The game has been out for over a week, all the reviews are in, even an "expanded instructions manual" is just ridiculous.

I've finally found the broken part of Lair. I'm on the second to last level and I want to fucking launch the controller through the TV. The first 12 levels... no problem, other than the 180° turns I've had no issues with the controls(even targeting, which is also a big complaint). Level 13? A whole new fucking ballgame apparently. I've done this boss fight about 10 times now and I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

I have a question : if you leave the system on when you're not playing, is there some way to power down your controller automatically? I somehow drained my batteries in the course of the day which is pretty lame; I assumed they turned themselves off like the 360s but I guess not...

I thought that was added to the new 1.92 firmware. I'll try to find the setting.

I don't think the AUTO-OFF feature works....people have complained about this.

Is it an automatic setting or something you have to turn on in the settings?

Finished Lair on Saturday. The Level 13 boss was monumentally frustrating, but on the whole I think it is a decent game. The only issue I had with controls was the 180° turn. If that was mapped to a button, I think the game would get far less grief than it does. Every review/negative post I see usually refers to that specific mechanic. Worth a rental.

I've also spent some more time with Motorstorm. I like it. Still not as fun as Excite Truck, but I could see myself picking it up in the bargain bin.

Rumor!

$400 40GB PS3 with Spidey 3 Blu-ray pack-in?
Our mole tells all

By Ben Kuchera | Published: September 09, 2007 - 10:16PM CT

Our mole has a great track record: both the Xbox 360 HDMI story and the wired Xbox 360 Rock Band controllers have since been confirmed. Whoever our friendly inside source is, he's got some great contacts. Now he's ready to tell us what Sony's console pricing plans may soon look like. Here's how Sony's platform pricing will shape up by the holiday shopping season:

80GB PlayStation 3: $499.99

40GB PlayStation 3: $399.99

Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray movie pack in with one, or both

PlayStation 2: $99.99

The 80GB price drop isn't that shocking, but a new $400 40GB system would be huge news. Would people be willing to part with 40GB to save $100? I think so, and having a $400 PlayStation 3 option would be a great weapon this holiday season. If they get to show off the Blu-ray capabilities of the system with Spider-Man 3 bundled? That's a nice package.

The $99.99 PlayStation 2 would ensure that the venerable system will continue to sell well. This is rumor for now, but when Sony makes some announcements at the Tokyo Game Show, I would not be shocked if these were among them. You heard it here first.

So I guess both of those versions will not have the emotion engine for compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games? I am glad I will have the 60gb PS3 soon.

^ True dat, bluelite. Check this page out for all you're interested in: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

DQ8 has no issues on 60GB, and isn't coming up on a 80GB search... if that means anything, that can't be good.

GoW has no issues on 60GB but audio issues on the 80GB. You'd think they could work that out.

Just something I am glad I don't have to worry about.

Someone posted the same article in the HD forum. I may be ready to jump in and buy one at $399. Why would Sony introduce yet a fourth model after scrapping the 20gb and 60gb? Why not continue production on the 60gb without the chip, and just lower the price? Is the 20gb less in this rumored 40gb that much of a cost savings?

Soooo, should I wait to buy a PS3 or what? I haven't really kept up with what's going on with it.

If you care about backward compatibility: buy a 60 GB PS3 now.

If not, wait until the $399 PS3 hits.

I still think there are no games I really want for it. Ill probably get one after christmas however for Bluray viewing. Not excited at that prospect though-- I wish it had better games (exclusives).

For $400 the PS3 is definitely attractive against a $350 Premium 360.

Yep. Now it comes down to your vice of choice. Do you watch more movies or play more games? Which gets more of your time? Blu-ray vs. a killer game library.

But do those two really overlap? The people who watch more movies won't be looking at a 360 anyway, and the people who want more games will go to the 360 unless they have an irrational hatred of Microsoft. I still see the $350 360 as the better deal for gamers.

I own a 360, and agree that at this point in time, it's the way to go for games. If Sony does drop the PS3 to $399, I will definitely pick it up as a Blu-ray player first, but there will almost certainly be games that I want to play on it.

$399 might work for me too, I know I was looking for a 20GB briefly once the fire sale price was announced. I'm pretty sure the types of games that I like that are (barely) coming out for the 360 now are going to eventually shift to the Wii and PS3, so I know I'll have to get one eventually.

You're thinking of the 20GB.

It went like this - 20/60GB at launch. 20 dropped. 80 introduced. 60 dropped. 40 introduced.

I've read some experiences in the past wrt to wired vs wireless for the PS3. Anybody have any thoughts on which is preferable? I'll have a wireless bridge right there to use in a "wired" fashion if necessary.

What if the 60GB breaks down? Would they replace it with the same type with the Emotion engine or sooner or later you'll start getting back the emulated PS2? So is it really the Emotion engine until it breaks?

Also, any hope that the emulator can improve via software updates?
