I don't know what the level cap is, but I'm pretty sure the main dungeon is only 30 floors though and you generally gain a level per floor. I forgot what level I was when I died on floor 28. I can check on my lunch break. If it follows the other Mystery Dungeon games, there's probably a monster 100 floor dungeon as a bonus.

I'm sure the manual explains it but basically I think you get a password, I enter that password and go down to the floor you died on and it gives me a password that you enter to revive yourself with all your items and experience. I think the three requests are per death maybe, so basically if somebody dies trying to save you, you can give out another two requests. The general idea is probably to try to get rescued if you have sweet items or if you just got a bad break (like you died and still had healing items, etc.) I think you can trade items and stuff too. I'll try to setup my DS Wi-Fi when I get home and give you my friend code. Yes, I've never gone online with my DS yet.

Awesome. I will have to try that sometime.

The Wi-Fi stuff can be neat. I would play the CCGs over WiFi some until all i ran into were cheaters.

The art style or the fact they don't credit Chunsoft on the cover? Not sure what the complaint is? They frequently give US versions inferior covers. Look at the recent horrible covers for the Kirby games.

It's the art (or lack of).

Kirby covers are generally identical to the Japanese covers except they just give Kirby angry eyes.

America, FUCK YEAH!

Is there a happier person than Kirby? Yet every DS cover he looks like he is out for vengeance or something. Terrible.

I definitely agree the Japanese cover art typically looks better and Shiren is a good example.

I never noticed since I don't really play any Kirby games (yet i love the character because of Smash Bros and the cartoon, go figure) but that's pretty funny to me.

Shameful. Just. Shameful.

I read a Q&A with Hudson a week or so ago, somebody asked about the cover art differences to Kororinpa and he flat out said that covers in Japan are considered artwork while covers in America are considered advertisements.

One of these things is not like the others:

It's weird for the Amazing Mirror that they swapped pink and red Kirbys.

Even angry Kirby looks adorable though

That is the weird point. Trying to make a pink creampuff a badass on the cover isn't fooling anyone. He is still a cute character. Not sure what demo they think buys Kirby games but they do pretty well in the US despite the angry eyes so I guess it doesn't matter.

I might buy a DS today. What are must have games? I know I want to get Sim City. Are the RPG's all turn based?

You may want to read reviews on Sim City Ds. The one time i tried to play it it hated it due to the resolution making it really difficult to pick the proper buildings and spaces with the stylus.

I've been playing some more Shiren. Note: Using a switch staff to try to steal from the shopkeeper gets your arse kicked.

I don't know, I think he looks cuter with angry eyes. Like a determined little guy against incredible odds. I think it evokes a sense of routing for the underdog rather then trying to make him look like a badass.

Awesome!

I did discover something else about trying to "cheat." I used the switch staff on the shopkeeper and he killed me. I just turned off the game and figured i'd pick up my save later (that character had some cool items for the beginning).

Yeah, doesn't work, it said the save was corrupted so it overwrote it.

Is there a storage facility in Bamboo Village that i am missing? I haven't seen a place to get a jar to teleport items to my storage and the only storage building i have seen is in the starting village.

Nah, there's only three warehouses and you have to "unlock" the third one in Cryptic Rock Valley (and it's small but I always keep a Plating Scroll there for what's in the next area). I had been working on making and storing some good stuff for a "power run" and I literally just beat it using good old strategy (and a little luck) with the shittiest of equipment. It really goes to show that these games are far more about smart item usage more than equipment and levels.

The music on floors 22-25 (or something in that range, basically the floors before "the trials") is amazing and it does a damn good job of creeping you out and tensing you up for what's coming up. Koichi Sugiyama is a genius.

I have yet to actually turn the volume up on the game. I frequently play the DS with no sound. I'll have to check it out tonight.

What was the Sleepless Armband btw? I see it was cursed?

The soundtrack is fantastic, very eastern orchestral.

There was nothing special about the armband, I had it on and it got cursed so I couldn't take it off (I had an Antidote Armband as well). I made it to like floor 22 with just a Hide Shield and finally found that Iron Shield.

Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer

It is a rogue-like game similar to the old Nethack ascii game on the PC.

I'm digging on it pretty hard right now. This run is going well - up to level 9 or 10 and have a Polearm +4 that has been plated.
