That's what people are saying (not from Microsoft), they opened the XBox and noticed the difference from previous. They said there's a larger heatsink than old one.

90 days... wow. Mine took about 4 months to get another RROD - even I played it in 105 degree temperature last summer.

I got it free because of this last dead 260. Because it was my 2nd 360 to go tits-up, the guy offered me a choice of a few MS games. Viva Pinata, a game I tried on Demo but didn't really get into, was the only game I either didn't already have, or that wasn't a racing game. I don't like racing games. I just wonder what they'll offer me the next time my 360 dies.....

As far as the cards, each time they sent me a "new" 360 I got a 1 month Gold Live card so that's how I got 2 of them.

I'll have to look. I saw the link in the other 360 thread about how to look for the new parts through the vents. I just hate moving consoles once I set them up and I would never open one up out of fear of MS trying to weasel out of repairs. Either way I'm pretty sure my last refurb didn't have any new parts. Hmmph, less than 90 days indeed...

Yeah even here in California we've had some hot days this summer. I always play the 360 with a fan blowing on it but it still may have contributed to the RROD. Who knows....

I've asked this before but I wonder if the 360 failures rise sharply in the hot summer months?

When I first received my replaced 360, the video died on me within an hour. When I tried to "fix" it by taking the video plug off and re-plug in, the plastic thingy came out of it. I called them and explained the situation and they thinks I actually damaged it.

I just got mine back last week, It is the same unit(same SN) Same type DVD drive, but it is very loud!.....at first I thought it was the fan, but it is not, it is the drive. One thing is for sure though, I have been playing the Sh*& out of Halo 3 and my 360 is running very cool......I don't need the extra fan blowing on it anymore.....

Laters & good luck too all....

technically, it looks like you only have 1 LED on here, not the 3 which make up the famed RROD.

Yeah I only saw one red light. According to Wiki 1 quadrant lit is a "General Hardware Failure".

It's the angle and the flash. The other 2 red lights are there. Either way, I'm pissed.

Have any of you gone and bought a 360 to use "temporarily" while yours is out for repair/being replaced, and then just returned it when you get one back from MS? I'm thinking about doing that next time I send mine in, if the return policy of the store will allow it.

For those of you that had the RROD; had you tried a NYKO Intercooler like this?

I've been using one for quite a while.

When I tried to use it, 3 days later I got the first RROD. That fan doesn't really help cool down.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, my first replacement console from MS red-ringed as I was doing the initial setup. My second replacement arrived last week and seemed fine through setup. Then I popped in a game and saw all kinds of graphical glitches, similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nTC1RzcIy0

I contacted their tech support to request a refund for the cost of the system since I already bought a replacement console at Costco (for easy exchanging if/when it dies). They sent me a canned response telling me to run through some steps to see if it fixed the problem. I went through those steps yesterday, which didn't fix the problem, so I told them that in an email today. I'm curious to see how they respond. I intend to fight them on this since their quality control seems to be non-existent. It's the best next-gen system in my opinion, but they can't seem to send me a refurb that works, and that's inexcusable.

I almost got one early on but then I read the stories about it causing problems with the 360 like electrical current problems and burning the console. I think they may have "fixed" the latest ones but who knows. I still use my standing fan while the 360 is on and I gave my 360 more space for air to move just in case.

I have a friend who's heard my 360 plight and he thinks the power brick could also be contributing to the problems. He seems to feel that's been the one constant when the 2 previous units had problems. Who knows if there's anything to this.

Keep us up to date with your situation. It seems like they can't really pinpoint the problem and just blindly choosing a part to "fix".

When you go through the automated support website and start a repair ticket they send you a coffin box right? It just says my ticket is open, and there waiting for the unit at the service center.
