In Mystery Dungeon, there's always a dozen ways to do everything. |

Went to Target today to go preorder the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games and get the booklets... apparently, they're coming out so soon that they stopped the preorders, so they just gave me the books. That should be a bit easier than Shiren, right Pixy? On a side note, since I picked up the 3rd Ace Phoenix game for 20 bucks, I finally went back to try and finish the first game. Almost there, too, but that's been consuming a bunch of my time. |

I have only seen meat for sale once and had one quest where a guy asked me to get him meat and the creature auto-dropped it when i killed him. Finally, i have a pickaxe that i have just had sitting in storage. What should i do with this thing? I guess i get confused because in Nethack i can see all the commands at my disposal and in this game i feel a little lost. Of course it might help if i actually looked at the manual. |

Also, there's really nothing in the manual or a command list that will help you much, for this game it's all about discovering what the item and monsters are capable of through experience.

Late to the party but I finished Phantom Hourglass over the weekend. Fucking great game. Probably my favorite Zelda since Ocarina.
Never figured out what to do with the Guard Notebook nor did I do anything with the dude longing for a trist with a mermaid. |
Here are some screenshots of Sigma Harmonics, a graphic adventure with RPG battles from Square-Enix.

Pixy, how are you getting this equipment leveled up so high? A series of runs or are you getting it leveled up in one run?

At first I would just bring +2 and +3 crap back to Mountaintop Town and use melding jars. When I started doing rescues I just kept the same Katana and Iron Shield and upgrading them as I went through blacksmiths and scrolls (plus melding jars, of course). The really clincher though, was finding a Strengthening Jar on a Final Puzzle rescue (I was looking for an Herb of Revival). Any sword, shield, staff or gitans you put in the jar increases in strength each floor you traverse. So putting a Katana and Cudgel in there quickly turned them into Katana +50 and Cudgel +30 after two deep Table Mountain rescues. NOW, since this jar is so awesome I don't want to break it, luckily there's a scroll that removes items from jars without breaking it. It's rare but it's a prime candidate for a Blank Scroll. I'm trying to find a Dragonward Shield before I run through Tainted Path (floors 31 through 99 of Table Mountain) at the moment. Of course, tomorrow will bring a (temporary) roadblock to my Shiren spelunking. |

Should we maybe have a dedicated thread for Shiren? Just a thought. :)

Sorry - I didn't want to be rude about it, but... all this roguelike talk is just way over my head, and there seemed to be enough discussion to warrant its own thread. That way you guys can talk about your insane Japanese games and I can stay in my comfort zone of stupid American crap.
Back on topic, anyone else enjoying the Ninja Gaiden DS game? I'm renting it and having a good time with it. The control system isn't perfect, but I'm glad they designed it with the DS's capabilities in mind. I'm also playing My Word Coach and Mr. Driller, both of which I picked up on the cheap. My Word Coach is pretty good, but I wish they had more game types. Still, it's a pretty fun way to increase your vocabulary. As for Mr. Driller, the visuals are quite a surprise (in a bad way) after playing the 360 Arcade version, but the core gameplay is exactly the same and it's a great game to play on the go, which is why I picked this version over the Arcade version. |

My one complaint is it makes you play several different gametypes in one day to get your daily points and many of the gametypes just kind of suck. It does amuse me though to play the game and just destroy it. Makes me feel like my liberal arts degree is doing me some good. |
