It's doing well, all around:

Using Metacritic:

Nintendo Power: 100
Game Trailers: 96
IGN: 95
1UP: 90

IGN has a 10min video review on their site.

Quack 08-27-07 10:01 AM

Anyone see what the VC games are yet today?

PixyJunket 08-27-07 10:02 AM

I'm going to cry if I can't get Metroid tonight. :(

I haven't seen a PR yet. Should know within an hour, one way or another.

Why should you? Doesn't it ship today and ends up in stores tomorrow and/or Wednesday?

Yeah, for Best Buy and such.. but I can usually get games on their "ship date" at GameStop. I suppose it's on a case by case basis, but I know for a fact that I got Metroid Prime 2 on Monday because I recall that Fry's had it on sale that week but I opted to pay the extra $10 to get it a day (or two) early.

CreatureX 08-27-07 10:58 AM

Great scores coming in for Metroid Prime 3. Here are some choice quotes from a few of the reviews:

IGN.com:

the new controls respond quicker and with more precision than any dual-analog-helmed FPS ever created
GameTrailers.com:

You'll never wanna play any shooter with dual analog sticks ever again.
1up.com:

Amazing as it is to say about a Wii game, Corruption contains some of the best visuals in gaming, period.
:D

Art direction over technical prowess!

pinata242 08-27-07 11:08 AM

I'm trying to read the Nintendo forums about the VC update today and all I've got so far is "3 games" and "Breath of Fire 2".

That place sucks so bad.

Edit:

Super Contra

Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Breath of Fire II

Very nice update!

darkside 08-27-07 11:10 AM

Breath of Fire II is pretty decent, but I have it on the GBA already. More RPGs is good though. Bring on Illusion of Gaia.

Didn't that come out already? It's the Contra for the SNES, hence "Super", right?

oooh. Super Contra and Ghouls n Ghosts. More games I used to be wicked good at but now just make me want to break stuff.

I've had some trouble with Super Metroid and that game is easy. I will not be downloading either one of these. My skills are gone for these types of games.

jdpatri 08-27-07 11:21 AM

Contra III was the SNES game that has already been released. Super Contra (or Super C) was a sequel on the NES.

See wiki for all you need to know about Contra!

I haven't started up with Super Metroid yet. I'm still trudging my way through Metroid... but I haven't had too many obstacles there other than my love/hate obsession with Mario Strikers that has taken up most of my free time.

I do know that I'll wait to download any more VCs until I've finished my Metroid runs.

I'm in the same boat with pretty everything you wrote. So many games, so little time.

I hate watching videos of people playing Metroid games, because they make insanely difficult things look easy. I can't even manage to get the timing down for regular bomb jumping and it turns out some people use horizontal bomb jumping to get to otherwise inaccessible locations.

I've had a lot of fun going through Super Metroid again. It's been ages since I've played it - I'd forgotten how many upgrades there are and how quickly you can get some of them. I think I've put in four hours and still have quite a ways to go.

If you are buying at Gamestop, be sure to use the 10% off coupon that expires on the 31st. From CAG:

Super Contra

Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Breath of Fire II

Very nice update!
Anyone tried Ghouls 'n Ghosts? I liked Splatterhouse
or should I get Super Contra (I'll have 600 points after that and could get TMNT for nes as well...)

Chris_D 08-27-07 11:44 AM

Ghouls 'n Ghosts is the Genesis version? I liked that better than the SNES one, although they are pretty different. Also, it's pretty much the same as the arcade from what I remember, so if you have the arcade version on a collection already, then it's not really worth it.

Mordred 08-27-07 11:55 AM

What accessories do you guys recommend? I know I need to pick up a 2nd nunchuck but I'm wondering if there's other must have items. Is the charge station a good purchase?

Mine is technically already paid for since I did the "Trade Two Get One" deal some time ago.. but I was going to pick up Blue Dragon this week as well. Is there a way to get one of these for a store near me? I'm not driving to Grapevine to save $6 and I know they'll nitpick if I bring that in (knowing my luck, at least).

They shouldn't complain if you try to use it at another store. I used the coupon at a store in Oregon without any issues.

Much like the Xbox 360 battery packs, it's probably better to just get a AA charger and a few sets of 2500 nimh batteries.

I wouldn't compare Ghouls n Ghosts to Splatterhouse... but if I had to pick one of GnG or Super C, I'd take Super C.

But then again, I may have just been grown tired of the G'nG series by the time I got to this entry. After my obsession with beating the NES Ghosts 'n Goblins (both times, stupid stupid stupid twist) I was burnt out.

I'm not sure if this is an actual question but, yes, according to the Wiki list of VC games, it is the Genesis version.

Mordred 08-27-07 04:00 PM

This may be a stupid question, but is getting an SD card for the wii normally needed?

Also, I just found out that the Opera browser is no longer free thanks to this thread. If these hadn't been impossible to find for the last 10 months, I'd have a browser now. Boo on you Nintendo! :)

Toad 08-27-07 04:06 PM

I don't need a SD card yet.

Jeremy517 08-27-07 04:12 PM

Even if you do decide to buy one, any brand will do. It doesn't have to be the overpriced Nintendo-brand card.

Yeah, I'd be generic all the way. Sounds like it isn't needed usually though. Thanks!

SoonerDoc 08-27-07 06:34 PM

here EB i preordered at and another store both said MP3 not available until tomorrow

EGM Rumor:

What does a successful Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition have Capcom considering?

Spoiler:
Something with a wolf and a paintbrush. :D2:

Supermallet 08-29-07 08:44 AM

The PS2 version of Okami actually works really well. While the paintbrush aspect just screams Wii, it's very well implemented on the PS2, and the graphics are so stylized that a jump to the Wii wouldn't make a difference graphically. So really, there'd have to be a load of excellent new content in order to make it a worthwhile repurchase. Of course, for anyone who never got it on the PS2, it would be a must have.

Groucho 08-29-07 08:46 AM

To be fair, the Gamecube version of RE4 worked really well too.

But I'd rather see a sequel than a port of Okami.

spainlinx0 08-29-07 08:48 AM

I never got it for the PS2, so I would be very excited for a Wii version.

Yes, but the PS2 version had good extra content, which was included with the Wii version. the PS2 had shitty graphics, but the Wii had the GC graphics, so not only did you get the better graphics, but you got the extra content AND the better controls. At the moment there's no word of extra content, and the graphics would offer no improvement. Plus, changing the controls of RE4 meant a fundamental change to the way the player interacted with the game. Converting the controls of Okami would make a superficial, albeit appropriate difference in the overall experience. Which is what led me to the statement that this would be a good purchase for those who did not get the PS2 version, but a straight port would not be a recommended buy for someone who already has the current release.

I'd love that, too, but with Clover disbanded and several of their top people now at other companies, I worry about any sequel being a cheap cash-in.

I have this on the PS2, but would gladly buy it again on the Wii. One of the best PS2 games out there.

steebo777 08-29-07 10:14 AM

I'd buy it on the Wii. I'm already considering buying it on the PS2 when I get time to play it.
