Spoiler:
1. Take a Bathysphere to Point Prometheus
2. Go through the door to the Proving Grounds
3. Go through the Proving Grounds (this is the path the Little Sister escorted you through).

Or just follow the word "Goal" on your map.

I got it, thanks. It took me forever to find the Proving Grounds, I finally found it by looking at the mats.

BravesMG 08-27-07 09:40 PM

Wow, I harvested maybe 5 (??? maybe even less) little sisters and still got the evil ending. That was quite surprising, but good for me. It gives me a reason to play through again on hard and get the other ending.

UncleGramps 08-28-07 09:39 AM

Just finished the game last night, taking the "good" path. I didn't use any guides or FAQs or read any spoilers, so it was pretty satisfying to see the story unfold. I do have a minor complaint in that department, though. (Major spoilers about the end of the game below!)
Spoiler:
I felt like the plot peaked a bit early, right after the confrontation with Ryan where he reveals your past and the brainwashing and you learn the true identity of Atlas. While you do get a few interesting tidbits after that, I sort of expected a little more in the way of revelations or plot details between that point and the end of the game. I also felt like the final confrontation was a bit cliche, with the superpowered, hopped-up-on-Adam version of Fontaine. I guess it fits the story, but it seemed very conventional for an otherwise unconventional game. Compare that to Sander Cohen, a "boss" character you don't even have to fight at all. And after all your hard work, when you beat the game, you get a really short ending cutscene and then you just get abruptly booted back to the menu. It left a bad taste in my mouth after 15 or 20 hours of great gameplay and atmosphere. At least roll some credits or something! However, the actual ending cutscene was pretty touching, with a nice play on the Big Daddy/Little Sister motif, minus the creepiness. :)

Because of those complaints and a lack of real challenge (due to the fact that you can pretty much die with no penalty), I don't agree with the perfect reviews I've seen. With that said, it's still one of the best games I've played in a very long time, and despite a few issues, the presentation, plot, and atmosphere are incredible and the world is fully realized. I wish more game developers would put this much thought into their storylines, characters and environments. It makes for a very immersive and very satisfying experience.

Now that I've finished the game, I'm going back with some guides to get the weapon upgrades, audio diaries, and tonics that I missed. At some point down the road I'll probably revisit the game and try to play through on the hard setting.

Canis Firebrand 08-28-07 10:13 AM

Phew.. I spent last night getting all the remaining audio diaries.

Once I checked the list of them all and the ones I had, I missed a couple in each section. I had gotten all of them in the last section before the end fight.
So, I went back and got them all last night.

I don't think I'm going to get all the tonics this run. I have 0 Adam to spend and 1 tonic at the Garden left to buy.

FantasticVSDoom 08-28-07 11:42 AM

Well, I accidently harvest one of the sisters so Im guessing I'll get the Evil finish, but we'll see...

I can't verify this, but I've seen posts here and on other boards indicating that harvesting only one Little Sister will still get you the good ending. I think two or more will get you the evil ending.

So I take it that you were not missing any of those audio diaries that Flay listed earlier as having to be retrieved the first time around, or else they wouldn't be there? It sucks, because I missed a couple, and I really don't want to restart yet another game.

movieking 08-28-07 01:26 PM

I was always wondering how to get some things like under vents and behind doors, and it never once occurred to be to use Telekinesis. I barely used it the first go around, but now that I've used it more, it's pretty awesome.

They should have had "Kill A Man With His Own Hat - Chuck Norris Achievement".

Same here. I was trying to reload my weapon, but I was too close to the Little Sister, so I accidentally harvested her instead of saving her. It had been awhile since I saved, and I didn't want to redo everything, so I just continued.

I'm not particularly far into the game yet, but Telekinesis is my favorite so far. Throwing grenades back at enemies and picking up power ups = the win.

Agreed. It's also fun to chuck the fuel barrels and gas cylinders at the enemies, or hold a body in front of you to shield yourself from certain traps and attacks. Telekinesis is probably my favorite plasmid in the whole game.

I stopped using it for killing after awhile. You can pick up a body and throw it at an enemy and kill almost every one first hit (big daddies dont budge). You are shielded from most bullets too. It also drains very minimal power. It feels cheap to me, and made the game a bit to easy. Just something to think about during later stages of them game.

One of my favorite things in this game is hearing the sound of a security bot or turret going off in another room, knowing that they are the machines I hacked taking out splicers that would otherwise be trying to ambush me. :) I actually get a little sad when I see one of my hacked bots has been destroyed, though.

For some reason that always reminds me of Crusader: No Remorse. Not sure why exactly. But man do I love the hacked stuff in the game :) (Do agree, hacking itself gets old).

I primarily used it against the nitro splicers, or when there was an explosive item nearby. I did notice that it didn't use much Eve, so I guess it would be cheap to use it all the time. Fortunately they made enough of the plasmids fun to use that I think it would be boring to stick with just one of them.

No, luckily I wasn't missing any of those. I found a ton of audio diaries on my own while playing the game.

Now that I am at the get everything you want before the final part of the game where you can't go back, I had to look at the list of ones I had. I missed about 2-3 in each section. I am glad they weren't the ones you can't get back into if you didn't get them the first time. So, I have them all now and my 50 point achievement.

The Bus 08-28-07 09:50 PM

I feel like this game peaked too early. Once I

Spoiler:

killed Ryan, the rest felt anti-climactic.

Here's what I would have loved:

Spoiler:

When you get to Ryan, you have the choice to kill him or not. If you kill him, the game continues as usual. If you don't, he tells you who Atlas really is (or who he thinks it might be, if he harbors suspicions). Then you can take down Atlas if you convince him to not blow up Rapture. Or, you both agree that blowing up Rapture is best. I always liked the multiple endings of Maniac Mansion and that last choice would've been a cool nod.

Canis Firebrand 08-28-07 09:56 PM

Well, I finished the game and am missing 4 of the achievements. I'll see if I can get them an another play through on hard.

I loved the game, but the ending and final battle was a bit meh. Oh well... Looking forward to seeing what the "evil" ending is like.

The ending was definitely a letdown. Not much of a fight to cap off a great game.

glasschicken 08-29-07 10:10 AM

Haven't gotten too far in the game yet, but is there a way to resque a little sister without having to fight the big daddy? Whenever I try they get really pissed and get ready to attack. After I beat them I then get the option to harvest or resque. Is that how it's supposed to work? I was under the impression that if you didn't want to fight them you didn't have to.

Michael Corvin 08-29-07 10:20 AM

Gotta fight to get to the little sister.

Wow, I thought the exact same thing.
Spoiler:
I was happy to get more gameplay, but Ryan was built up as this larger than life figure where Fontaine just seemed like some two-bit punk. Plus even the level design was generally duller in the second part... it lacked a lot of the sense of wonder and beauty of the first half and it felt more standard FPS environments.

timewaster 08-29-07 11:05 AM

when you buy plasma/tonics, is there a way to tell if the item is a plasma or the type of tonic (physical,combat..) before buying?

A-aron 08-29-07 11:22 AM

ok .. need a few tips on taking down the Big Daddy .. I'm heading into the wharff and want to take on the first one I come to, but he beats me down quicker than anything .. some spoilered help, please :)
