No, I knew that...some games (Half-Life 2 for instance) have a save system where you don't even have to access the menu...just hold the start button for a few seconds.

Just wondering if Bioshock had something similar. Will check the manaul when I get home.

I see. I haven't heard about that in a console.

Per the manual....

"Save...Saves your game progress at the current point. Note that you can save anywhere at anytime. The game will also autosave after loading an area

When I watched the demo on XPlay that was one of the cooler features. That way you could play a scene, try some of the Plasmids or Weapons. Stop play, reload the same scene and try something else.

See that nonsense after the "v=" in the URL? That's the video ID. Put that between the [yt ][ /yt] tags (no spaces) and you'll YouTube-fy it.

Why are we taking a step backwards? The iTouch is not a gaming console IMO. Reminds me of my shitty N-Gage gaphics. A PSP version would rock though. This version, not so much.

Re: Bioshock is out - Let's Discuss!

So I finally finished Bioshock! Overall, it was an amazingly polished and atmospheric shooter, though I can't say that I enjoyed the end that much. An escort mission and a Ridley fight seemed like an odd fit. Still, it's easily a AAA game and is probably my third favorite first person adventure game behind the Metroid and Half-Life series. I'm even looking forward to hearing what folks think of Bioshock 2, and I'll probably pick it up when the price drops.

Once I finished Bioshock, I jumped into the first hour or so of Dead Space...another fairly atmospheric shooter, and I've gotta say, I'm pretty impressed.

What's the scoop on the Bioshock DLC? What is it, and is it worth $10?

Dead Space is really great.

Bioshock DLC was PS3 exclusive, so I don't know how many people have played that. But I've read that you are fine playing only the game, you won't miss anything important with the DLC.

I'll look into it, but I can't really picture me paying $10 for a couple of "missions". I guess most folks played this on the 360 or PC.

I'm on my 2nd playthrough. I was evil the first time. Bioshock is my all time favorite game after Starcraft. The world is just so rich and layered that you can play it over and over and discover something new. I love how they replicated art deco in everything, and even the commercials sound like they are from that era. Never really watched Spider splicers crawling on the ceiling until last night which looks amazing.

Bioshock 2 sounds even more amazing as you are stalked throughout the game by a Big Sister. The multiplayer will take you to the days when Rapture was being built. It just sucks that we now have to wait until November to play it!

If you have a pretty good sound system with a decent sub...yea, the sound on this kicks serious booty with a bit of errie creepyness.

I'm playing it through again, too ... going for the Brass Balls achievement ... need all the audio diaries, too ... haven't touched this game since October 2007 ... anywho, I almost forgot how beautiful this game really is ... this time around, I'm admiring everything at a much slower pace ... taking my time ... man, what an awesome, one-of-a-kind experience

Re: Bioshock is out - Let's Discuss!

Just started playing this (PS3) last night. Got to the first "Big Daddy" fight in the Medical Foyer and got my butt handed to me a couple of times. It was already 3:00am so I gave up and quit for the night. My problem is, when I start back there, I'm going to have no first aid kits or EVE replenishers and I got my butt kicked with full of both. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

One thing I realized why I always suck at games like this, whenever the action heats up and I have to react quickly, I always end up crouched and aiming. I can't help but push those analog stick in.

It's one of the problems I've always had with the Dual Shock layout.

I'm the same with the sticks. In COD4 I have probably air stabbed 1000x whenever an opponent suddenly comes into view. As for the Big daddy fight, do you not have a save just before it? I generally saved before engaging them so I could reload if I used up my ammo/eve/health. Cheap, I know. The first one definitely destroyed me a number of times (plus I started on hard) but as the game progresses they get almost too easy. Basically your options for taking them down expand a lot so don't worry about it being this difficult the whole way through. For me the first one involved a lot of retreating. Later on you get to be more creative in how you deal with them.

Go towards the back of the medical foyer where there are two stair cases going down to the second level. Just run up down and around the stairs to use them as cover.

don't you respawn at one of those chambers while the Big Daddy health keeps going down?

Yeah, if necessary just keep running up and smacking him with a wrench.

This is pretty much the way I did it. The Big Daddy was stuck and couldn't get through the doorway at the top of the stairs, I'd just wait till he calmed down then freeze and smack him with my wrench a couple times and run back through the door. Took forever but it worked.

Re: Bioshock is out - Let's Discuss!

Thanks for all the advice. As far as saving it before I got to him, well - I didn't know he was coming up. I had just finished one boss (the surgeon) so I figured there'd be a "level end" or an auto save or something coming up when I got back to the main room. Then there he was. I thought for sure I'd kick his ass with all my health and stuff. It's good to know that he doesn't start out at full strength everytime I die. Whew.

Don't feel bad that you struggled there. That fight is actually the hardest part of the game.

I think the Rosie battles were much harder than the first Big Daddy. That first guy just rushes you. The Rosie's shoot the fucking rivot gun at you and it does massive damage.

Re: Bioshock is out - Let's Discuss!

I played the game on easy so the Big Daddy's were comically weak. I might go back through and play through on a harder level, but I was more interested in the story than in the FPS action.
