Listening to the Sidescrollers from ScrewAttack.com right now.

Frankly, they had me a screwattack...especially with the Metroid font. ;)

It's a good show so far.

Really sorry to say it but MC Wilson quit doing the BG podcast a couple of months back. You can listen to the old episodes but there won't be any new ones. It was a sad day for a lot of people, and it was in my top 3-4 as well. :(

Yeah...they wrapped up my first episode by saying it was their last...and after I'd enjoyed it quite a bit. Already unsubscribed. :(

On the upside, I just listened to Game Theory, and it was terrific! Very intelligent discussion on the industry with no bashing.

ds6161 10-09-07 10:01 AM

are there any podcasts that are at least 75% PSP?
I just picked up the PSP slim. I have not played a PC game in over a year or a PS2 game in over 3 months. So I don't really need console info.
Cag cast & CFW are way to blotted for me.

I do get The PSP show but I wich it was longer.

Did anyone else listen to 1upyours this week? It was awful, I'm not sure I can make it through the entire show. The quality of the show was really off it definitely needed to be reigned in, but Garnett was joining in the jokes rather than moderating. I can take some juvenile digressions, but this podcast was one giant tangent with none of the jokes actually hitting their mark. It almost sounded like they were standing around a keg rather than giving a podcast. Whenever John is off the show 1up yours turns immature really fast and spirals out of control.

I tried listening to GameRadio, it sounded like listening to a 1 hour message board rant. I'll try a few more episodes, but the first one I listened to turned me off.

I've also listened to some of the criterion games podcasts. I like hearing podcasts from the developers themselves, it's really interesting to hear them talk about their vision for the game. It really has gotten me excited for Burnout Paradise.

Chris_D 11-06-07 05:21 AM

You know the problem with 1UP yours was Seanbaby right. I mean, Crispin is pretty juvenile, but bearable normally. As it was, I listened to 30 seconds of this weeks episode, and as soon as Garnet introduced Seanbaby, boom, I hit the stop button. Glad to hear my decision was justified. I've heard and seen a bit of Seanbaby before on EGM live and the "Broken Pixels" show (which is often pretty funny), and he has to be the most despicable unfunny persons I've ever encountered in gaming media. And I've listened to tons of amateur gaming podcasts.

I really hope 1UP returns to normal next week. Anyway, I listened to the late release of the GFW podcast instead, and it was pretty entertaining, if mostly irrelevant to PC games.

xmiyux 11-06-07 05:55 AM

I'm the opposite. The 30 minutes i have listened to so far have had several laugh out loud moments. I think Seanbaby is really funny.

darkside 11-06-07 05:57 AM

If you involve Seanbaby the whole point is to be really juvenile. They rarely bring Seanbaby on 1UP or EGM so I find it funny. If they had him on every week it would get old quickly.

boredsilly 11-06-07 09:51 AM

I did have a hard time getting through this weeks 1up podcast myself. I only came back to it when there was nothing else on my mp3 player to listen to.

I actually liked Seanbaby on the EGM show, but with Garnett trying to be "cool" and seeming to almost be seeking Seanbaby's approval, it was pretty bad listening.

GFW is easily the most entertaining show on the 1up network.

Does anyone ever check out the 1up Show? I was playing around with scripts on my xbox media center, and I can stream the show so I checked it out. So is it a California thing to say "like" so much? I notice a lot of people on these podcasts and the show do it a lot. People whom I would otherwise think were pretty smart people, like, say, like, so often I like, think it might be something that is like in the water.

kakihara1 11-06-07 09:58 AM

I actually thought 1Up was really good this week, and yes I think Seanbaby is funny.

Michael Corvin 11-06-07 10:35 AM

 I'm listening now and it's, well, crap.

I agree, it was a good show. There were several parts where I found myself cracking up. They need to make shaunbaby a regular and quick.

UncleGramps 11-06-07 11:11 AM

Count me in as another fan of both Seanbaby and this week's 1Up Yours.

Michael Corvin 11-06-07 01:23 PM

He has his moments. Finally finished. The second half was a LOT better once they got to the news section and past all the bullshit "what you've been playing."

Chris_D 11-06-07 06:20 PM

Hmm, maybe I'll jump to the news section and check it out. I'm surprised to see so many SB fans here, but well I haven't really listened to tons of his stuff and obviously he must have fans otherwise he would have been axed long ago. Anyway, I still hope for a return to a more traditional cast, with Jeff Green say.

darkside 11-06-07 08:56 PM

What Seanbaby does well is review crappy games. His articles in EGM are usually very good and the Broken Pixel video podcasts are hilarious if you can deal with lots of gay jokes.

BTW, the current 1UP Show is great. Mario Galaxy and Rock Band look pretty awesome and Jeremy Parish has a pretty funny Mario Galaxy song.

SoonerDoc 11-06-07 11:47 PM

thought this week was terrible. typically i think seanbaby is pretty funny when he is on egm and has some balance, however as mentioned above the other three jackals were all doing the same thing, telling stupid jokes and trying to outdo each other....painful to listen to

I agree, I made it through the second half, and it was definitely better than the first half, still awful though. I really don't think SeanBaby alone was the problem, the problem was his presence made everyone else act like 10 year olds, trying to outdo each other with the jokes.

Michael Corvin 11-07-07 07:15 AM

Agreed SoonerDoc and msdmoney.

He could be a good fit(as evidenced by the second half), as long as John is there moderating. I also got a good laugh at Garnett dissing Major Nelson because he isn't a developer and wondering why would they bother talking to him. That was the pot calling the kettle black. Hey Garnett, why do people listen to you? You're a fucking nobody. At least the Major has a significant job position for one of the console makers. I guess realizing that they are both internet personalities that people like to listen to is beneath him.

I've been checking out Gamertag Radio and listening to a few episodes. They've landed some great interviews, which is why I'm listening. Without those, the show would be completely forgettable, except for the rap music in the middle of a game podcast. :wtf: The host needs some work and doesn't seem to have a firm grasp of the English language. It seems like the most used word in his vocabulary is "um." Then there is the frequent "let me axe you a question." It's called English buddy, take a class or two. It's ASK. Also in the one I'm listening to now regarding Condemned 2 to a developer, "How scary this game gonna be?" Oh well, the interviews are the show's saving grace, so I'll continue to listen and fast forward through the rap.

bbuckley23 11-09-07 03:21 PM

I just listened to my first three red lights podcast from ign.com. I liked it but the only reason i listened was because they were discussing Mass Effect

tonyc3742 11-09-07 04:52 PM

I've started listening to all the Gamercast Network podcasts except Podtacular (I like Halo, but I'm not *that* into it) and GamerTagRadio (for the same reasons as Michael Corvin, except I'm not hugely into the interviews).
The others are all great, although I'm not sure why there have been 2 "best of" clipshows out of 15 total episodes of SarcasticGamer.
I unsubbed from The Wiire. First, I'm not playing that much Wii anymore, second, I'm sick of hearing about Brawl.

Oh I forgot about that. That was comical because it seemed like he was trying to be controversial on purpose or something. I was incredibly amused by his disdain for Nelson, and then Seanbaby's quick rebuttal about why they should have him on the show which left Garnett cold.

I really wouldn't mind finding a few new game centric podcasts to try. In the comicbook podcast scene, there are quite a few homegrown podcast that are put together with a high level of entertainment and profesionalism (on par with any "official" shows I've listened too -- usually better), but whenever I step outside of a game podcast that isn't put together or affiliated with a major website, they all seem to be pretty bad. Good on those people for trying, and it probably is better than I could do, but it still doesn't change the face that I don't want to listen.

I've been trying to get into the IGN ones, but they haven't grabbed me quite yet. I love the names though. 3 Red Lights, Podcast Beyond and Wii-k in Review.

The podcast I really like is 1UPs Retronauts which had a couple of good recent episodes. It is very irregular though since Jeremy Parish apparently doesn't like doing it and it seems to not happen without him.

I don't think anyone can touch GFW. Shawn Elliot and Jeff Green are great on a podcast and this one has easily surpassed 1upyours as my favorite.

Chris_D 11-10-07 03:57 AM

The main beef I have with retronauts is they just sometimes don't know what the hell they're talking about. They usually are pretty ok with the Nintendo stuff from what I can tell, but their look back at the Sega Mastersystem and the C64 were horribly misinformative. I can understand if they necessarily didn't have first hand experience with these consoles (well the C64 was a computer) as a child, but a few hours research on wikipedia would have cleared up most of the factual errors I noticed. I figure that anytime I'm noticing tons of things they're either getting wrong or just don't know, then it's not good, since these guys are meant to be the professionals.

Anyway, Jeremy Parish just takes the whole humility / I don't want to be here act way too far. He should either quit the thing all together, or actually put in some effort doing preparation and research for the podcast. Just going on about how the podcast sux, or how no one cares about it is annoying, when with just a bit of effort I'm sure it could be much better.

Chris_D 11-10-07 06:40 AM

Actually I just realised what the problem is, for me, with Garnet, with this latest episode. I never really disliked him, even though he's pretty idiotic sometimes. It's a little bit like what others said, the others need to rein him in etc. But, before, you had John on the community section, and Luke on the news. With Luke gone, and John no longer doing community, then you have Garnet running and setting the pace for all of the show. That's too much Garnet.
