Spoiler:

With FFXII Revenant Wings coming out next month, anyone know how good the game is? It's been off my radar but I saw an ad in a recent magazine... all I need is another portable RPG, though.

There was a horror game coming out soon that is like silent hill. Does anybody know the name of it and how it is?
I don't think Revenant Wings has gotten good reviews unless I'm getting my games mixed up. I heard it deals with kids on hover board and wasn't very deep. |

Metacritic: 80% Gamerankings: 80% *edit - beat to the punch waiting on my connection. |
Yep yep that is the one. Looks like a winner to me. After I'm done with hotel dusk I might pick this up.

The 'Contra 4' official site is now live! :D
http://www.konami-data.com/officialsites/contra4/ Bill and Lance were called in once more to prove that even though old hostiles die hard-they still die. |
Just heard Dementium is like a first person shooter. Going have to strike it from my list. I hate FSP on consoles.

I'm almost done with the 3rd game. Nice to know the new one is coming so soon. That and Harvey Birdman in 2008. |

If I had more money, I'd own the DS version. I was looking at the documentation and The Complete Saga looks more solid than The Original Trilogy was. If I do get it, I'll post impressions as soon as I can. |

It's taking some used to as far as the controls go... I didn't play much of Metroid Prime Hunters, so FPS with a touch screen is a bit unwieldy at first. Still, once you get the hang of it, it's pretty responsive. I'm hoping to finish the game this weekend for a review write-up before next week's crush of releases hits. |
With the extra 20% when you trade-in on preorders at EB, I traded in Phantom Hourglass (haven't played it since I finished it) and using my EDGE card got another 10% and preordered Mario Party DS.
Since the kids are getting DSs for Christmas, all four of us can play off of one card. There's not much out about it... but none of the other MP games let me down. |
Here are some impressions-- as promised-- on the DS version of Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for the DS:
** The game plays quite well. It's arguably a bit easier than its console brethren, but that's not a bad thing since there's so much to do... even after your first playthrough of all six chapters. ** It's understandable, based on the hardware, but the animation is choppier on the DS (around 30fps) and the movie sequences are static with some movement, rather than the smooth-looking ones on consoles. ** The vehicle sequences are restricted to a top-down view, which isn't too bad. ** There are plenty of things to find here. Completing this game 100% will require multiple playthroughs for each level, using different characters. ** The audio is pretty impressive. This is a BUSY week, but I do have this game slated for review soon. |

I got two more DS games-- Contra 4 and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?-- and wanted to say a few words about both after spending some time with them (in-between Super Mario Galaxy sessions and while at my karaoke gig):
** Contra 4 is tough. I'm not talking mildly challenging here; I'm talking nail-your-ass-to-the-wall hard. It's a beautiful game, though, and easily pays tribute to the 8-bit and 16-bit Contra games that we remember and still adore. Even with 10 lives and playing on Easy, I couldn't make it to the 2nd stage boss. Wow. The music is directly influenced by Contra games past, and any fan of this franchise needs to buy this. Now. ** Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? If you leave this game on the shelf, then yes, you are. This game is slightly better than the DS version of Deal Or No Deal (at least the questions are randomized, unlike the case positions in DOND), but that's not saying much. You have unlimited time to look up answers to questions, the virtual models of the 5th graders and Jeff Foxworthy are atrocious, and there's no reason to play more than a few times-- not cool for $30. The full review will be up later today. |
