I don't know. I used to rely on tattoos, but my world has since been shattered.

I agree, the downloading speed should be as fast as possible for gold members, I really hope they don't add a new tier on top of gold.

I also don't think gold members (or silver members) should be charged for themes and gamerpics, which are essentially advertising for some movie/game, and gold members shouldn't have giant ads over the themes and backgrounds they have downloaded.

PixyJunket 09-19-07 02:32 PM

The ads suck, especially since they are so far removed from targeting me. If I'm getting slammed with ads for paying $50 a year, can they at least be dynamic? There's plenty of areas they can pull from, download history, played games list, etc. I mean, do I need to see Halo 3 ads at every corner if I've got zero FPS games in my played games list? If I've recently played Enchanted Arms and Blue Dragon wouldn't flashing "Eternal Sonata in 5 Days!" make more sense? And Family Guy.. wow. They could at least take my age at find something a little more appropriate.

Canis Firebrand 09-19-07 02:35 PM

How is seeing a pic of a game in the main dashboard blade and a image in the background of the marketplace blade being slammed with ads? It isn't that intrusive and like it or not, Halo 3 is the game that the majority of 360 owners are looking forward to. It makes sense that they would therefore feature pics and ads for the game.

I would like it if the ads were, as you said, targeted or if as a gold member, I could opt to not see them. But, it isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

xmiyux 09-19-07 03:01 PM

They can put whatever ad they want on the Marketplace blade. My themes don't touch that blade. They do however, need to take the bloody ads off of my blades where i paid for a theme and now can't see the whole thing.

That aggravates me.

I would however, pay more for a service that would guarantee me i was only interacting with gamers 18+. Hell, i might even prefer 21+

Do you need Gold to play games online?

Was your system a refurb? What did you say to the CSR? How many different people did you have to talk to about it?

I just told them the truth: I had the system for about four hours before I had video problems. I took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a different one. Unfortunately, I had already purchased a few XBLA titles, so they were tied to the four-hour console rather than the good one.

I had to make a few calls before they agreed to do the transfer. The first time, I had to re-download the titles a few times while they were on the phone with me. Then he told me that they are having "system updates" and that I need to wait 24 hours and try again. I did, and it still failed. I called back, had to jump through the same re-download hoops, and eventually got transferred to someone in the US :jawdrop:

He had me fax in a copy of my receipt and my exchange receipt. I've called a number of times in the three weeks since, but still can't get any more information, and can't ever seem to be transferred to the people in the US again.

Dear Ferris,

I know that the above was just a joke, but I find it really upsetting. I thought the ending of Halo 2 was perfect and provided an excellent and satisfying conclusion to this remarkable adventure series. The tone was clearly set and the ending should stand on its own merits as the ideal conclusion of a masterpiece.

Sincerely yours,
David Chase

I never thought of that way but you make a great point. NOT having ads should be a perk of friggin PAYING!!!

Let the ads help make up revenue for the Non-paying Silver Members.

I was trying to have a video chat with someone on a PC with a webcam from my Xbox 360 using the vision camera. It appears that you can only do text based from the xbox 360. When the person on the PC tried to invite me to a video chat, I would never see the invite. All text based messages go through perfectly. Is there anyway to do video chat from the Xbox to a PC and vice versa?

Anyone using the madcatz Component cables with their Wii and/or 360? I bought a new TV to keep at the GF placesince I'm there 60% to play Halo3 and watch HD movies on. I plan on takeing the 360 and Wii between my place and her's, but new tv only has 1 component input. I was thinking of buying those cables to try instead of the hassle of unhooking the cables each time and just leave the ones hooked up at my place. The new tv has 2 HDMI inputs, but I can't find a buyer for my older 360 to get one with a HDMI port. I'm short on cash to justfy that new 360 since were expecting a child in April, TV no problem since she doesn't own a HDTV.

The top entry on Major Nelson's RSS is entitled "Xbox 360 System Update". I can't get it to load, but here's the link anyway: http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Major...tember-07.aspx

Maybe I'll have to retract my earlier statement.

Right, which is why, if it came out today, I'd have to retract my earlier statement being that it is still Summer and all.

But, moot anyway - I stand vindicated: http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/09...re-move-along/

Major Nelson has informed us that a 360 system update is being released today. He also -- somewhat depressingly -- informs us that today's update is not the Fall Update. Actually, that seems rather fitting as, unless we are mistaken, it is not yet fall. So, what in the world does this magical update do? Quite simple really, it adds support for the spiffy new controller that comes with Scene-It. The controller with the giant, candy colored button, remember? Yeah, that one. Anywho, the update is being rolled out now so that the Microsoft ninjas have a chance to test out the device on retail Xboxen. You know, to see if they explode or something. So, don't panic -- and don't get excited either -- when you're prompted to download the update the next time you log into live.

PixyJunket 09-20-07 02:12 PM

Dammit. There's a Castle Shikigami III theme on Live, only in Japan. :(

I thought you had a Japanese live account for such emergencies...?

I do, but I don't have Japanese marketplace points!

pinata242 09-20-07 02:31 PM

Suck. I had no idea that points weren't universal currency. I thought that was the "point".

Now why isn't this shit on the game disc? Why do roughly 9.5 million people need this update when only a couple hundred thousand will buy the game? And this is the second update in a month now, with the Fall update around the corner. What is this, the PS3?

Problem with that is that there are probably an equal number of 18 year old douchebags as there are twelve year olds. Same with 21. I think you'd have to hit 30 before you start weeding out the dickheads altogether.
