Awesome, I'll go ahead and pick it up and play the games in order. Thanks for the heads up!

How the F do you beat the first big daddy on Survivor difficulty? He basically pounds you into dust with one hit and my weapons do very little damage. I need to finish the game on this mode to get the platinum.

1. Start off with an attack (like Electric Shock)
2. ?
3. Deafeat Big Daddy

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I wait to take on the Big Daddies until about halfway through the game, when I have upgraded my weapons, piled up more ammo, and found a few tonics. Then I backtrack and take out all the ones I missed. The disadvantage to that approach is that taking out Big Daddies is the only way to accumulate ADAM, so you can't buy plasmids/tonics/slots until you start killing Big Daddies.

I usually feel ready to start taking on Big Daddies around the

Farmer's Market

level.

The best weapon for taking out Big Daddies is
Spoiler:
the chemical thrower with electric gel. It paralyzes them while it sucks the life out of them.

Also, use Rapture security to your advantage. If you can lure a Big Daddy near a camera or a turret, you'll get the added fire-power of the security system plus the Big Daddy will concentrate on the bot/turret before he turns to you.

Thanks for the reply on how to kill him. Can I bypass the first one as it seems that killing him is a prerequisite to moving on to the second section of the game.

It's been a while since I played, but I'm pretty sure you can skip any Big Daddies you have to fight.

Can't you just spam the Vita-Chambers over and over and over until he's dead?

Edit: Oh, shit, I thought this was the Bioshock 2 thread So you do need to stay alive during that fight. Been way too long for me to remember the specifics of that too. Can you give us more information to refresh our memories?

Here is a video (only on medium difficulty) with some different methods you can try. Go to the youtube page and read the description for more info.

I blasted his ass without any problem on the easier mode but the survivor mode is a whole other animal and he turns out to be a raging cocksucker with a one hit kill.

I still remember my first Big Daddy fight. *sigh* If only I could experience that for the first time again.

There is not much to experience. It's like one stroke done and I'm out cold.

Re: Bioshock is out - Let's Discuss!

I was finally able to finish this game off tonight on survivor difficulty and without using vita chambers after inching my way through it and saving hundreds of times. I'm so glad that I'm done with it and have banked the platinum as that was one of the most stressful times that I have ever had with a video game.

I'm going to be taking on this challenge pretty soon. I didn't have much of a problem getting through the game on normal difficulty without using chambers, but survivor should be a whole different animal.

It is and you better save your game everytime you hack and get a kill or two. You will also need to make sure you keep 9 first aid kits with at all times. Good luck! I normally don't play this level of difficulty on a game but decided to do it and it was one of the most stressful gaming experiences in my life.

Re: Bioshock is out - Let's Discuss!

Finally beat this on the medium setting after casually playing off and on for about a year. Got really repetitive towards the end and the finale was a bit anticlimactic, but loved how involving the story was and the variety of levels. Hugely satisfying knocking out 200 achievement points (for beating the game and saving all of the Little Sisters) in one shot.

Got 800/1100 achievement points on the first play-thru and might start up another game on easy to pick up some of the simpler achievements I missed along the way (like fully researching a Bouncer).

Would have tackled the game on Hard had I known about the 100 point Vita-Chamber achievement.

Now, on to my still-unopened COD:MW2.

I'd rate the game /

2 year bump, but Bioshock (PC version) is free today (11/8/12) if you download the GameFly PC client and provide a credit card.

Can't believe the first game was so popular in this forum.

Re: Bioshock is out - Let's Discuss!

i got an email yesterday that thanked me for downloading the free Bioshock and gave me a code for 75% off Bioshock 2 which makes the game $5.

I decided to get it, it does say in the requirements "windows 7" so hopefully I won't run into any trouble. I still can't get Bioshock 1 to work. I have tried everything i can find on the web. It was free, but I am still upset over it.

BioShock worked fine on my W7 box, there's something else wrong. It doesn't seem like an uncommon problem and there appears to be some fixes for it.

Why's that? There weren't a lot of original IPs at the time, it's the spiritual successor to System Shock, is a highly rated game. Not that shocking.

you are certainly one of the lucky ones then. i have tried most fixes that I don't think are too complicated. i am not the most computer savvy, so somethings really baffle me. i don't want to screw the rest of my computer up just to get this game to work.

Bioshock on my laptop will load up to the title screen, after i select new game and the difficulty desired it goes to a black screen and that is all she wrote. Lots of folks can play the game, but the sound doesn't work. I can't even play the game so i don't know if the sound works or not. it works on the title menu.

Can anyone here just come over to my house and fix it for me?

I can. The atmosphere created around the story's setting and ideology still remains one of my favorites, and it plays rather well, too.

Toss in the tonics, moral decisions and twist ending and you have a recipe for one of this generations best.

What an odd statement. This game was hyped big time when it came out; hell it is one of the reasons I bought the xbox360. I take it you didn't like it to make that post. To each their own...
