EA defends "sluggish" PS3 game
Phil Elliott 11:09 (BST) 15/08/2007
Response to USA Today article on Xbox 360 Madden performance comparison
Electronic Arts has defended the performance of the PlayStation 3 version of its forthcoming Madden NFL 08 game.
The latest title in the massively popular sports franchise was described as "sluggish" on the platform, in comparison to the Xbox 360 version which moves "twice as fast."
A statement from the publisher pointed to the relative amount of development time that has so far been available, with the Xbox 360 launched so much earlier.
"In the case of the next-generation consoles, many publishers have been developing titles for the Xbox 360 for over three and a half years while everyone who publishes now for the PlayStation 3 with the exception of Sony has been developing for the PlayStation 3 for only a little over one full year.
"The differences in the overall knowledge of the hardware is vastly different for both consoles and, as is the case with newer technology, it is very difficult to get it right the first time."
The original review in USA Today stated that "On the surface, the releases on 360 and PlayStation 3 look identical."
"However, when you stack them head-to-head, it's clear which is better. Madden on 360 is fast and fluid, thanks to a sharp jump in frame rate that allows the game to move twice as fast."
"PS3 owners, unfortunately, are greeted with a Madden that is sluggish in comparison. Action stutters far too often, particularly on injuries, penalties and turnovers."
Madden NFL 08 was released yesterday in the US, and will be on shelves in the UK on August 24.

The sluggish comments aren't helping to convince me to run out and buy this. IGN gave the 360 version 8.7, PS3 7.7, and I'm sure that point difference is because of the varying framerates.

Do they release fixes for the PC version of this game?
I bought a PS3 version, but i'm tempted to take it back (its unopened) and get the PC version if it looks and plays like the 360 (plus allows bug fixes). Thoughts?

so does anyone want to setup our own tournament or season? I know they didnt include one, but i want to play online and would rather play with people on this board than a random ten year old who exploits the game.

It also doesn't help because sometimes there's a challenge and you lose a timeout because of that.
So once again, how can you see how many timeouts you have in game?

Does anyone know how to have the audibles list on the screen all the time? When i played the first couple of times, it was there, now it disappeared. I like knowing which audible is assigned to what button, makes it easier to pick when playing against a friend...

I gotta say that I agree with the guy complaining about the short passes. I don't know wtf was going on last night, but my QB (granted is was John Kitna) would throw the GD ball 2-3 yards short on EVERY crossing pattern. When I tried to lead the receiver, the ball went WAY over his head.... again, it was John Kitna, but come on.

Yeah maybe in real life the no huddle was a great strategy for the Bills, but in online play it's pure cheese dick. If a few Bills fans get pissed, it's worth it so hundreds of assholes can't ruin my online play. Honestly it has no place in the game other than late game situations.

Got it for 360 and I'm not impressed at all. Somehow the gameplay and graphics pale in comparison to NCAA '08, which might be my favorite sports game ever.
I find it absolutely ridiculous that I can't put who I want in on special teams aside from my 2 returners, kicker, and long-snapper. This feature has been gone since '06 along with the "Defensive Assignments" option and I see no good reason to not have either in the game.
EA Sports. It's NOT in the game anymore...

The false starting is ridiculous. It's a glitch, whether intentional or not.
