My first RROD, it took about 3 weeks to get it done. Second time (video problem after one day recieved replacement), it took me a month to get it back after about 2 weeks of waiting for coffin. Now, third time - we'll see how it goes.

Nah, you're going to need a couple more words.
Picture this: "Hey guys, party at my place! I got the new _______ game." Everyone goes over, people are drinking, having a blast playing _______. 10 minutes in, RROD!"
I don't think that has anything to do with "patience."

If they fix it fine, I have no problem with that. But fix it right the first time. But when they send you a supposedly fixed replacement for the 2nd and 3rd time it becomes frustrating. This is especially true when you plan to play some online with your friends.

This is just a general rant but back in the days, tv's lasted for 10 - 15 years and consoles didn't break down. Today, you have to spend extra money for an extended warranty because laptops, 360's break less than a year after purchase. You might say that technology today is way more complex. Fair enough, but why release a product when you haven't tested it extensively.

I wanted and almost purchased one, and would have had it not been for this issue.

I happen to think you make a great point and I know poeple who're holding off on the 360 due to RROD and I know folks who bought one with full knowledge of the problems. I still say we may never really know if the 360 can outsell the wii because we've yet to get 360s without problems. Maybe when MS gets it shit together we'll start to see sales spikes but until that day....

I wanted to spend part of a small bonus on something fun for myself, and I knew that I wanted an XBOX 360 or PS3. I went into it with a completely open mind. Within an hour of doing some online research, I knew I didn't want to deal with the higher probability of a problem (or multiple problems) for the 360, so I bought the PS3. Sure, my PS3 might blow up today, and if it does I'll deal with the hassle of warranties and replacements, but there seems to be a much lower chance of that happening.
When I have the free time and want to read a book, or watch a movie, or take a nice long walk, I do so. I want a gaming system that I can play when I want. I figure that if I'm spending $400 or $500 on a luxury item, that's not too much to ask for. If that makes me impatient, then fine. My thought is that I don't want to need to be patient in this case.
I have no problem being patient when there's something beyond my control. (Hell, I deal with Miami traffic every day.) Not buying a 360 because I didn't want to wait for it to be replaced was something I could control.

BTW, in your limited amount of research you would have found out that the RROD has been nipped in the bud (finally) and on top of that the 'Falcon' chips that run quiter / cooler (even lesser chance of a problem) are already in stores.
Enjoy the PS3, I do, albeit a LOT less than the 360.

If you enjoy your 360 and don't care about the RROD issues that's great, it does seem like it has some fun games. My intention wasn't to be a fanboy or threadcrap ... just thought I'd chip in with the reasoning behind my choice since it seemed to fit the conversation. I'm not saying anybody else was wrong to get a 360. It just would've been the wrong choice for me.

They're sending replacements that are also defective. That's where I draw the line.

Well I got the Rings of Death for a second time last night. I had purchased a 360 a couple months after launch and 9 months later it died. So I sent it off and sold the refurb to a friend of mine and bought a new 360. This one lasted about a year. I'll probably do the same thing as last time but I'm gonna wait a while to purchase a new 360. At least I got alot of Halo 3 in before it's demise.

Two of my friends I play Halo with had their's go RROD over the weekend. Now I am out of teammates. That's pretty lame. I have a feeling it'll be a month at least with all the boxes going back due to overplay of Halo 3. This hardware problem is out of control. Mine is going strong though.

I couldn't get anywhere with Microsoft's phone support people, so now I'm sending in my 3rd 360.
The rep didn't even offer me anything (free game, some extra Live time, etc) when I mentioned that this was my 2nd broken replacement console. The Better Business Bureau has an online complaint form (https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/GetStarted.aspx), so I'll be filling it out today or tomorrow. I'd recommend that anyone else who has had similar problems and is unhappy with MS's response should do the same.
If this replacement console actually works, I'll be selling it ASAP since my console from Costco seems to be working fine and will be much easier to return if something happens to it down the line.

Yeah earlier in the thread I was wondering if there would be a spike in RROD's after Halo 3 hit.

My thoughts are, this situation has hurt them this generation but where it is really going to hit them is when they release their next console. Everyone will wait to buy the new "Xbox ?" to see how its going to run and will thus possibly kill the system before it is ever released. Microsoft will have to include a 3 year all encompassing warranty to get anyone to pick it up (or at least release Halo 4
).I sucked it up and bought a 360 for Halo3 but I waited until this time just because all of this trouble that was reported since it was released.

Well, after 3 weeks, 5 phone calls, and a talk with a supervisor, I finally got my shipping box. I put my 360 in it as soon as I got home and took it to the UPS store. Hopefully they'll be faster fixing it than they were sending me an empty box.

i'm still playing the patience game with the X360... i heard that the new bundles have the new chip, but MS won't slap a label saying they are new, because they want to move the older inventory (i.e. by telling people new improved models are available, the current outstanding X360s will be in trouble).
