the best way to do it was using very slight motions, and laying off the A button when you get ready to turn. It took me a while to get it down, last night, but, I finally accomplished it. I had the same issue with the Ball Rolling stage (I can't remember the name), but, finally just went with the slight motions approach, and breezed through it.

Kenny Lofton must have been traded to somewhere on the west coast.
