The Official Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Thread
#376
Just started playing this last week, and I'm avoiding this thread. I think I'm about half-way through (just killed the 2nd Leviathan Seed on Elysia).
Anyway, when I fired it up last night, I had received a Friend Voucher. I don't know what those are, but noticed I could send a bunch out. So I did.
I suppose I could have looked in the manual, but I didn't. And I don't want to risk reading anything else on the web while I'm stuck at work so... can anyone give me a bit of a run-down of that? Oh, and if I'm one of your Wii friends and you have MP3, check to see if you got my vouchers/tokens (whatever they were called).

Now that I think of it, I think I got some other green ones. I got a "Shortcut Discovered" and a "Stylish Kill" that were green, iirc.
Killing bosses gives yellow, scanning enemies gives red, and logbook updates give blue.
It that the basic gist of it?

I sent out one to Eric D and am waiting for everyone else to add me. I have over a dozen to give out so if you guys could add me that'd be awesome.

I finished this game in just over 15 hours total with 100%. Terribly easy. Like everyone else, I had problems with Rundas, but once you figure out to go hyper only when his armor is ripped off... pretty easy. And still learning the controls by then. I never had a problem after that.
I actually enjoyed the item locations on the map. It's that way in the GBA games, so it makes sense it should be here too. Sure cut down on my time spent backtracking and listening. I can see how, for some, it would have been nice to know that's what you're about to activate in the Observatory.
Man, in comparison to Metroid Prime itself from MP1, the boss here was a total cakewalk. I was sort of disappointed in that battle.
I still enjoyed the game, but I feel like it's all been done before and better. I really enjoyed the control scheme and would love to tackle MP1&2 again that way. I guess you'd switch beams the same way you switch visors but with the +/hypermode button.
Also, I know I'm late to the game, but I sent out some friend vouchers to everyone who was black on my list. Check and send back, please!

I *think* you can have a friend that is just an email address, right? Try adding your own email address as a Wii Friend and sending the image to that.

That map checkmark feature would have been nice to know about. I did the same thing as you Groucho.

I stopped playing this game because I've been obsessed with RE4.
Going from killing crazed "realistic" looking villagers and sick creepy creatures and going back to Metroid's cartoony aliens with vague design details is tough to do.
I guess I'll get back to it one day...

I guess that I'm late to the party, but I would really like some friend vouchers so that I can score some ship bumper stickers. If anyone is feeling charitable, my console code is 1930 7200 1758 2726. I have 15 vouchers to give if anyone else needs some.

I don't think the visuals affect me so much...but I find RE4's controls much more intuitive for some reason.
Still...both are amazing games.

Yep, I've already started playing RE4 through a 2nd time and now that my weapons are powered up and I know where everything is I'm blazing through it.
But it's still fun as hell. I was kinda joking about the visuals, but I also agree that RE4's controls are great and I think it's what sets it a few steps ahead of Metroid 3.

I'm embarrassed to say how many times I've gone through RE4 on Wii...I believe it's in the teens, plus at least 3-4 times on the Cube. There's just something that feels "right" about it.
I should get some quality time in with Prime 3 tomorrow since I have the day off. I think I'm just about finished with SkyTown. It's a really polished game so far, but my lack of familiarity with FPS games extended the learning curve a bit for me. I did have a buddy over on Friday, and he played up to about a third of the way through Bryyo. He's used to FPS games being a PC guy, and he took to the controls like it was nothing once I put it on "advanced" for him. He was much smoother than me, and he almost never used the lock-on. It was very strange to see how different our styles were.

I also think RE4 being a 3rd Person instead of a FPS is another huge reason I like it over Metroid. I think -all- FPS should give a 3rd person option. I know of a few primarily 3rd person games that give FPS option so why not...

am i the only one hate jumping around in first person perspective mode? Bryyo mission is a major pain in the ass! First of all, i didn't even know you can jump that "far." It took me a while to realize that you need to jump to the other side... Okay, so you need to jump... Then it goes jumping and jumping like some kind of Mario game. Sigh, not too bad if the platforms are wide enough (and be still when transform to the ball) , but a major pain in the ass to fall down over and over. Worse part? Finally made it and can't save the game! I was pissed... I lost like two hours of playing time.

oh man, you mean there's more??? sigh... i don't mind the jumping, just that my head hurts after the constant bumpy motion from the jumping. I almost throw up last night after playing like two hours of Bryyo mission (mainly looking for a saving spot, but realized you can't go backward anymore and got stuck going forward). For god's sake, at least let you save the game more often (i don't care if it doesn't restore your energy or what not).

Yeah, you have a lot more platforming to do. I usually am pretty sensitive to getting motion sick with games but I had no trouble with this one. The last game I can remember that had me puking was TimeSplitters 2.

Aside from the jumping, i'm enjoying the game pretty much. Believe it not, this is the first Metro Prime game i actually played for more than 10 minutes (except MP Pinball on the DS, i played about 30 mins, it was easy to understand, hey it's pinballl). The GC version of MP (don't know the number), i touched it for about six minutes, i gave up on the tutorial. Never really played the NES version...

i replayed the Bryyo mission last night, after getting the missile and energy tank upgrade, i went back and saved the game. Call me chicken, but i can't play the game too long... Seriously, MP3 should have something like Zelda TP, the ugly looking duck that tell you it's okay to take a break (and save the game too)...
