The Kent Brockman commentary was awesome (great references to lots of random things including, of all things, Chumawumba).
It was, however, pretty dang difficult which was the negative. I had to keep shooting him from the roof and than quickly glide down just a bit(as Bart) to get to the top. I played around as Homer but he didn't help at all. This mission was definitely a Bart mission. I had fun, but it was way too hard.
As is, still picking up the game. The cinematics were amazing (Simpsons movie HD quality...just great) and the actualy level and characters really look like The Simpsons. I just hope the game isn't as difficult as the demo.

It took me 33 minutes to beat that demo and the expected time is 4 minutes! It's not that it was hard it's that I don't like the way the game is set up, with Homer blowing up like a ball and rolling? What the hell?
The video at the end seemed to show the rest of the game was the same with using the characters in the same matter. I'll pass unless it turns out the demo showcased the worst level in the game.
On the other hand, I downloaded Bladestorm and thought that was pretty cool. I loved being able to lead a charge against an opposing army even though the game is very strategy based and not so fun-based.

Regarding PSOne emulation
"The PS3 has never been equipped with either the CPU or GPU that were used in the original PlayStation, and the backwards compatibility for PS one titles has therefore been made available through software emulation from the beginning. Therefore backwards compatibility for PS1 titles remains the same no matter how many times the model is changed."
Regarding PS2 emulation
"On the other hand, backwards compatibility for PS2 titles is largely made possible through the use of actual semiconductors, supported by the PS3 system software. The 20GB and 60GB PS3 models launched in Japan and the USA were equipped with both the PS2 Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesiser chips and we could therefore guarantee over 90% backwards compatibility for PS2 titles.
"The 60GB model launched in Europe was a new model (shared with the 80GB model launched subsequently in USA) which contains only a modified version of the Graphics Synthesiser chip from the PS2 and not the Emotion Engine chip. The European launch model therefore used a combination of software and the modified version of the PS2 Graphics Synthesiser chip to deliver backwards compatibility for PS2 titles. As a result the percentage of backwards compatible PS2 titles was slightly reduced.
"The 40GB model, to be launched in Europe on 10th October, is a new model and is not equipped with any of the semi conductors from the PS2, and backwards compatibility would therefore have to be achieved by software emulation alone. The sheer numbers of PS2 titles available, together with the increased complexity of using a software only solution for each and every title means that to ensure accurate software emulation for the majority would be technically challenging, time consuming and costly. As we have mentioned on several occasions, our engineering resources are now focused on developing new and innovative features and services for the PS3 and, as a result the 40GB model does not have backwards compatibility with PS2 titles.
"The current PS3 system software and future updates will continue to support backwards compatibility for the current 60GB and 80GB models.
"Keen gamers in Europe, for whom backwards compatibility is important, can still purchase the existing 60GB PS3 Starter Pack which contains an extra SIXAXIS controller, two first party titles and has extensive backwards compatibility with PS2 titles."

It's also heavily rumored that the 40GB hits here on Nov. 2 and is just as crippled as the Euro version. i.e. Zero back compat.

FYI - I saw a 60gb back in stock at my local Target. I can swing by there if anyone really, really wants one here at what appears to be then end of the line for an all-in-one Playstation solution.

So is that article stating that the higher end models will always have backwards compatibility, but the lower rung models won't?

Does anyone else here have problems with there PS3 turning on by itself? Several times now when it is in stand-by mode it turns on for no reason. It is not downloading an update or anything from the Playstation Store. It just turns itself on and runs. Any help or is my PS3 cursed? It is the 60 GB version.

I am confuse about this the european model has dropped all BC support, Yet the US version only dropped the PS2 BC support. One of these can't right.

Typical Sony faulty assumption, but it's out there AND we've already seen them cut features to cut their own costs. There's nothing wrong with that, but you can't expect the 80gb model to last forever...

I was eventually going to get a PS3 when the price was right. But I was going to replace my PS2, and now it looks as though that's not going to happen. I'm not going to fall for this "if you care about BC you better buy a unit now because once they're gone, that's that". I just won't get one.

The cool-looking Everyday Shooter is supposed to be available Thursday at the PSN Store for $10.

I sold off my PS3 because it had no games I wanted at this time and I figured later on I would buy another one and catch up on games I missed. Sadly I missed a number of games from the PS1 and PS2. I agree that I won't be forced by these constant changes and idiotic moves.

Sounds like the Dual Shock 3 should be out soon.

I wonder if only all new games that enable it will work with it or if a game like resistance which obviously needs rumble will have it enabled somehow. Game update?

I would have bought the new controller if they had switched the left analog with the d-pad. I was never a huge fan of rumble anyway so this doesn't interest me much.
