Does your display support HDCP over DVI?

Looks like I found the problem.

My DVI has extra pins, and according to monoprice is called "DVI-I Dual Link". All the HDMI-DVI cables at monoprice are like the one they shipped me, the one on the right. They sell the correct converter that I need which is on the left, just not a cable like that. So looks like I need a standard HDMI cable and a converter instead. Returning it would cost me more than the cable is worth and I can't get dick for it on ebay either as they apparently go for $1-$2.

Looks like Perry owes me $10

Anybody around here need an HDMI-DVI cable in the 10ft range?

Wow. Some bad luck with that one Michael. I did not know that they had different DVI connectors.

Lol, I was minutes away from ordering one of those cables only to realize I've got the same problem. If it's any consolation, thanks .

Sorry! I'm using the monoprice cable from my cable box (DVI) to my projector (HDMI) without any issues. Much higher quality that the component (no hum bar distortion, better blacks, etc).

I think the 60GB is still a better. $50 for wireless, card reader and 40GB more HDD space. Plus, you get the 5 free Blu-Ray discs (not sure if 20GB is eligible).

Sony's $399 40 GB PS3 confirmed by Best Buy?

Thanks to a helpful tipster, we have a couple of Best Buy documents showing a $399 Playstation 3 with 40GB disk and Spiderman 3 (yes, Blu-ray) bundle with an "In Stock Date" of October 28. However, the more important "Street Date" field is unfortunately empty at the moment. While the docs look legit and don't seem to be Photoshopped, they can still be faked easily enough. So we did a quick lookup on the UPC code and sure enough, while the details are masked, the manufacturer is listed as "Sony Computer Entertainment of America." Unfortunately, we don't see the new model CECHG01 listed anywhere in the docs. As such, let's be clear: this ain't official. Still, we'll be paying close attention on October 12th as will you we suspect.

The 40gig is all but confirmed at this point. Spiderman 3 comes out on 10/30 so I would imagine that would be the street date if it is bundled in. Good deal.

I might be in on a 50/50 deal for that.. (maybe).

I'll be throwing away the Spider-Men disc though.. ugh.

The question is what is being removed from the 40GB. I suspect it may have no backwards compatibility at all and maybe no wi-fi or card readers like the original 20GB.

I'll give you $5 for it. I don't really want to buy the movie (until they make a director's cut), but man do I love that Bruce Campbell cameo!

I don't think the Blu-ray thing is still valid after 9/30. I'll check and see...

edit : The old deal is dead. There's a new one, though with even better choices including The Prestige or Pirates Of The Caribbean : Curse of the Black Pearl on tier 1 and Superman in tier 2. Not surprisingly, no more Paramount choices.

Yeah, the new choices are a lot better. Oh well. I got in on the guaranteed EE system. that means more to me than some freebie movies.

I hope this means that a bunch of half-price copies of The Presitge blu-rays hit ebay in the coming months. That film is at the top of my most-wanted list. And I agree about the EE chip; glad I got one.

Amen to that. The Prestige is high on my list, so hopefully you are right. I doubt it though with Pirates being in the same group.

It'll have emulation BC just like the 80gig. The 20gig doesn't have wifi or a card reader. That was just in the 60.

I think that is what I said. As far as the emulation you would think so, but I'm still wondering what will make up the 100 dollar difference. I'm thinking they will cut something and it may just be the Wi-fi and card readers like the original 20GB.

You're right. I read your first post wrong. I'm curious about the price too. There has to be more of a difference than just the HDD size, especially since it now looks like the 40gig will have a movie packed in. No one would buy the 80gig if that were the case.

IGN gave Folklore a 9.0. I had a lot of fun with the demo, I might have to pick this one up when it comes down in price...

I think this is going to be my 3rd at the alleged B2G1 at TRU in 2 weeks. Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and Folklore sound good to me.

Got the adapter and standard HDMI cable in yesterday. Still a no-go with my TV. Damn. No upscaling for me.
