Re: Resident Evil 5

Completely contradicting my other post in this thread, I got the game at the prodding of a friend from TRU for (what I justified as) $40. Playing single player my complaints are still there, but co-op is a lot of fun. Not quite Resident Evil to me, but a fun game (co-op) still. If anyone sees me (Oz Rosenberg) on and wants to play, just send me a message. I'm working through Veteran now (I think we stopped on chapter 3), then on to Pro .

Re: Resident Evil 5

For those who have beat the game, I'm being really stingy with my money, and not upgrading my stuff in fear that there will be a reason to have my money saved up later in the game. Also, I haven't sold any of the treasures I've collected yet. As far as I can tell, you cannot combine treasures like in RE4. So should I just go ahead and upgrade my weapons now, and should I sell any treasures I get as soon as I get the chance?

Sell! Sell! Sell!

Buy! Buy! Buy!

You can't combine them and its always good to have fully upgraded weapons! Plus after you beat the game...any guy you completely upgraded can be used with unlimited ammo for future playthroughs.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I figured as much. When I played RE4, I barely upgraded my weapons, and ended up with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of pesetas after beating the game. Thanks for the info guys!

Re: Resident Evil 5

I totally caved and bought the game last weekend. I'm on chapter 5-3 and so far, it's been a lot of fun, MUCH moreso than the demo. Any idea what difficulty the demo was set to?

Getting Sheva to do what I want her to is annoying at times, but I've learned to work with her for the most part. If she has any handgun bullets at all, that's what she'll use up first, so I pretty much never let her have them unless my inventory's full. They should have made a way to manually switch her weapon for her when playing solo. Haven't taken the game online yet because I wanted to get the full 1-player experience first.

I still find the controls annoying, but I've gotten used to them. I really don't like the real-time inventory system though. It's also lame that it's 2009 and they're still using the "document" approach to telling much of the story/backstory. Hopefully they'll finally remedy this storytelling method with RE6.

Side note: Does anyone else think Chris's head is about 10% too small compared to the rest of him?

Here's an interesting guide I found about what it takes to get S ranks for each level.

Do you think the demo was too hard? Or too easy?

I'm new to RE games (kind of) and got the demo, but am on the fence on whether to buy the game or not. The demo kind of made me dizzy...

I thought the demo was too hard. The chainsaw guy and the executioner got me almost every time (I did manage to beat the executioner once though).

Thanks for this it's really helpful. My friend and I after beating it on normal are going through on amateur to collect more treasure, upgrade weapons to unlock more weapons/infinite ammo, and getting all of the BSAA emblems.

Re: Resident Evil 5

A helpful piece of information I read today (but haven't been able to verify yet): to get the unlockable that comes with finishing the game under 5 hours (in spoiler below), you apparently don't have to do this all in one continuous game. What the game does is total your record best times for each stage and if that total is below 5 hours you have access to that unlockable. So basically you can go back into chapter select - it shows your total time - and replay levels to shave the times down to get the total under 5 hours. The times still have to be in the same difficulty level, as there is a separate total for each difficulty setting.

The unlockable in question is
Spoiler:
the infinite rocket launcher.

I'm not sure about the Chainsaw guy because I havn't got there yet, but in the actual game you can just run around for a few minutes and a cutscene will end the battle with the Executioner.

Beat it! Fun game!

Most of the chainsaw guys I don't think you really have to deal with if you can avoid them for a while.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I was looking at the Leaderboards for main game times. Some of those times are insane! Even doing it in co-op instead of with AI (and I'm assuming infinite weapons, etc.) I can't even fathom how they get times like that. Last time I checked the record times per chapter on amateur (they don't individually list the subchapters) were:
Chapter 1 - 11'28"
Chapter 2 - 13'05"
Chapter 3 - 17'01"
Chapter 4 - 09'06"
Chapter 5 - 17'01"
Chapter 6 - 11'05"

I mean 11'05" for chapter 6 total? I can see running through 6-2 in 3 minutes (I did it under 5 in veteran and that was stopping to pick up two tresures), but 6-1 takes forever to run through even if you avoided enemies and 6-3 has a lot of points where you have to just sit and wait for gates to open.

The record time for all chapters is 1:19'10". I'm going to try and get under 2 hours (currently at 2:53'06" but many of my times weren't done as speed runs and I have a lot of room to improve on them).

How do you get video game motion sickness? Does your head start to hurt from the camera or something?

Re: Resident Evil 5

Yeah I've never been sick form playing a video game, and I'm on a 110" screen. That would suck to get that though, sorry to hear it.

You pretty much feel like you're stuck somewhere between a headache and throwing up. RE 5 doesn't bother me but many FPS do.

You speak the truth buddy, I used to get like this back in the N64 goldeneye game and missed out on those, but it seems to have been cured when I started playing Halo, and my love affair with FPS is still going strong. =)

Oh and I got this game upon a friend's cajoling, and him only charging me 30 bucks for it, oh man what a blast. True the controls can be better, but once you start playing around with it, you get used to it. We beat it in amateur/and normal. So now we're just treasure hunting while trying to beat it in Hard, and playing with a Desert Eagle point 50 that doesn't need reloading kicks all kinds of a**. Oh and speaking of that 3 letter word, man those bonus costumes for Sheva!!!! Those Japanese.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I just unlocked infinite rocket launcher and need two achievements. I need to beat one level on S, which shouldn't be tough, then I'll have all the figures. Then I just have the small task of Professional mode, then I'll have 100% on what has been an awesome game.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I'm having a blast playing speed runs right now. I love that you can simply replay chapters to improve your times. My total time on Amateur is just over 1:56, which was good for 374th worldwide two days ago (I've probably dropped considerably since then). It feels like a whole new game when you're gunning for the best time. I'm still baffled by some of the record times, though.

I ended doing the Gamestop deal and traded in Batman Lego and Soulcaliber 4 + $20. I can't wait to start playing tonight.

have you ever been motion sick before? feels like you are going to puke. very rarely do i get sick, as i can do cruises fine and do roller coasters and stuff with no issues. but for some reason, when i play FPS and games like RE i get sick. last game to happen to make me sick was GTA IV.

Wow I just played with my nephew tonight split-screen, and we had a great time. I loved fighting the chainsaw guy, lots of screaming and crying. I can't wait to play more tomorrow.
