More so I notice Shane can cast dispersion on any 360 title, no matter how highly rated, eg. GOW, or Bioshock. I can't quote anything off hand, but I think he maybe made reference to how Mark Mcdonald (1up) wasn't the biggest fan of the game, or that the character designs weren't quite up to it. He may be clutching at straws, but he'll clutch at any straws he can find, where Microsoft is concerned, no doubt of it!
Funnily, I haven't heard him say much about Lair since EGM's negative review, but I'm still waiting to see how he'll spin it. Of course, having said all the above, I have always found him an entertaining addition to the 1up yours lineup, but that was previously balanced by Luke, and to a lesser extent John.. so with them leaving, I worry that the podcast will skew too much towards him, with not enough of a counter opinion. |

He's entertaining only when he has a foil. I am also looking forward to what spin he can put on Lair. Similarly how he will find a way to trash Halo 3(assuming it gets stellar reviews). I enjoy Jeff Green quite a bit, but I could care less about PC gaming. If he took up more console gaming, I'd like to see him in a permanent chair on 1upYours. He's very entertaining regardless. |
Shane is good, but he needs a balance on the show. Luke was that balance when he was there, but since he has left there is no one to keep Shane honest. I think they really need to add Mielke to the podcast as a balance to Shane. Shane makes good points at times, but needs someone to call him on his fanboyism when it goes to far. John was also the balance to Garnett and I have no idea how they fix that one, but Jeff Green would be my choice.
I don't want to see the 1UP Yours podcast devolve to the sad state of the EGM Live podcast. That one is still entertaining at times, but I skip through half of it every week. |
It's shallow, but outside of his blatant PS3 fanboyism, I really just don't like Shane's voice. He can't do anything about that, but when it comes to radio that can be a big deal. It grates.
Ever since Draven said Garnett takes the joke too far, I have been hyper aware of it. It's kind of funny how he latches on to other peoples bits. |

Too bad about Jon leaving, he was always my favorite person on the podcast. I agree with darkside, Jon balanced Garnett, much like Luke balanced Shane. It will be tough to find a replacement for him. I definitely think Jeff Green is the closest to filling that role, as the..... elder voice of reason? Okay, maybe that is taking his role a little too far. Regardless I think Jeff Green should be one of the replacements, I like his sense of humor, and he brings a PC voice to the podcast. |
Good news according to this weeks 1upyours podcast John is still going to do the podcast at least, also Mark MacDonald was given the official 4th seat.
|
I get their names confused, but I think I like Mark McDonald, if he is who I'm thinking of. Most of the replacement guys who have taken a chair since Luke left has been pretty decent actually.
I tried Achievement Junkies, thanks to this thread, and I am really enjoying it. Those two hosts have a really nice laid back dynamic. Going to add that to the rotation. I'm striving to get to enough podcasts to get me through most of my entire weekend. |

There is also a set of free community <A HREF="http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/08/24/552779.aspx" target="_new">gamer pics</A> up on the marketplace, including pics for Achievement_Junkie, Gamertag Radio, Uncle Gamer, and more. |
 I try and get enough to get me through 5 eight hour workdays. :)
Is Smodcast in your queue? |
Actually it was one I've been meaning to try, but I kept forgetting to go grab the RSS feed. So thanks for reminding me.
 And by weekend, I meant for the job I work Fri-Sun overnights. I'm not just chilling in the crib listening to podcasts. So I have 24 - 32 hours to fill myself. And oddly enough, I have enough stuff to listen to to fill that time, but now I'm trying to carve the fat from my playlist and replace that with more meat. Get rid of the shows I listen to just because it's better than nothing. |
Oh how the mighty have fallen. The Sept. 21st 1upyours podcast was nearly unlistenable.
John was MIA which left Shane to run free on his Sony fanboy tirades. I still don't think I've finished listening to it. :yack: He was in rare form during this one. This was the second week in a row where he nearly ruins the podcast. Garnett tried to keep him in check the week before to no avail. 1up just needs to give Shane his own PS3 podcast and get him the hell off the main podcast. Let him do his own thing. I think he likes to listen to himself speak more than anything. Cheapy D and Wombat have taken the top spot in my book with the CAGcast. Consistently entertaining with neither showing a blatant bias for any one system. Not to mention neither think they are high and mighty like the personalities infesting the 1up podcasts these days. |
Gamers with Jobs has actually been going from strength to strength lately. They had a great interview with Ken Levine (Bioshock) a couple of shows ago which is well worth a listen if you have any interest in his thoughts on the industry.
http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/34696 Regarding Shane, if you want to hear his ultimate idiocy, listen to him for about 10 minutes on 09/17/2007 | EGM LIVE* - Podcast, trying to argue that Streets of Rage 1 is a better game than Streets of Rage 2. It's pretty funny. |
I recently started listening to GWJ myself. Mostly because of the Levine interview. It's pretty good.

I'm such a dumbass...this thread's been around forever (apparently), and somehow, I've never noticed it.
Of course, I couldn't be bothered to search before starting another one. ;) Mods, please delete at your leisure. Here's a few I like... CAG: I like Cheapy D for some reason...he's just a funny dude. 1UP Yours: Seems to be popular, but Bettenhousen bugs me...stereotypically hardcore graphics whores EGM: Meh. Wiire: Straight up nerds...but awkwardly amusing...and I like that they discuss other consoles from the Wii's perspective Joystiq: Not bad...may have just been an off week. GameRadio: I love these guys...skepticism abounds with funny delivery...a real knack for noting stupid things about the industry Listening to hotspot right now...first time...so far, it's not bad. |

The GFW episode for 9/25 was great, I would highly reccomend it for even console gamers since they talked a lot about the Orange Box especially TF2 and Portal and had a good discussion (maybe just because I agreed with them) on cutscenes in games and game length. They also talked about Halo 3. Plus they had a whole separate podcast that was an hour and a half interview with the developer of Crysis. I've just started listening to Gamerswithjobs, as my latest addition to the podcasts at work. |
I quit listening a few weeks ago, but another annoying thing about Shane on the 1up podcasts is his constant "I just played the best game in history of video games, but I can't talk about it" crap.
I'm sure it was a PS3 game though. |

I really like the CAGcast and the Hotspot is pretty good. 1UP Yours is okay. The OXM one is okay, but kind of dry. I'm subscribed to the EGM one, but haven't actually listened to one yet. :) Also, I really like the Bungie one, but it is pretty sporatic. Not a regular release timeframe.
I'll have to check out GWJ and GameRadio. |

I was also surprised how much they slammed MGS3, especially the controls which they basically said were awful, yet they scored the game a 95%.

I've just started listening to Gamerswithjobs, as my latest addition to the podcasts at work. GFW is my favorite gaming podcast now by far, totally eclipsing 1upyours IMHO. The episode they had with the developer of Crysis was one of the best interview type shows I've ever heard with a person in the industry. Most of that was the guy from Crysis being incredibly open and honest, but it still happened on GFW. 1up yours? Yeah. I didn't hate the TGS show as much as others here, but there are definitely things about it that really grated on my nerves. Shane is a sony fanboy, that is inarguable, but what pissed me off more was Garnett acting above Shane's talk about Kingdom Hearts. As Shane rightly said, that is a huge franchise and worthy of being talked about. It seems like, and I could be wrong on this, that Garnett is trying to develop a "personality" like Luke, Shawn Elliot, or one of the more stand out guys on the network. It's hard to describe what I mean, but all of his arguing seems calculated to me -- which is comical to say because this is a podcast I'm talking about. Another thing that was really grating on my nerves was Garnett constantly bringing up Halo in regards to MGS's separate online package. I get what his argument was, but his mode of getting it across was really lackluster. But least I sound like I only listen to bitch about it, I still enjoy the show quite a bit. It's just not the solid "A" it used to be, now being more like a low "B", high "C" show. Bottom line, they shouldn't be able to run the show when John isn't on. The Hotspot and me have an rocky relationship. Sometimes I really like the show, sometimes I don't seem to, and then back to liking it again. They've seemed to get into a nice little groove as I've really been enjoying them lately. Some of the phone calls they've been playing recently have been comical. |

http://www.teamfremont.com/TFL.php I do also like Broadcastgamer. It's pretty laid back, but they talk a lot about console games, including rpgs, and they have an enjoyable segment called the backlog box, where they pull a random game out of their backlog (most of us have a pretty huge backlog) and play it for 2 hours that week. Then they give their insights the following week. It can be interesting to get some thoughts on an older game that maybe you never got round to back in the day. Also they have a Top 3 segment each week which is pretty fun. http://www.broadcastgamer.com/ Added Broadcast Gamer to my subscription as well. Still recommend GameRadio wholeheartedly. They pick a funny letter to read every week, and they are all funny. The letter two episodes back about one dude's experience with the PS3 was classic. http://www.hwhq.com/rss.xml |
