I guess i should remember the points i have accumulated were 50% off so that reduces the cost of the game. I only have like 5k points left though.

I just don't like to see the cost of Arcade games creep up past the 10$ mark - especially when there is no physical media or transferability. Doubly so when there is that whole garbage about needing to be logged in to play Arcade games on a refurb unit.

argh923 09-18-07 06:17 PM

Someone on CAG is claiming that they CAN transfer the rights to XBLA games from one system to another.

I got another refurb recently after I had back to back failures. The 1st one allowed me to play all my games offline after deleting them all and redownloading them. This new one however is not so nice and will not allow any of them to be played unless logged in. Unfortunately Streets of Rage 2 is just ed up in general and requires I start the game, then unlock it, and redownload it every single time I want to play it. It refuses to stay unlocked even while I'm logged in. Someone from Microcock should be calling me today about putting in an order to transfer the licenses to the new refurb. They specifically told me the 5 times I've called about this bs that they no longer refund out points even if you got your system replaced. Talk about bullshit!

:edit:
I forgot to mention they told me it takes about 1 month to process the request to have your digital content licenses transfered.

Liver&Onions 09-18-07 06:51 PM

He sounds like a very clever guy. Microcock. Wow. Good stuff.

argh923 09-18-07 06:57 PM

Well, yeah...he's obviously about 10-11 years old. I'm more referring to the fact that apparently they're working on some way to fix this issue.

Michael Corvin 09-18-07 07:07 PM

I'm so glad we don't have that problem here.

Jeremy517 09-18-07 07:13 PM

They're supposedly working on transferring mine. It has been about three weeks so far. Last time I called, they told me "72 more hours". That was about a week and a half ago...

Schloob1 09-19-07 12:34 AM

Alright, probably a silly question but it is coming time to renew my Gold membership. When I see the subscription cards at Best Buy etc. it does not say anything about not being able to just use it to extend my current membership but when I notice the same cards on Ebay it claims they are only good for "new" accounts and not to extend the current one I have. Which is correct, or am I stuck just paying through Live my $49.99? Thanks

Raul3 09-19-07 12:39 AM

You need the one from Best Buy (or any other store, they are on sale sometimes in Amazon and other places). You can renew with those. Last year i renewed with one from Amazon, I think it was $35.
The ones in Ebay are scams most of the time.

Decker 09-19-07 01:08 AM

Per CAG, the 13 month limited-edition Halo 3 Live renewal card will be $39.99 at Circuit City starting Sunday. Pick that up instead.

DaveWadding 09-19-07 02:01 AM

or try Buy.com with GCO. $32.99 no tax or shipping.

Can you give me a rundown of how you went about doing this?

Was your system a refurb? What did you say to the CSR? How many different people did you have to talk to about it?

If it's me, and they say 72 hours, and 4 days go by without a solution, I'm right back on the phone, annoying the shit out of them. :)

I'm upgrading to an Elite in a couple of weeks, so I'm curious as to what you did that got them to do this for you.

I just read up on this yesterday by someone else who got scammed on ebay. There are two different types of Live cards. There are the ones you buy at Best Buy and the like that come in the big plastic bubble, and then there are the ones that you can get at WalMart that are just the card. As the ones at WalMart are smaller, they would be easier to pocket by shady individuals, so they have an activation process that has to be done at the register, much like a phone card.

What is being sold on ebay are inactivated cards most of the time. There are no cards that are for "new accounts only". When you try their code and it doesn't work, they tell you to make a new account and it will work. New accounts get one month free, so when they make the new account, they'll see that they are Gold, and leave good feedback. Then in a month's time, they'll dump back to Silver and not really have an out.

If only BB had come current GGC coupons, then we'd save another $5.

GCO? What does this stand for, because I do it see ot for $42.99 is their some kind of code out now for $10 off then? Thanks

pinata242 09-19-07 08:24 AM

GCO = Google Check-Out. Get yourself a gmail account, give google your CC and shipping info and let them broker the transaction for you and they pay $10 of your bill. They take $X from your account and give buy.com $(X+10).

Schloob1 09-19-07 09:12 AM

Thanks guys, just ordered it. Had to use my work e-mail since I already did that google checkout first time deal on my own e-mail last holiday season.

Tried the Geon demo this morning and was not impressed. It's basically Pac-man minus the ghosts, with multiple powerups. But all you do is collect all the dots on your side of the two-sided world, then flip to your opponent's side and go to his goal to score a point. That's it. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seemed overly simplistic and not worth 800 points, even with all of the half-price points I got a while back.

This morning, developer Hudson announced a second Bomberman Live expansion called the Bomb-up Pack 2 and is set for a September 26th release onto the XBLM.

Just like the first Bomberman expansion pack, Bomb-up 2 will cost a semi-cheap 250 Microsoft points and include ten new characters including Destructoid's mascot, Bomberella and El Bombito, as well as two new arenas (Medieval Times and Full Tilt) and a new gametype mode called Bomb Shelter in which players can hide in specific areas staying safe from explosions. The expansion pack will also add two new leaderboards into the mix for those who are all about proving their worth.

There's no doubt about it, Bomberman Live is a great Xbox Live experience and a fantastic multiplayer game and the Bomb-up Pack 2 expansion pack can only make the good times continue longer. We always welcome new DLC, but are always watching for the cost versus content proposition and this Bomberman expansion looks to be well worth it. Bomberman go!

So, does everyone have to buy the new maps to play a match or just the host, ala Uno?

Edison 09-19-07 11:08 AM

Did anyone else take the marketplace survey that was way down at the bottom of that marketplace newsletter (fall 2007) that came out yesterday? It seems like they want to know if we're willing to pay (even more) money to get marketplace downloads faster.

Questions included:

Would you consider buying a service that allows downloading Xbox LIVE Marketplace content faster than your current experience?

What is the maximum monthly subscription fee you would consider paying for a faster download service on Xbox LIVE Marketplace?

What is the maximum you would be willing to pay per download for a service that allows faster downloading on Xbox LIVE Marketplace than your current experience?
I have no gripes with paying the normal yearly fee for the LIVE service, and have ever since the original Xbox. As it is though I don't think there is enough perks for Gold members (diamond card, infrequent early downloads for demos) over Silver members. Since Silver can access the marketplace content wouldn't it make more since to add this 'free' to the Gold member (that's already paying a premium) and throttle the bandwidth to Silver members?

Phuzbox 09-19-07 12:57 PM

How is the Xbox wireless headset? I was considering picking one up during the TRU sale but wanted to know what you guys thought of it. Thanks in advance.

Gold members definitely need more perks for the price we pay. Another thing is to lose all the ads for Gold members. More early demos would be nice, and all the free content (themes, gamerpics, even games) should only be accessible to Gold members.

Fuck the non-paying Silver losers. :)

pinata242 09-19-07 01:14 PM

Bandwidth throttling, imo, should only be applied to Silver members if and only if there is a direct impact to Gold members - particularly online play. Navigating and downloading are secondary. Other than that, it's just a ploy to get more money out of Silver members for no reason.

I agree that I shouldn't have to see ads in my console - especially not a giant Halo 3 image as my marketplace background.

How else would you know Halo 3 was coming out?
