I would also assume like weapons, you will settle into your favorite plasmids, and probably will only skim the surface of most of them.

Supermallet 08-15-07 12:56 PM

Okay, so I woke myself up at 10 (went to bed at 7) and called TRU, asking if they had Bioshock. The girl said yes, but they only got 6, and 1 had already been sold. I asked if they could hold one for half an hour and I would be right there. She asked some guy next to her and he said no, it was first come, first serve.

So I go to print out the 20% coupon and my printer is out of ink. I angrily switch the ink as fast as I can, print out the coupon, and rush out of there. Run into TRU, see copies left, ask for one. I ask if the deal with Madden is going on. The lady, the one I spoke to one the phone, asked her boss, the guy who wouldn't hold the game, if it's still going on. He says yes. She rings them up. I hand them the 20% coupon. The assistant manager, whose name is Greg, goes, "Woah, woah, woah. This coupon isn't valid with other Toys R Us promotions." I tell him I've talked to people all across the country who have used it, and can provide pictures of receipts to prove it. He tells me that he doesn't care what other people are doing, but it says not valid with other offers, and he refuses to let me use the coupon. So I buy the two anyway (I mean, Bioshock is still only $30 at this point) and stomp out, talking loudly about "snotty assistant managers" as I go. I get out, look at the receipt, and there's nothing on the receipt about having to return both items together or anything like that, so in a day or two I'll just return Madden for the full value and keep my $30 Bioshock. I'm also going to stop by the Gamestop I used to manage and tell the new manager to call this hotline they have for reporting street date breaks, specifically to report that assistant manager Greg at TRU broke street date on Bioshock. I may also call to complain to the manager, just to tell him that I understand that TRU has procedures it has to follow, but this guy's customer service was so bad that I may not ever shop there again, etc. etc.

So, anyway, I got Bioshock, but had to pay full price for Madden to do it. YMMV.

Edit: For people in L.A., this was the TRU on La Cienega and Sawtelle. If you go there, don't try to use the coupon. Greg's gonna get you if you try!

Michael Corvin 08-15-07 01:04 PM

I can see you being angry, buy why report a potential source of future early releases?

Supermallet 08-15-07 01:05 PM

Hmm, good point. I will just complain to the store manager about the piss poor attitude displayed by their assistant manager.

KurrptSenate 08-15-07 01:08 PM

just to get the guy in trouble, apparently

I mean, you could get offended for breaking street dates, but buying a copy for yourself then reporting the store is a "dick maneuver" in my book :/

For bioshock, i don't think there is any restriction on when stores can start selling it.

Supermallet 08-15-07 01:41 PM

It's street dated for the 21st, actually. But as I already said, I won't be reporting the store, just making a complaint to the manager about Greg.

Damn, let me know if that works.

one happy customer or $82.66 after tax if you want to get technical.

This was the Outer Loop TRU for those few Louisvillian's on here. :)

I called my GS after I picked up this deal. No dice. He said they aren't allowed until the 21st. He was shocked when I told him our local TRU was selling it. I'll try again later. :)

Did they have it out on the shelf, or did you have to ask for it?

Will do. I'll either go tomorrow after work or Friday before work.

Michael Corvin 08-15-07 01:56 PM

I had to ask for Bioshock. I already flipped Madden for a tiny profit on half.com.

I should probably try to pick both of them up after work today, I'll keep 'em both sealed just in case (or half.com Madden, Corvin style). Where is the 20% coupon at and do I need a coupon for the Madden/50% deal?

Michael Corvin 08-15-07 02:29 PM

the 20% coupon is on the front page of toysrus.com.

Liver&Onions 08-15-07 02:40 PM

My lame ass TRU is keeping the street date :(

PixyJunket 08-15-07 02:58 PM

I'll be on my way to try in an hour. I won't be too disappointed if I don't score, but I don't know if I'll pursue Bioshock until it hits Platinum Hits otherwise, so I've got my fingers crossed in that regard. Now if only I can survive the 100-105° heats.

Here are a few more cities for the TRU list:

Fort Wayne, Indiana
Rockville, Maryland (Probably SOLD OUT)
Phoenix, Arizona (76th Ave and Thomas)
Parma, Ohio (Going fast)
Las Vegas, Nevada (Maryland parkway / Tropicana)
Charleston, West Virginia
Erie, PA

You forgot Indianapolis. I posted this morning that I bought the game. It's the Castleton store.

Mine too. We ought to sue.

(Western & Belmont in Chicago, in case anybody was planning to go to that one).

Flay 08-15-07 03:34 PM

Jeepers, they are going for about $150 shipped on Ebay right now.

House 08-15-07 03:35 PM

Ok so my friend just called the Toys R us that I got mine from, and they got busted so they are no longer selling them. He said they told him they sold 4 copies. Thank God I made it there last night :)

dvd182 08-15-07 03:39 PM

My TRU is lame as well and won't break the date. Oh well, I can wait.

Incredible...$90 to play a week early? Does not compute.

Michael Corvin 08-15-07 03:59 PM

That's tempting, but I'll hang on to it. :)

CKMorpheus 08-15-07 04:51 PM

No dice at my TRU, they are putting it out on the 21st. I called the GameStop I pre-ordered the CE at and mentioned that Toys R Us' across the country are putting them out early he was very strict and said that he would need to take down information from me, that he was required to report this. I just hung up.
