The demo is pretty much the full opening, although things like the location of the fire plasmids are different. If you enjoyed the demo, it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Another glowing review by some of the toughest critics on the net, Eurogamers.

Now that is an amazing score to get from them. At this point, I'm expecting to see a 9.9 from IGN and a 9.6 from GameSpot.

The more I read about this, the more I can't wait for next week.

Michael Corvin 08-16-07 06:57 AM

I am having terrible framerate issues. I'm up to the medical wing and the game stutters, a lot. Anyone else having this issue? I don't recall having that problem in the demo.

PixyJunket 08-16-07 07:44 AM

No dice for me, the guy had literally just printed up a company wide eMail telling them to stop selling the game (he even let me see it) just minutes before I had gotten there. On the plus side, they had Tomb Raider Legend for $20, which I had been looking for cheap. On the minus side, I then realized I had completely forgotten that I had that 20% off coupon in my pocket as I pulled up to my home.

Oh well, looks like I'll be waiting for a while to play Bioshocks.

Michael Corvin 08-16-07 08:00 AM

Legend will keep you busy for a few days.

Framerate limit turned on or off?

Kind of odd, I had a buddy who was playing it most of yesterday and commented it was silky smooth.

PixyJunket 08-16-07 08:08 AM

Yeah, if I can keep myself away from Wartech long enough to try it.

The Bus 08-16-07 08:09 AM

I stopped playing the demo as soon as I got into the building. I was already scared.

I can watch scary movies but scary video games really freak me out. I have to play them in the daytime. :o

Canis Firebrand 08-16-07 08:10 AM

I didn't play the demo. I am a little way into the game and so far, I am really enjoying it.

The story comes out to you in signs and things in the environment so you don't really need to be spoon fed the story. Sure, you get parts told to you ,etc. But you can gather what happened by looking around.

I'm really glad that I was able to get this, and early to boot. I was about 90% ready to pull the trigger on a full $60 purchase. But, for $30 and 6 days early, it was a no brainer. I'm glad my madden sold for what I paid for it.

And the game has indeed had some scary moments where you kind of jump a little. Not in the sense that Condemned had, that was much scarier to play though. But this game makes full use of the creepiness factor in lighting, or lack of, and movement or voices of enemies in your area that you can't always see right away.

Hmm. I haven't messed with it. I'll have to check it out though.

Canis Firebrand 08-16-07 08:19 AM

I haven't touched the framerate or any or any other settings. I didn't notice any weirdness with the picture. Everything seemed to move and flow well.

The reviews I have read have not mentioned framerate problems. Could it be a sign of a dying 360?

Me too, I haven't changed any settings and haven't noticed any slowdown.

Me too. Sad thing is I think this started with Alone in the Dark and Phantasmagoria for the Mac years ago. I can't imagine how such terribly blocky pixels would've scared me at all, but I was freaked out nonetheless.

Well, hopefully I can take advantage of the longer daylight hours with Bioshock. :)

Oh man, Phantasmagoria, that brings back memories.

Also cracks me up that the guy that played the housekeepers mentally retarded son is on Grey's Anatomy these days.

kurupt 08-16-07 09:18 AM

Called Toys R Us last night and I was told they just received it. So hopefully they'll still have it today and I guess I'll do the Madden deal.

360s don't take too kindly to owners that buy other consoles. -poke-

There is a locked door in the medical wing that says it requires the 'chompers dental key' where is it? I've been all the way through the medical wing, and onto the 'second' level and even went back to the medical wing and still can't find it.

Here is your answer.

Spoiler:
The key is in the room you want to go in. You have to use telekinesis to get it.

My game runs as smooth as butter. Go to the option screen and adjust your frame rate. You will take a hit in graphics, but it should help your stuttering problem.

PixyJunket 08-16-07 10:13 AM

Console games with frame rate and graphics settings = :(.

Sorry i don't know how to do that spoiler tag.

Just put (SPOILER) at the beginning of the text and (/SPOILER) at the end, only with [ and ] instead of ( and ). :)

I'll check the settings later. Something has to be up. Hopefully my 360 isn't dying again.

So below are pics of the actual Gamestop exclusive.

The previous pictures were of the mock-up made to have fans vote on their top 3 most wanted items from that batch of stuff pictured. The Big Daddy figure, the making-of dvd and the soundtrack won out over the others. I would've picked the steel-case over either the dvd or the soundtrack...

But they did put the artbook in a PDF file for people to see and/or print out, since it's pretty nice:

I played a part of the demo, but don't think I finished it. How long is it actually? Being a casual gamer, I don't normally buy FPS since they require too much time ( I play in short bursts, so sports, racing, fighters, shooters, are more my thing). I might make an exception for this game as I have for halo, gears of war, and resistance, due all the ratings and positive feedback. I really like the feature that points you in the right direction. IMHO this should be in every FPS as it really appeals to me as a casual gamer.
