I remember renting and beating Adventure Island with my buddies one weekend... many, many, many moons ago!

Matt925 09-03-07 02:01 PM

omfg Landstalker. Just finished Shining Force. Perfect.

Michael Corvin 09-03-07 02:45 PM

Adventure Island  That's a blast from the past.

Jeremy517 09-03-07 03:31 PM

I still have my Adventure Island cart (And my AI 2, AI 3, and Super AI 2 carts). I love that game. Warning: It gets very hard in the later levels, especially if you die and lose your axe.

If you want any chance of beating the game:
Spoiler:
Get the hidden egg at the end of level one that contains the Hudson bee. It will allow you to continue. After you die, hold Up+A when pushing start.

madara 09-03-07 06:28 PM

Mother of Gaming Goodness, Landstalker!

I give up a decade of my lifespan to play a true sequel as good this gem again, enjoy!

I just purchased 'Carnival Games' for the Wii this weekend.

This game is my bitch. Pretty simple. Cheesy graphics, but the kids love it.

There are like 25 carnival games from shooting gallery, skee ball, ring toss, coin toss, test your strength, etc... as well as unlockable 'super games'. You win tickets to unlock clothes for your character. Standard fair.

You have numerous movements with just the Wiimote. A disc tossing motion, underhand / overhand throwing, holding the Wiimote like a football / dart, and the typical 'shake the shit out of the Wiimote until your arm falls off' (although I found that using the 'lasso method' over the head works just as well and saves your arm).

The BIG issue that I have, is that you don't have the option to select a left-handed style, so I had to really work on doing the disc motion with the right hand that set me back a bit of time.

I was also not thrilled w/ the limited options of character creation.

Pretty much, you repeatedly play the games to go from small prizes to the 'grand prize'.

I unlocked everything and have all the prizes ranging from small to grand and did it in a matter of hours.

Of course, there's the multi-player action so you can play with up to four people.

Was I happy I purchased it? For me, no. For the kids, yes.

Has anyone had the "Michael Jackson" Mii show up on their console yet? He's eerily accurate and creepy as hell.

How do you know if your own Mii has gone to another console? I have my main one set to "travel" and I was wondering if he's shown up anywhere.

I created a Transgender Mii but I'm not going to let him travel out of fear for "her" life. :(

I made one back in the day that was pretty good...skeletal and creepy...and he's roaming. I think I named him Jacko.

My Jack Sparrow and my Einstein are the two I'm proudest of though.

No. I had no idea there was a forum for uverse. I definitely need to check it out. I've been thrilled with everything but the quality of the HD service.

Not to sidetrack too much from Wii. I am freaking thrilled that Harvey Birdman is confirmed for the Wii in November. This is a must buy for me and I would have bought it on PS2. Thankfully I can enjoy its point and click goodness with the Wiimote. $10 extra bucks for the Wii version, but I will gladly pay it.

A new game from Vanillaware was just announced for Wii and it's looks a lot like Odin Sphere!!

It's called Oboro Muramasa Youtouden.

So I finally am to the point where I've given up on Nintendo coming up with a way to use their USB Wi-Fi connector under Vista. I guess I have no choice other than to get a router. What relatively cheap router do you all recommend. I will pretty much only be using the router for my Wii so compatability and ease of setting up are the most important things.

I've bought a $50 Linksys Wireless-G router when I got my Xbox 360 (and my HDTV.. Christ was that an expensive weekend), plus a $50 card for the PC. It worked with the Wii without any setup other than selecting the router and entering the password.

Buffalo routers work well with the Wii and DS as well.

There's always a deal to be had on a router if you look. Also, if you can hold out 2.5 more months, Black Friday is usually a good way to score one cheap.

I'm bringing these up to the new page! BUY THEM.

IGN have revealed some new monsters for the upcoming 'Godzilla: Unleashed' game.

Here's some news another Japan-only titles heading elsewhere on the VC. Also, if you read the comments, someone points out that the unreleased outside of Japan NES version of Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels was released in Australia. I'm pretty sure both are in the vain of Battle Lode Runner in that there was no localization work to be done, but it's still something!

Also, Octopuzzle, a puzzle game from the makers of Puyo Puyo (!!!) is coming to the US!

It's up to Bonk once again to thwart the plans of the relentless evil King Drool. There are seven rounds scattered throughout the Dinosaur Kingdom, each one filled with fun contraptions and comical enemies. Grab a Flower Copter or exchange 16 Smileys at the end of each round to play up to eight different bonus stages. Or you can change the size of Bonk by grabbing the new red or blue candy items. Depending on the situation, you can change your size to bonk your way through a dead end or to get a hard-to-reach item. And if that's not enough, you can grab a friend and put your heads together to defeat King Drool in the new two-player mode.

Anyone that plays Bonk's much know if this one is any good? I have the first Bonk and was thinking about d/ling Air Zonk but then this one came along.

$50 card? I assume this was some card that has nothing to do with the router??? I would imagine any necessary stuff would come with the router itself.

The router itself was $50, the $50 card was so I could go wireless with my PC.

There's also a USB adapter to enable a wired connection to the Wii.

I really enjoyed Odin Sphere. It was as much fun to look as it was to play. I was going to buy the game but I ended up ditching my PS3 and that game was one of the games I was sad I'd never play again. I now have new hope!

Giantrobo 09-06-07 03:58 AM

So in a week where I had my 2nd 360 go bad, my Wii decides it doesn't want to turn on. I tried the remote and the button on the console but nothing would take it out of stand by and power it up. Finally I had to unplug the power supply from the console and replug it then at that point it came on.

This is the 2nd time this has happened with my Wii and while it's certainly not a major deal, like the 360's flaws, it still makes one wonder what the fuck is up with this generation's gaming consoles. It's like they all have "issues" ranging from minor(wii not turning on) to major 360's RROD. I don't have a PS3 so I'm not aware of any issue(s?) with them, other than the price ;), but I'm sure they're there lurking somewhere.

Maybe these companies need to get better design and engineering folks.

EDIT:Then later, I put in Wii Play and I heard clicking then I got disc read error. I tried again and I heard the same clicking which sounded like something was trying to read the disc but it couldn't so it was repeating the movement over and over. I hit eject then reset and finally it worked. I hope this isn't something that's going to happen more often.

Geezus, still nothing major but is it me and bad luck with consoles?

chess 09-06-07 06:59 AM

Rumors are still circulating about Okami as well. I never did get that for PS2.

Robo, I've had the same thing happen with the power once or twice. I think it's a software issue with WiiConnect...so no big deal. I suspect they'll sort it out with an update directly.

Interesting comparison in graphics between Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3:

(I've posted this here as a general interest topic since it highlights what the Wii can do over and above the Gamecube)

Luckily most people aren't buying wiis for the upgraded graphics anyway. Those comparison screens don't show a lot extra to me, but I haven't seen the game in motion.

Me neither, though I think motion would be more telling. MP3 is supposed to be 60fps and the lighting is supposed to be better -- which is probably more noticeable in videos than stills.

chris_santucci 09-07-07 06:58 AM

Does anyone think Mario Party 8 will become a bargain priced "greatest hits" or remain remotely overpriced like the last seven even when the next installment arrives?

shumway 09-07-07 08:33 PM

overpriced.

You have two problems.

1) It takes forever for anything 1st party to go 'Greatest Hits/Gold Edition/Whatever.'
2) By the time it would be eligible for that program they will have already released MP 9 and maybe even MP 10.

Chris_D 09-08-07 09:50 AM

The other problem being that MP8 sucks..

I disagree... but hey, to each their own.

Chris_D 09-08-07 11:40 AM

I admit, it was my first in the series, but there have been some in the media who have played the series heavily (John Davidson from 1UP for example) who have been pretty negative on the 8th entry. Of course, different people, different experiences.

Sorry to hear that. I just sent in my Wii for repair this morning because the video card was dying. At least, that's the explanation I found online for all these weird dots starting to show up on my screen.

I've always been a big Nintendo fan, but I do feel the need to state that I've had my PS3 since February and it has performed flawlessly. With all the mistakes that Sony has made this generation, I'm at least happy that the machine seems to be solidly built. (Plus, all of the stories about the dying 360's helped me choose the PS3 as my HD console).

tonyc3742 09-08-07 01:10 PM

MP8 was my first in the series too. I liked/like it. I like the convenience of playing board games electronically.
Anubis2005X- that happened to me too, it was most visible on RE4. I sent in my Wii postpaid and got a replacement back in ten days, I think (it was over a holiday as well). They handled it well, though of course I'd prefer it not to break at all.
The sturdiness/reliability of this gen's "next gen" consoles is a little worrisome...the tech is getting better and more complex, and the devices are getting more like computers, which probably isn't helping.
