That game looks like a blast, only problem is that it is short and I'm guessing the replay value isn't too high.

Michael Corvin 10-15-07 12:53 PM

That's why I'm renting. :)

I did get it today. I'll post impressions when I get some time with it.

I'm looking forward to the FullMetal Alchemist trading card game. It got good previews on IGN as being a pretty deep strategic card battler.

Duck Amuck:

Graphics: Great. Simplistic and actually very true to the original animation. The mini-games are stylish and effective. It feels like you are in the cartoon.

Sound:
Great. The game is full voice and Daffy's voice is as accurate as the animation.

Mini-Games: Great. They are very simplistic in nature though. Somewhere between micro and mini-games, but very original and fit with the Looney Tunes IP. They didn't just shove Daffy into a bunch of irrelevant mini-games. They also make use of the DS quite effectively and aren't generic games shoehorned into stylus play. The mini-game where you close the DS made me realize how much I rely on the DS's low power mode. Twice I killed the battery on my DS by just shutting the lid forgetting that the feature is disabled in this game.

Replay Value: I haven't tried out MP but I can't imagine there being much to it. I've unlocked all but a couple of the mini-games in probably 2 hours worth of play. There are Tokens to collect(1 per mini-game) and if I knew what to look for from the beginning I'd have a lot more than the half I do. It adds a little replay value, but not much.

Overall:
Definite rental. Look at that in the "glass is half full" way. Definitely check out this game, it's just not worth spending much money on. The concept of turning the original cartoon(stark white background with just Daffy) and just pissing of Daffy was a brilliant idea, that has given us (well, at least, me) the best Looney Tunes game since the SNES days.

Even if you find yourself sick of mini-game collections, Duck Amuck is well worth spending a few hours with. The design, animation, voice-work, mini-games and humor are all top notch. It is especially funny & cool that Daffy is self aware that he is in the DS making references to the screens, power, user and such. It's just not a substantial game that will eat away a lot of your time. It's perfect if you need a game you can play in quick bursts though.

Thanks for the review. I'll pick it up when it hits the bargain bin or the next trade in deal.

Picked up my copy of the new Phoenix Wright with little Wright plush keychain. I'm hooked again. The gameplay is the same, but the script is once again hilarious. Can't wait till we get the Apollo Justice one made for the DS.

I also picked up Phoenix Wright 3 yesterday. Surprisingly, EB here in Canada has it for US pricing, and there is also a $5 off coupon. Came out to $24.99 plus tax, so I'm very happy with that.

US and Canadian pricing should be the same. The American Dollar has fallen so badly it is equal in value now.

The only thing is that most Canadian retailers still has the Canadian price above the US.

In regards to the DS, is been awhile since I played it or purchased a game since I'm very busy at work.

Spiderbite 10-27-07 10:21 AM

Just curious but why does this thread float while the other consoles have stickies?

Shouldn't this be a sticky as well?

GatorDeb 10-27-07 10:22 AM

The PSP and DS threads float because they hold that there's not enough traffic to make them stickies (and they can't sticky one without the other due to brand fairness).

xmiyux 10-27-07 10:28 AM

Anyone else playing the Fullmetal Alchemist Trading Card game on the DS? I'm kind of digging it right now.

That doesn't make much sense to me -- if a thread gets enough traffic to float to the top, it doesn't need to be a sticky. I would think all "One and only generic platform" threads would be sticky so that if Joe Schmoe buys a PS3 (or whatever) and comes here to post about it, he sees the sticky PS3 thread, even if nobody's posted in it a few days.

But what do I know -- I'm not a mod.

This is Part Seven(!) of a dedicated DS thread yet there is not enough traffic to make it a sticky?

Unfortunately astrochimp, my job is not conducive to that. However, I can't wait for the Christmas break!

Either the PSP or the DS thread get traffic now and then, but both of those separately don't get all that much traffic, and they BOTH need to get traffic to make sticky.

Also, the DS came out in 04, that's 7 threads in 3 years.
PSP - thread 3, came out in 04.

Wii - thread seven, came out 06
XBOX - thread eight, came out 05
PS3 - thread ten, came out 06

FYI, the PS3 isn't really on thread ten. L&O lost count and put X, not meaning 10. There are usually about 2 360 threads for every PS3 and 1 1/2 for every Wii one right now.

90% of the time that I do play the DS is at work during breaks. Heck I might not even take a break if I don't bring my DS. My finished game ratio for the DS is high because of this.

fumanstan 10-29-07 05:03 PM

The colors!

Any new news on that vocabulary game Ubisoft is making? It looked kind of fun.

Not really digging the gold but to each his own.
